to think a ‘standard’ doughnut contains jam?

If you were offered a doughnut without being told the type, what kind would you automatically think of?

I think jam is standard, dsis thinks a sugar ring doughnut.

Dh said a custard doughnut would come to mind first. Wtf?! I’m assuming he’s taking the piss Grin

*a strawberry filling.

In answer to the question, I’d say no filling for standard.

MissSusanSays · 29/09/2018 20:07

Jam. Always jam. And always raspberry.

Fucking Morrison’s need to stop putting strawberry jam in their donuts. The weirdos.

MissSusanSays · 29/09/2018 20:08

And custard is the devil’s work.

Atalune · 29/09/2018 20:08

Sainsbury’s do the best donuts.

But a regular donut is a ring donut with lots of sugar. Then you play the donut game Grin

CheeseGirl4 · 29/09/2018 20:09

Ring, although I would prefer jam. A ring doughnut is a bit joyless really as it's missing jam/custard/ a central core of doughnut.

ClinkyMonkey · 29/09/2018 20:13

Just to be confusing, in NI a ring doughnut is called a gravy ring. But I would still assume that this was what someone meant by a standard doughnut. Ring shaped. No jam. Loads of sugar.

ClinkyMonkey · 29/09/2018 20:13

Ah, see that's been mentioned.

Pinkprincess1978 · 29/09/2018 20:16

For me a jam doughnut springs to mind first but that said I do agree with those that say technically a doughnut is probably the ringed sugared kind..... but I need jam!

PinkBuffalo · 29/09/2018 20:19

I would automatically think a jam doughnut.
But I do love a custard doughnut!

LongDarkTeatime · 29/09/2018 20:22

Have you been listening to the Fortunately podcast OP 😁

TheMobileSiteMadeMeSignup · 29/09/2018 20:25

Sugar ring. Anything is a filling doughnut.

DuggeeHugs · 29/09/2018 20:25

I would expect a jam doughnut whilst hoping it was going to be a custard one

OatsBeansBarley · 29/09/2018 20:27

For me it's a ring doughnut. Sorry op.

BareBelliedSneetch · 29/09/2018 20:29

Ring doughnuts are utterly pointless, unless tiny, so fresh you can barely touch them and at the seaside with lots of cinnamon.

Proper doughnuts are jam filled ones.

BareBelliedSneetch · 29/09/2018 20:29

And now I really, really need a doughnut! (A jam one!)

Stupomax · 29/09/2018 20:30

Where are all the horrified MNers shouting about the incorrect vulgar American spelling of doughnut as donut?

I am disappointed.

(BTW my assumption would be that it is a ring donut from Dunkin.)

MamaRaisingBoys · 29/09/2018 20:31

No LongDarkTeatime have they been discussing doughnuts?

OP posts:
Stupomax · 29/09/2018 20:32

Glazed or maple glazed.

AdaColeman · 29/09/2018 20:39

I'd say a jam doughnut was the standard one, who could even be bothered eating a plain ring.

LongDarkTeatime · 29/09/2018 20:41

They offered Anneka Rice a mini choc doughnut and she said exactly what you said in the OP.
Great podcast by the way, can really recommend it.

mum11970 · 29/09/2018 20:43

Ring doughnut.

GreenthoughtInAGreenShade · 29/09/2018 20:43

Doesn’t the “nut” part of doughnut refer to the ring-shaped machinery part? (As in nut and bolt, but made of dough?)

MamaRaisingBoys · 29/09/2018 20:45

I’ve never listened to a podcast and been thinking of giving one a go, so that’s the one I’ll go for Smile thanks

Smishsmash · 29/09/2018 20:45

My favourite is a cream doughnut (fresh cream & jam), but a standard doughnut is a sugar O ring doughnut.

Racecardriver · 29/09/2018 20:46

A sugared/cinnamon sugared ring of deep fried dough.
