Making one tomorrow and won't be bothering with yorkshire puddings, don't care for them at all. I think they're the weakest part of the meal. My other half is aghast at this. wondering what everyone else's perfect Sunday dinner includes

Is having Yorkshire puddings with any roast meet a newish thing? I grew up in th ‘70’s and only ever had them with roast beef - at home or at relatives.

I like them but it feels odd having them with say chicken.

Also people abu for adding cauliflower cheese (with gravy). Wrong

Nooooo!

The combination of cheesy sauce and gravy together, laden on to a roast potato is just fab. So my dream roast goes:

Really good meat (beef, pork, lamb, chicken, in that order of preference)

Roast potatoes
Roast parsnips
A leafy green vegetable (savoy cabbage, curly kale or sprouts)
An orange vegetable (carrots, or swede mashed with lots of butter and black pepper)
Cauliflower cheese
Peas, for those who don't like any of the above
Lots of gravy (can't abide a dry dinner)

With beef: Yorkies and horseradish cream
With pork: Yorkies and apple sauce
With lamb: redcurrant jelly for me and freshly made mint sauce for DP
With chicken: bread sauce and cranberry sauce

I have no idea why we only have Yorkies with beef or pork. DP's family used to have them with every roast, but they were Aunt Bessie's, not home made.

I really fancy a roast dinner right now, after thinking about it.
