Making one tomorrow and won't be bothering with yorkshire puddings, don't care for them at all. I think they're the weakest part of the meal. My other half is aghast at this. wondering what everyone else's perfect Sunday dinner includes

OP posts:

Roast pork, tatties, Brussels, peas and carrots with stuffing and a yorkie,Grin lashings of homemade gravy and lots of crackling 😁

ledzepplintooasiseclectic · 29/09/2018 19:06

Ooh I love a roast but my favourite is roast chicken.

Roast potatoes cooked in goose fat
Home made bread sauce
Brussels
Carrots cooked in a frying pan with water spoon full sugar and salt and butter cooked until fluid disappears
Pigs in blankets
Parsnips partially boiled then roasted with a drizzle of honey
Gravy made from the juices of the chicken, some water from the Brussels,

Delicious.... as for Yorkshire’s I only have those with beef and use the Galton Black recipe which is brilliant

Oops forgot the stuffing with sausage meat and sage and onion!

FascinatingCarrot · 29/09/2018 19:10

Roast lamb, roast spuds. mashed spuds, carrot and swede, sprouts, honey parsnips, crispy stuffing and yorkshire pud.
Served with loads of proper oxo gravy.

And bread sauce.

Jb291 · 29/09/2018 19:12

I love roast dinners

Ideal is roast chicken or pheasant with bread sauce, chipolatas, gravy, Yorkshire puddings, goose fat roast potatoes, parsnips, carrots and green beans.

I've never had game chips. What are those ?

Jb291 · 29/09/2018 19:13

Oh forgot to add stuffing to the list. Either sausage meat stuffing or sage and onion.

HowlsMovingBungalow · 29/09/2018 19:14

Think game chips are thin sliced potatoes fried - like crisps?!

madeyemoodysmum · 29/09/2018 19:16

A amazing roast beef or Xmas dinner

Babybearsporij · 29/09/2018 19:28

Lamb shank or shoulder, mint sauce, mash, roasties, peas (mushy preferably), broccoli, cauliflower and gravy. Cauliflower cheese sometimes. Never Yorkshires.

Cblockbitch · 29/09/2018 19:35

beef, roast potatoes, roasted parsnips and carrots, roast onions, cauliflower and broccoli cheese, peas Yorkshire puddings and rich red wine beef gravy.

looks like I'm going shopping tomorrow! 😂

IncyWincyGrownUp · 29/09/2018 19:38

Beef that’s still pink, thick Yorkshire pudding (works best when done in a tray rather than as individual puds), roasties or mash, steamed carrots for me, green beans and broccoli added for the children, with all the gravy.

Alternatively: turkey and gammon, stuffing, pigs in blankets, mash, peas, carrots, and again - all the gravy. I sometimes make Yorkshire puddings with this too, but only if I’m skipping the stuffing.

I love roast lamb but I can’t seem to cook it ‘right’ for some reason. Because of this I rarely get to eat it, so never eat it, as it’s not usually very pleasant if I eat it when out for a meal. I’d love a decent lamb dinner.

Seniorcitizen1 · 29/09/2018 19:38

Frogs if you think AB’s YP’s are almost as good as homemade YP’s them you are making yours completely wrong. AB’s are disgusting

ilovepixie · 29/09/2018 19:42

Tryagaintomorrow · 29/09/2018 19:46

I’ve never particular cared for roasts but since in been pg I LOVE them.

Goose fat roast potatoes
Nice thick meaty gravy
Sausage meat stuffing
Roast carrots
Brocolli
Cauliflower cheese

I just want it all now!

Butterymuffin · 29/09/2018 19:47

Cauliflower cheese is a must. And don't bother pretending that plain cauliflower is good enough. It isn't.

BlueGlasses · 29/09/2018 19:59

OP maybe you've just not been eating the right Yorkshire pudding recipe; this one works every time
Oven to 200 to 210 degrees
Depending on how many you are feeding crack 2 or 3 (or 4!) eggs into a measuring jug. Check measurement on side (actual measurement is irrelevant as you are just looking for a marker).
Tip eggs into a bowl
Fill same jug with milk to same level as eggs
Tip milk into bowl
Wash out jug, dry thoroughly and put plain flour into jug to same level.
Tip into bowl, add salt and pepper
Mix with whisk or fork.
Cook in preheated goose fat in either one large pan or a 12 hole muffin tin for 25 mins.
You'll be peeling them off the top of your oven they'll rise so high
Can also make a huge batch in advance and freeze. Cook from defrost 5 mins, frozen a bit longer.
You're welcome Smile

Wow hard to choose! One of the best roasts I’ve ever had was at a pub outside Nottingham. Never seen so many vegetables! Roasties, roast parsnips, green beans, leeks in peppercorn sauce, cabbage with bacon, sprouts, carrots, peas, mashed swede, cauliflower cheese etc etc. Also Yorkshire’s, gravy, stuffing, pigs in blankets & all the accompaniments. Great choice of quality meats too. Again, I think Yorkshire’s are a major part of a decent roast & go with most meats. I bought sage & onion ones to have with chicken once.

Cblockbitch · 29/09/2018 20:26

@tigercub50 care to name the pub? I may or may not live in the area.... 😊

4yearsnosleep · 29/09/2018 20:27

Roast lamb, super crispy roasties, roasted parsnips with honey, boiled carrots, mint sauce & giant Yorkshire pud

ihatetosay · 29/09/2018 20:29

MEAT IS MURDER

tigercub50 · 29/09/2018 20:29

The Rancliffe Arms, Bunny 🙂

Scrowy · 29/09/2018 20:39

MEAT IS MURDER only if you are eating human.

Otherwise meat is tasty and non murdery.

Pinkprincess1978 · 29/09/2018 20:43

A Sunday roast isn't a roast without Yorkshire puddings! That said I don't eat them on Christmas Day as that is just wrong 😂

I am veggi so it's all about the veg for me, tomorrow we are having - mash and roast potatoes, carrots, broccoli, cabbage, green beans, puds and beef for the meat eaters and quorn for me.

Crumblevision · 29/09/2018 20:46

Moomin is vvvu and I think he/she knows this. Troll. Grin. I'm not sure a true m'netter would ever speak such nonsense about YP's.

AnnabelTheAntelope · 29/09/2018 20:48

MEAT IS MURDER

So have a nut roast?
