Oh, spider-X spray sounds promising.

Spider X
I discovered, via MN, last year.
I use it mainly as a pre-emptive measure. We have definitely seen a difference this year.

I have two cans - one on the top floor, and one on the ground floor. So it is always at hand, and I can't become 'trapped' without getting to it.

You can also use it to kill them, though it isn't totally instantaneous with larger ones. It works but takes a few seconds or so on them.

Frequency · 29/09/2018 14:54

Thank-you. I'm not frightened of them. I'm happy to scoop them up and relocate them to the wild garden but I would like my front room back. If I can convince DD it works, she might start sleeping in her bed again.

MissLadyM · 29/09/2018 15:03

I used to be terrified of them but one day I woke up and saw one on the floor and didn't give a shit! They don't bother me now! So strange!

Thatstheendofmytether · 29/09/2018 15:17

Nope sorry I had one bigger than that in my hall the other night, almost stepped on it! 😱

MynameisJune · 29/09/2018 15:25

Has a bigger one in the bathroom this morning. Scared the bloody daylights out of me.

Have put red raid all over the doors and windows which seems to be helping. And it kills them pretty quickly too. They can stay outside my house, but come inside and it’s war I’m afraid.

LondonLassInTheCountry · 01/10/2018 19:09

Sorry... But that isnt big

ButchyRestingFace · 01/10/2018 19:11

She's beautiful. 😍

MissionItsPossible · 01/10/2018 19:21

Oh for goodness sakes OP, that’s nothing 😂 I had my phone at arms length and ready to swipe back expecting something massive.

THIS is I came face to face with and had to get rid of as I didn’t want it in the same house as me. I made a thread about it at the time for I was that traumatised. I’m in the UK and a city and it should be illegal for things that size to exist!

It's teensy! I was expecting Shelob.

VanillaSugary · 02/10/2018 07:24

Is this better?

YABU, not worthy of the thread title! Wink

I'm not normally scared of spiders.

However, 2am one morning, I really, really needed the loo and wandered downstairs to go.

On pulling the light switch, I came across a behemoth with gigantic fangs. 😱

Cream coloured body so vast I could see the individual hairs without my glasses, long orange legs, brown thorax and HUGE black fangs.

It also disappeared under the bath so fast I could barely keep track of it.

After going, keeping a weather eye on the bath panel the entire time, I fired up the computer and Googled the description of my house guest.

Turns out, there's a spider which preys on woodlice.

Those gigantic fangs were for cracking through the hard carapace of the woodlouse.

It's also one of the few spiders which could sting humans and make someone allergic to spider venom extremely sick.

Google Woodlouse Spider if your hearts can stand it.

Yes. My house needed a lot of work to cure the damp.

Slugs and woodlice were common. 😳

I'm rather embarrassed that people down under and other hot countries can read this thread. They must think we're big ninnies.

teaandtoast · 02/10/2018 10:36

They probably can't hack rain though, Havainia, or Marmite.

MynameisJune · 02/10/2018 11:14

People down under can keep their spiders and their opinions. Horrid bloody beasties. That woodlouse thing posted about above would not be allowed to stay in my house!!

PhilomenaButterfly · 02/10/2018 11:22

The second one's mostly legs. If it's not a tarantula, I'm not worried. Actually, then it depends on the tarantula. They're still just house spiders Vanilla. They won't even bite you! Cultivate a habitat for harvestmen. They eat spiders.

PhilomenaButterfly · 02/10/2018 11:26

Harvestman

Aaaawww they're like kitten paws! 💜

Havaina · 02/10/2018 14:45

Oh God those paws are adorable! They would feel wonderfully soothing crawling up my back!

MrsRespoDad · 02/10/2018 17:23

I would like to refer you ladies to the spider willies what rub in your face at night when your washing is being darked on.

Asterado · 02/10/2018 17:25

I hate to break it to you but that’s tiny in comparison to some of the monsters I’ve seen in a certain very flat area of the UK....

PhilomenaButterfly · 02/10/2018 18:21

East Anglia?

IrisAnon · 02/10/2018 19:04

Can I draw your attention to the fangs on this beauty I found in the bath two days ago. Too big to flush down the plughole🙁
