Decent size, but not the biggest I've seen, sorry, could be a young one. (Maybe Vyvyan.)

In the last couple of years we had a big spider in the house. The cups we use to cover them to slide card under to transport were not big enough so we resorted to using a standard sized pint glass. Some of its legs still poked out from under that! It also managed to lift the glass and challenge dh to a boxing match.

I dread to see what we're going to find weight lifting in the spare room this year, they are rumoured to be bigger than previous ones but have only seen relatively small ones so far.

Coconutcreampie · 29/09/2018 12:28

Bit underwhelmed tbh op unless you actually just have a massive bath and taps that is skewing the perspective then I've definitely had bigger

donajimena · 29/09/2018 12:30

I'm a cleaner working in vacant properties between lets. I came across one so enormous I cleaned around it.

LordOfTheFleas · 29/09/2018 12:34

Meh. Came on here with interest to see the big spider but that's just normal.

Disappointed Sad

Creeper8 · 29/09/2018 12:42

cats dont stop spiders.. i wish thy would but they dont

partypresent · 29/09/2018 12:45

Oh my god. Its eyes, its eyes, look at its eyes.

Zoflorabore · 29/09/2018 12:45

Spiders are the only reason I will never go to Australia.
That and the 24 hours on a plane.

My 2 fears in one though I will fly 7 hours and under

Misses point of thread.

OlderThanAverageforMN · 29/09/2018 12:50

Definitely the baby, as it can easily get flushed down the plughole. The ones you have to be afraid of are the ones whose legs go beyond the circumference of the plughole and are strong enough to brace themselves so that they won't get sucked down when you turn the tap on. Also the ones that run at you when you approach with the hoover Shock

DisneyMice · 29/09/2018 12:50

Tis not that big.
Accidentally stood on a really big one with bare feet once. It was surprisingly cold.

Thisgirlcant · 29/09/2018 12:51

That's tiny! You need to help it out of the bath as they can't get out themselves.

FadedRed · 29/09/2018 12:55

what's the daddy like? Actually it's not the daddy you need to worry about, it's the mummy. Male spiders are usually smaller than the females. Grin
Sorry, Op, definitely not the biggest spider, a good size, but pretty average for this time of the year.

VanillaSugary · 29/09/2018 13:42

Surely male spiders are eaten by the female spiders Grin

NotANotMan · 29/09/2018 13:44

That is a very average sized house spider!

QueenieMum · 29/09/2018 13:55

My OH saw our cat playing with something outside the other night. It was dark and though she'd caught (yet another) shrew. It escaped and started crawling off slowly. He thought that was odd so he used the torch on his phone and it was a massive bloody spider! I hope it doesn't decide to come back!

sarcasticllama · 29/09/2018 13:55

Nah. I've seen 'em bigger.

We get the daddy-long-legs spiders in our house, and I've never seen one with such long legs as we had sitting on our coving the other week.

Maybugger · 29/09/2018 13:56

I had one run across the carpet faster than I've ever seen before. I had to put a Pyrex pudding bowl over it because a pint glass wasn't big enough
Two days later an even bigger one legged it up the curtains and DH caught it in a bucket. If I see a third one then the house gets nuked!
😱😱😱

MissDai5y · 29/09/2018 14:02

You've got no other option than to torch the place and find somewhere new.

I once had to stand in the rain for 20 minutes waiting for my partners dad to turn up and get rid of a similar beast that decided to block the kitchen door. Took me 10 minutes to pluck up the courage to run past it to get out of the house.

Cantaana · 29/09/2018 14:19

Our neighbours are having building work done so we've had SEVEN of the buggers over the last few weeks. My boss tells me they travel in pairs so I'm bloody on edge now.

I work in a wedding dress shop and they love it there. The other day one leapt off a curtain onto the back of a bride who was in her dress. So now I shake the curtains out every morning as well as the dresses.

Itsinthebox · 29/09/2018 14:24

Why can’t spiders get out of the bath?

Bit weird innit

Frequency · 29/09/2018 14:29

There was one of those in DD's bed a few days ago. She woke up screaming at 1:30am, properly screaming and hyper-ventilating. I couldn't see a spider. I stripped her bed bare, started re-making it and reassuring her it was a just dream, a giant house spider didn't wake her up by running across her face. Just as was straightening out her duvet, out it popped, running across her pillow. Cue more screaming. I caught it, chucked it out of the window and spent an hour convincing her to come back into her room. A minute after I finally managed it a second spider scuttled out of the corner and ran across her ceiling.

She lives in the front room now, with the spider-munching dog. She is not going back upstairs until the plug-in spider deterrent I ordered arrives.

ISaySteadyOn · 29/09/2018 14:32

The bath sides are too slippery. They can climb down but they can't climb back up.

Spiders in the bath are probably more scared than you. Also, spiders are good. Can you imagine a world without spiders? We'd be covered in minibeasts. I say this as someone who used to be scared of spiders.

Aragog · 29/09/2018 14:33

I had a huge one earlier this week. The Sider X spray dealt with it. As it was the first time Id seen one in that room this year I also did a preemptive spray round the room.

I have done pre-emptive spraying in the usual places earlier, especially he loft hatch) this spier season, and so far it appears to have made a huge difference. Last year we had them every other day or so it seems. This year, very limited amount (about 3 or 4 in total) and in rooms i didn't spray. I have since done those rooms too.

Frequency · 29/09/2018 14:36

Oh, spider-X spray sounds promising. DD honestly will go upstairs. She has slept on the sofa for a week now. It's lucky we have a nice big sofa.

Does it stop the spiders coming in? There is an abandoned garden next to ours so we get hundreds of the buggers. DD is convinced there is a spider nest in her cupboard.

VanillaSugary · 29/09/2018 14:41

We have thousands of daddy long legs too,and they keep laying babies.

How old is your daughter and does she know that spiders live everywhere, not just bedrooms Confused

Frequency · 29/09/2018 14:46

She's 11. The dog eats the downstairs spiders. We only have an upstairs bathroom. She races up (with the dog) and then stampedes back down. Toileting is the only thing she will go upstairs for. She convinced her sister to bring down a plastic storage box her clothes, books and a stuffed animal.
