It has always been my dream to visit america however i have never actually got round to it, a few months ago I booked for my bf and I to go to florida for a fortnight next year, the total cost of the holiday was just under 4 thousand including park tickets etc and the hotel is right at the entrance of universal which made it a little more expensive but the company i booked with lets you pay up in monthly direct debit so that made it affordable

last week i found out i'm pregnant and due 2 months before I go, when I told my mum I jokingly said "there goes Florida" and she said she would look after the baby to let us go

so, do I go or not?

Ginger1982

Sorry if I saw the obvious answer I would not have asked the question

Cancel.

I had a baby in April, so she was small during the good weather this summer. She was utterly miserable in the heat, we spent the summer indoors looking out. There's no way she would've been able for days out in Florida theme parks.

Cancel. It'll be so much less stressful to go in a few years when the baby is old enough to enjoy it.

Haahhpy · 29/09/2018 05:59

When the time comes you won't want to go, honestly. Lifelong dreams change in an insane when you have a baby. I think it would be possible to go, but I don't think you'd enjoy it. Wait a few years and take your little one! Watching them in the parks will be so much better than being there without them and missing them!

moredoll · 29/09/2018 06:09

You'll be knackered with a 2 month old baby so whether you leave it - I wouldn't - or take it, you won't enjoy the holiday. See if you can move the dates of the holiday forward and go for the baby's first birthday. You might only have to pay a fee.

flumpybear · 29/09/2018 06:10

You may well find your hormones are rife and you wouldn't leave your baby for a moment let alone two weeks, but you may not, hormones are a funny thing!

Personally I'd cancel, I wouldn't be carting a small baby to America at that age, I'd wait til they could also enjoy it plus you'll probably need a rest holiday rather than a busy holiday Wink

GinIsIn · 29/09/2018 06:10

It’s just not feasible. If you were sensible and too travel insurance, that may cover a cancellation.

If your baby is late, you could be talking about a 5-6 week old. They need you so much at that stage.

Also, what if your baby has any complications? What if you do? If the baby is late and you have to have a caesarean then you aren’t even supposed to exercise or drive at 6 weeks until you have the 6 week check - not very compatible with a long haul flight and then rollercoasters!

Charlie97 · 29/09/2018 06:12

Cancel the cheque the holiday!

You don't seem to have acknowledged that this has been said by almost 100% of PPs @swingonastar2!

Charlie97 · 29/09/2018 06:12

Should be cancel the cheque the holiday!!

Mmer · 29/09/2018 06:25

There is no way that you can go. Try to change the dates. Can you go earlier? Before the baby arrives?

Oysterbabe · 29/09/2018 06:35

No way.
I'd take the baby or not go. Have you already decided you won't breastfeed?

monkeysox · 29/09/2018 07:13

Take baby with you while still portable. Or ask parents to come too.

SuperSange · 29/09/2018 07:29

Can't quite believe you're considering leaving a two month old to go on holiday. That's appalling.

Lethaldrizzle · 29/09/2018 07:34

People travel with babies all the time

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 29/09/2018 07:37

I would try to delay and then take the baby. Or swap for an easier holiday.

MrsG010814 · 29/09/2018 07:40

I think if you have to ask the question your priorities are all wrong. Prioritising a holiday over your newborn baby is not OK. If holidays are so important to you maybe you should have thought about that before getting pregnant. Babies can be very hard work at that stage and should be with you. I don't think I'd leave my 3 year old for a 2 week holiday.

brokenharbour · 29/09/2018 07:49

I can see how this is difficult after spending so much money and how you'd be tempted to try to make it work somehow. But I suspect when the baby arrives the very last thing you will want to do is fly off to Florida without him or her. You don't know how you'll feel but I think best thing is to assume you won't want to go and try to rearrange now when it's easier and hopefully cheaper rather than trying to cancel after baby arrives. If you're paying by DD then presumably you've not parted with all the cash yet?

It's perfectly fine to choose not to breastfeed for whatever reason you want. But obviously if you are breastfeeding your mum can't do that for you.

dreamyflower · 29/09/2018 07:50

I would never leave my ds but my mum and dad looked after my baby nephew for two weeks (he was 3 months) whilst they went to Spain... so it does happen.

papayya · 29/09/2018 07:51

I think that right now you might consider leaving your baby but once their here you'll feel like no way you'll be able to. are you able to change the dates?

dreamyflower · 29/09/2018 07:52

While my brother and sister-in-law went to Spain

WerewolfNumber1 · 29/09/2018 07:52

Just cancel.

You could take the baby with you but:

  • You have no idea how you will feel after the delivery or whether there will be any complications.
  • The baby could arrive late and still be very very young.
  • The baby won’t have had their immunisations and would be exposed to all kinds of germs.
  • baby could have reflux or tongue tie or one of the other common issues that take a while to resolve and would make travelling a misery.

And there is no way that you will want to leave your baby behind for 2 weeks at that stage. If you are hoping to breastfeed then that would almost certainly be ruined by going away for 2 weeks so early. Also you just won’t want to, I couldn’t stand to be away from my first for more than ten minutes for the first few months - it’s a really powerful hormonal reaction that you jut can’t predict.

JagerPlease · 29/09/2018 07:53

Planning to take the baby would incur the potential stress of making sure you have a passport in time - we were able to get an appointment to register DS within a couple of days of birth and got the passport in plenty of time to fly at 3 months but if there's potential for needing to go at 6 weeks it could be tight.

Personally I would speak to insurance (or the company) to see if you can cancel/change dates.

AutumnGirl78 · 29/09/2018 07:54

Delay the holiday op

Hopefully delivery will be straight forward and you'll bounce back but I was having major surgery 2 week's after giving birth due to serious complications

Delay for 4/5 months babies are "easier" then
Take baby with you it's no cosy and the parks all have "baby swap" where you both queue as normal and then one goes on the ride and then you swap over to the side

Get fast track passes so your not waiting in queue for ages

MrsGB2225 · 29/09/2018 07:55

Speak to insurers and cancel or rearrange the holiday.

Popc0rn · 29/09/2018 08:08

Aw bless you, bad timing! I think two weeks after giving birth is a bit too soon: you don't know how you'll feel physically or emotionally afterwards yet. Personally I'd contact the company you booked with and explain and delay or cancel the holiday. Sorry.

merlotmummy14 · 29/09/2018 09:25

It's your choice but personally I'd take baby with you. When DD was 4 months I attended a summer school in another country for 10 days (hour and a half plane ride away) and I missed DD terribly but I needed the credits for university. Her DF took a week off work to look after her and my parents took Her for the remaining 3 days. When I arrived I had regrets that I didn't take her with me as the university had excellent childcare facilities and there were quite a few student parents with their babies walking around campus. Going to a place like Disney where you know there will be other parents with babies walking around will make you miss her something terrible and possibly trigger PND.
