It really did feel like a good old pile on which left me wondering if any of them had read the thread or just wanted a free pop at MN, which is their perogative but doesn't make for reasoned debate. I had never heard of SM before yesterday and clearly she was angry/upset..... but, again, a lesson in how these things get out of hand. I think she was wise to take it down...... and I am sure certain others will be pleased to see their "unfortunate" glimpses of honesty removed.

Mightymousie · 03/10/2018 09:35

I followed SM for quite a long time and a one point bought a jumper for a family member for Christmas. I unfollowed when she posted photos of her 2 boys starting a new school, the book bags were very easy to read and it’s a prep school not far from me with fees of £2650-5000 per term.
It’s the standard step, the instafame increases and the kids go private. They become something unrelatable. And speak to people in a certain way... like don’t buy high street.

fruitshot · 03/10/2018 09:40

@Mightymousie I think you've summed up my feelings.

I followed you because i could relate to you. You managed fame (good for you) but have sold your soul and your kids to the advertisers and I can no longer to relate to you, because I do see through your facade.

Neshoma · 03/10/2018 09:41

Mrs Meldrum has announced ANOTHER holiday. TCook I think, not Neilsens. Last one was June.

Prepare for
How I pack
What I pack for Poppy/Florrie/whatever her name is
My flight bag
His flight bag
Their flight bag
Blah Blah Blah

I'd be like, "I'm moving, haven't got time" shes "Yay, can't wait"

MrBull · 03/10/2018 10:26

Is it term-time one again?

They do need their holidays. They work so bloody hard producing digital content, don't you know? (now I sound like CC 😆!)

As long as it's disclosed if it's another freebie, not like last time....

To be fair to MoD as that’s who it was, I saw it. she might not have known the ins and outs of the thread @athomeinfrance.

fruitshot · 03/10/2018 11:24

@ivegotatheoryitcouldbebunnies1

I love your optimism.

AtHomeInFrance · 03/10/2018 11:30

...... then she shouldn't have been so ready to sneer like that!

stilldazed · 03/10/2018 11:38

Another freebee term time holiday for the Meldrums....Can they at least admit that it is payment for advertising.

Their kid is 7...is she aloud to miss school because she is being used by her parent to advertise (anyone see the Capri sun picture on Instagram Sad ) she is earing money for the family so they make allowances?

stilldazed · 03/10/2018 11:38

earning

MrBull · 03/10/2018 12:45

None of them read mumsnet because it's a cauldron of hate, supposedly. Believe that if you like, but that'll be their defence, "doh, we didn't actually read the thread". Although SM did say she read it (but claimed it was 300 comments when it was half that) so should have been a little bit more sensitive to the OP's stance, even if some of the comments rightly annoyed her.

Question: when the children are the ones being sponsored eg advertising products aimed at children that the parents couldn’t advertise themselves, do they get to keep the money? I might be behind the times but I thought there were strict rules about protecting the income of child actors, etc.

Also, I’m seeing a lot of comments on this thread about how middle class they all are. I get that they live in luxury compared to average families but I am very middle class and I wouldn’t dream of putting my DC on social media in exchange for free shit. It seems really tasteless.

Jackiebrambles · 03/10/2018 12:52

I infollowed SM ages ago for the similar reasons, I just couldn't relate to her any longer and it was all just a bit 'girl gang' (which is why I unfollowed loads of them!). But I like her sweatshirts and do own a couple (they are comfy and good quality).

I missed the comments as she'd deleted them by the time I checked, sounds like it was a very good move on her part if there was a lot of mumsnet vitriol.

LOL at the 'who actually uses forums' - what the actual fuck does she think the comments under her 'content' are?? Is she mistaking it for a whatsapp group of her personal friends? No - it's a forum of people, who don't know each other, talking.

Mightymousie · 03/10/2018 13:12

@Shampooeeee personally when I’ve referenced the ‘middle classness’ Of many of these mums it’s not suggesting in anyway all people perceived to be middle class would behave in the same way or use their children to make money. It’s geberally been to reference how unaware they are of their privileged position compared to many followers and other normal people. For example Ckennie Telford discussing the multimac seat that at £1500 was much cheaper than changing car, ignorant of the fact that many followers own cars that are not even close to the value of the multimac Grin as a follower I feel many of them have changed and lost touch, and some didn’t have it in the first place!

Mightymousie · 03/10/2018 13:13

*Clemmie...

Magair · 03/10/2018 13:17

CT had/is having some really desperately bad money troubles isn’t she?

MrBull · 03/10/2018 13:22

Incidentally, those Multi Mac seats have definitely been given out free to some of the big name bloggers. I've seen unmumsy mum declare theirs as a gift/ad.

The problem that instamums or similar influencers often become popular because they are so relatable to their audience. When they grow & are no longer relatable they can loose their USP.

Mightymousie · 03/10/2018 13:38

To be fair Clemmie Telford is one of the few I still follow as she’s very likeable.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 03/10/2018 13:47

This. @mightymousie has absolutely nailed it bang on.

sixnearlyseven · 03/10/2018 13:58

Aberdeen used to have a two week Oct break when I lived there so it may not be term time, they do holiday a lot though!

stilldazed · 03/10/2018 14:01

well I hope they don't take them out of school..just to make money off them.

The meldrums more that any other intagrammers seem to just use their kids to advertise any old shit...it really is sad to watch

oksanas · 03/10/2018 14:02

CT is one of the ones I've always followed and thought really had her head screwed on.

I noticed today there is another story asking for spa break recommendations...

EeebyMum · 03/10/2018 14:23

Are they in private school? The rules regarding term-time holidays is much more relaxed then for state schools.

MrBull · 03/10/2018 15:48

I'm not sure I get what CT's insta is about. I did follow her for a while but I didn't know if she was fashion, family, baby, general blogger or whatever. It felt like maybe she was one you had to have followed from the start to "get" where as others you can kind of dip right into.
