I may have even used one myself even though it's AWFUL! Can't we just say 'husband' 'partner' etc or is it a 'mumsnet identity thing'?

My favourite misunderstanding of a Mumsnet abbreviation was the poster who had thought PFB stood for Precious Fucking Baby

kezzy13 · 28/09/2018 13:53

DH = Dear Husband (in a happy marriage)
DH = dickhead in all other circumstances

Sisgal · 28/09/2018 13:57

@eggsurprise. There's always one who chooses to take offence and start with the patronising sarky comments Confused. Yawn

YoloSwaggins · 28/09/2018 13:59

Haha I hate them too and don't use them.

Do not understand when people saying "DNiece" or "Ddog". It's LONGER!

I can’t stand the Dear part either. I’ve never called him my dear husband in my life. I also hate using AF on the Conception board but it’s what people use.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 28/09/2018 14:10

The D just makes it stand out more that's all. Nobody means dear FGS!

tlove · 28/09/2018 14:12

@Kescilly What does AF mean??

OP posts:
GreatDuckCookery6211 · 28/09/2018 14:14

AF is Aunty Flo as in period.

tlove · 28/09/2018 14:15

@GreatDuckCookery Oh god that's AWFUL

OP posts:
GreatDuckCookery6211 · 28/09/2018 14:16

Yes it's grim!

sofato5miles · 28/09/2018 14:17

WTAF WWYD to save time?

Cornettoninja · 28/09/2018 14:18

Bfp and bfn took me ages to figure out (because I’m too lazy to look at the guide MN have).

I’m far to ingrained now and have had to stop myself at work using dil/sil etc in professional documents Blush

PhilomenaButterfly · 28/09/2018 14:18

YABU.

InspectorIkmen · 28/09/2018 14:20

Can anyone explain to me why some posters pop the 'D' in front of, say, dog or cat or hamster or whatever?
When I see someone making an otherwise interesting post use DDog I just up and leave the thread - can no longer take them at all seriously. DDog my arse! DCat ffs - what even is that?

StripySocksAndDocs · 28/09/2018 14:24

Don't pay the vast majority much heed. At times though it's a tad confusing DS used as sister. DF meaning father, friend or fiance.

Also things like Dcat or Ddog seem a tad pointless, considering it's increasing the number of characters typed.

I find 'yy' an odd one, I think it represents yes. But isn't exactly that much shorter (and a bit if a pain when there's autocorrect about). Unless it's 'yes, yes' to show a extra special agreement with something?

StripySocksAndDocs · 28/09/2018 14:26

Cross post with InspectorIkmen in the Dpets (😁)

MayFayner · 28/09/2018 14:29

It is read the fucking thread Grin

I don’t mind the abbreviations, I barely notice them. What does jar with me is the recent trend for saying DD4, DS3 etc - but the poster doesn’t mean their 4th DD or 3rd DS, they are talking about their 4yo DD or 3yo DS. That annoys me because it can throw a thread entirely out of context, especially on the parenting boards.

Sparklyfee · 28/09/2018 14:30

I used DH in a comment yesterday.

Had no idea why I'd even done it, I'd never call him dear or darling and he's not my bloody husband!

I've been conditioned by mumsnet

VioletCharlotte · 28/09/2018 14:30

Another one who thought it was Read The Fucking Thread Grin

Marie0 · 28/09/2018 14:33

Oh I want to know what a PITA is and a Disney dad please Smile

YoloSwaggins · 28/09/2018 14:33

PITA = pain in the arse Grin

Ellisandra · 28/09/2018 14:33

Absolutely RTFuckingThread!
And I also read STXBH as have bastard in, though I know it’s not.

I’m like abbreviations, but I’m totally with you on the “D” bit. Far too twee a prefix for me. And makes me Hmm when people use it in relationships board when talking about an absolute fucking shit of a husband. (though I understand it’s a default shorthand so I see why they do)

MaryBoBary · 28/09/2018 14:36

@MayFayner that one annoys me too

Marie0 · 28/09/2018 14:36

Thanks Yolo - still not sure what a Disney parent is tho lol
