Basically my mam called today & said "Oh poor sis, she has a doc appointment this am, she isn't well yadda yadda"

"Oh, wassup with her then?"

"The poor pet, she got all burnt in the sun"

"Did she have suncream/barrier on?"

"No, sure she didn't know she was going to get burned did she?"

Welllllll forgive me for not pouring with sympathy Surely she knew the sun was splitting the stones.

I then told mam I had no sympathy for her, we all knew what the weather was like on Saturday, she lay in the sun for 4 hours in the heat, it was self inflicted, like a hangover & I never have sympathy for anyone with a hangover

When I called her this evening I asked her why in the name of god she had no sunblock on... she said

"XXXXX said he would just be in town half an hour so I sat outside to wait on him... he was gone 3 hours"

So it was his fault then?

LL of course I would be sympathetic, but last year she got really badly burnt, blisters & everything, now I, for one, had thought she might have learnt her lesson! The thing is, I know she has a load of sunblock in her bathroom cabinet as I put it there when they moved house a couple of months ago!!

Jeez - how bad can sunburn be to go to the doctors? We've all done it at some point but have never been so bad as to go to doctors.

Think deep leather crinkly old shoe skin.

A little sun with a lot of fake works best.

octo, apparently it made her very drowsy & she almost fainted in mams house on Saturday evening.

I wouldn't even sit outside without the kids factor 50 on me, but then I tend to err on the side of caution a lot We are extremists

fireflyfairy2 · 11/06/2007 23:40

As someone whos mam has been recently diagnosed with skin cancer, no YANBU

Tell your sister to stop being a twit and put some suncream on!

madamez · 12/06/2007 00:43

From the perspective of a pale whitey thing whose idea of beachwear is a long-sleeved blouse -how on earth could this woman not feel the pain when the problem started? Is she especially dumb? Are you immigrants from somewhere that never gets any sunshine (like Norfolk?)

ZacharyQuack · 12/06/2007 07:02

YANBU.

Reminds me of a friend who many years ago fell asleep in the sun lying on her back with her arms over her head. Burnt armpits. Ouch.

belgo · 12/06/2007 07:14

I have to admit, I might have just a little bit of sympathy for her. But then I'm soft.

hercules1 · 12/06/2007 07:20

yanbu

potoroo · 12/06/2007 07:30

The first time I got burnt as an adult not only did my mother not have any sympathy but she actually told me off when she found out..."After all those years I looked after you and I never let you get burnt and now look what you've done!" etc etc

So YANBU

(But make sure she keeps an eye out for melanomas - even one bad burn like that can be enough... my sis and I are the only ones in our family who have not had skin cancers removed. One of my brothers was 18 when he had his first one taken off... )

lissie · 12/06/2007 07:34
