And watch fabulous Mumsnetter PosieParker?

Was Posie saying that a police officer with a PENIS (that's a MAN to simple folk like me) went to Court to be allowed to INTIMATELY search a WOMAN who'd been arrested? And Eamon was saying that's OK because the person with a penis considered themselves to be a woman?

That’s EXACTLY what was said. That is the end result of this ideology if people don’t want to think/look any deeper than feeling sorry for India.

when she's allowed to i.e. by a proper interviewer
MissionItsPossible · 28/09/2018 12:06

@Deadringer
She was very defensive but it was three against one and presumably India is a colleague of Ruth and Eamon so they were very much in her corner and made the interview all about her imo.

I can't remember the exact words but at one point Ruth said something about 'all women' and the guest, Posie, said "But you keep asking me questions specifically related to India".

AnnabelTheAntelope · 28/09/2018 12:07

And Eamon was saying that's OK because the person with a penis considered themselves to be a woman?

I really didn’t think he was saying that... I don’t know why I’m defending Eamonn bloody Holmes tbh, but I think he was doing what a lot of interviewers do which is trying to get a full explanation out of the interviewee.

You know (made up interview);

Interviewee: “I think milk products are disgusting and nobody should eat them”
Interviewer: “But we need the calcium from milk”
Interviewee then has the chance to make their point about how you can get calcium elsewhere and all the things wrong with the dairy industry.

PP didn’t explain anything very well. I think she was defensive and I understand why. But I think she was so focussed on being robust that she failed to make her points.

He didn't say it was ok but he said "but what if she feel she's a woman"? Confused

Deadringer · 28/09/2018 12:08

biology yes I meant disappointing that they didn't read out any calls from supportive feminists. It was all very one sided.

BiologyMatters · 28/09/2018 12:09

The end result is that if you object, you're a hateful bigot. Imagine turning up for your smear test having requested a woman, only to be presented with a male presenting as a woman. Would you submit to it so as to not be a bigot? Or would you rearrange at great inconvenience to yourself? What if you were a rape survivor? Or a woman of faith, or indeed just any woman who didn't want a male to carry out her smear test?

HurricaneFloss · 28/09/2018 12:13

I think he was doing what a lot of interviewers do which is trying to get a full explanation out of the interviewee

Then that's what he should, as a very experienced interviewer, have done.

TheDarkPassenger · 28/09/2018 12:17

It disgusts me that she is in anyway affiliated with mumsnet. I feel ashamed to admit I’m on here after watching that tbh

Who, Posie? Pretty sure she's been banned by MN, which says a lot. There's a big thread running in the feminism boards whinging at mods to bring her back.

Shampooeeee · 28/09/2018 12:47

Such a shame that they made it all about India's experience. It really was 3 against 1. Hopefully some viewers will take an interest and google one of the topics Posie mentioned.

For the benefit of those who aren't aware, this has already happened.

SquishySquirmy · 28/09/2018 12:59

I thought she did very well considering, but it was stacked against her. She can't win, to some extent; get riled up and she would be "hysterical" or "agressive". Remain calm and factual (as she did) and she's "lacking in empathy" and "cold."
Particularly difficult given that the direction of the discussion was being constantly turned to being about India personally. Therefore any criticism of the atmosphere around Trans issues, or discussion of conflicting rights can be twisted into a nasty, personal attack against one poor Transwoman. I think there were a lot of traps set which Posie (rather impressively) managed to avoid falling into.
But India herself is not the problem. The problem is with women being forced to accept any man as a woman, in every way, simply because they say so. The problem is with women being expected to shut up and put up in case (factual) statements and concerns hurt someone's feelings. The problem is with losing the language we need to discuss issues: How can we talk about (let alone address) sexism if we have to pretend the sexes doesn't exist?

Also loved that straight after that discussion, Eamonn seamlessly segued onto the next topic with a "joke" about how old Ruth was.... Hmm

Yup, society values women now as it never has before, feminism is redundant and we should all stop our nasty moaning and defer to the penis-people in all matters.

RepealtheGRA · 28/09/2018 13:00

This Morning is just disgusting sexism! The whole thing was shocking. No wonder they can’t tackle sexism if they won’t acknowledge sex.

Could you lay out how you think she was wrong?

Gersemi · 28/09/2018 13:04

Caught up now. Oh dear, what a train crash. Posie did not do herself or her cause any favours at all, she essentially came over as sneery and intolerant. Trying to blame the interviewers for that is just a cop-out.

ChilliJamandAvocado · 28/09/2018 13:11

Posie's poise, confidence, and articulacy in interviews is outstanding, but she needs proper media training in order to maintain the narrative. Yesterday's Sky interview with Dr Misogyny was a slamdunk, but TM was more nuanced and personalised with IW opposite.

heresyandwitchcraft · 28/09/2018 13:16

Posie said the truth. It's uncompromising, but it is an opinion backed by basic fact.
Because she said it in this way, people will start asking questions. They might discuss how they see the situation. Where do they draw the line? Is any man who says he is a woman allowed to perform intimate searches on women?
Posie Parker has every right to say what she did. You don't get anywhere with just being polite in this discussion. You still get branded a hateful bigot just for believing in textbook biology, referencing the dictionary, or speaking to women with concerns about negative impacts of these self-ID policies that are now playing out in real life. People being too afraid to say what they think, to question these ideas in any meaningful way, and prevented from wondering about consequences is what has gotten us into this whole mess.

ilovesooty · 28/09/2018 13:21

If a thread is going to be about trans issues or self ID I wish the OP would flag it in the thread title.

VerbeenaBeeks · 28/09/2018 13:29

Whinging? Asking is whinging?

Whinging, persistently asking in the massive form of a thread - potato, patato.
Way to ignore the rest of my comment though, if she's been banned there must have been a reason.

TerfedOff · 28/09/2018 13:36

Eamonn thinks it's fine for a woman - you, me, your teenage daughter, my mum - to have an intimate body search done by a man who says he's a woman.

Yuck. Did he really say that?

Don't watch This Morning tbh because it's shit. So didn't see this.

RepealtheGRA · 28/09/2018 13:45

I don’t usually watch this morning, because yes it’s shit. Advocating for people with penises AKA men to have the ‘right’ to strip search women was a new low even for them though.

And I remember the taking viagra live on air debacle.
