Just came across this statement in a FB post
“For the woman whose genetics will never allow her to look like the ones in the magazines.”
Basically a long list of self affirming statements re “For the woman.....” some were right on point but AIBU to want to tear a strip off the woman who posted it next time I see her. Unlikely that I will summon up the nerve.
I know many women whose genetics will never allow them to look like the ones in magazines but f*ck me they have achieved so much more than any airheads who photograph well.

Well she is obviously lacking grey matter because even the women in magazines don’t look like the women in magazines in real life.
I have witnessed people preparing themselves with make up for a make up free photo. So ridiculous.
All the vanity pouting gets on my tits too.
Smile ffs! When you pout you look like you are capturing a selfie of yourself whilst taking a shit!

JellyBears · 29/09/2018 08:09

All those types of post are shit anyway!

Hideandgo · 29/09/2018 08:13

You know those ‘airheads’ are just people too. Yes their job means they’re airbrushed and plastered in makeup within an inch of their lives but many of them will be perfectly intelligent, some educated, some exceptionally vulnerable and damaged. Some will be rape survivors and some will come for the most ordinary, stable families there is.

Please don’t call them airheads as if they are some kind of human vessel just there for decoration. They are people, earning a living.

Photographing well doesn’t make you an airhead Hmm what about Lily Cole, who has a double first from Cambridge? Or Karlie Kloss, who attends NYU, is a skilled computer programmer, and set up a scholarship programme for girls in computer science? Iman speaks five languages!

Your sentiment isn’t unreasonable - looks aren’t everything and shouldn’t be held up as the most important measure of a woman’s value. But it’s misogynistic and unfair to brand models, or any attractive women, ‘airheads’ simply because they photograph well.

ElainaElephant · 29/09/2018 09:04

I would rather have her on my Facebook than someone that calls people airheads just because they are photogenic Hmm

Notacluewhatthisis · 29/09/2018 09:08

I used to be a model. I also have a degree and have a career that needs me to use my brain. I don't think I am particularly gorgeous. I would say more different looking.

I fucking hate that people assume that because I like wearing dresses and like doing my make up, that I must be thick.

At least the woman who posted this on Facebook was making an attempt to make women feel better about themseleves. It might have been shit, but the intention was there.

Whereas you like putting women down. Wonder who feels like tearing a strip off you?
