Painkillers

I'm getting a cosmetic op next month.

It will hurt. I know this. It's my choice.

A friend has given me a prescribed pack of co codemol should I need them.

Now I know you should never take anyone else's antibiotics.

I'm not saying I will take these tablets and I k ow I shouldn't but why. What are the risks.

I know I won't get a doctors appointment
For painkillers. Not for something self inflicted, nor would I ask for one.

Co codamol are not antibiotics and you can get them from boots

itsbritneybiatches · 27/09/2018 21:14

They are prescribed though.

So they are just normal prescribed painkillers ?

itsbritneybiatches · 27/09/2018 21:16

Sorry posted too soon without reading my post properly. They say concodemol on the pack.

I meant to add
Etc, i know you should never take anyone else's anti biotics etc.

They are just stronger painkillers. I used to take them for migraines. Doctors prescribe them for all sorts of pain.

itsbritneybiatches · 27/09/2018 21:17

So I should be ok if I need them then? I.e like a solpadeine for bad pain?

OP posts:
itsbritneybiatches · 27/09/2018 21:18

So prescribed or not, they are the same you can but from boots or similar.

What dose are they if they are the 30/500 mg one's they should really be prescibed byba Dr if they are 8/500 than you can buy that dose over the counter

FrankiesKnuckle · 27/09/2018 21:19

If they're prescription only they are a higher dose than OTC
usually 30/500.

Just as long as you're ok with codeine based meds.

Would you not get post op analgesia from wherever you are having the procedure?

FromageRay · 27/09/2018 21:20

Are they 8/500 or 30/500? The former can be bought over the counter.

SilverHairedCat · 27/09/2018 21:20

What's the strength of the co-codamol tablets you have been given?

The strongest you can buy in a chemist are 8/500 meaning 8mg codeine and 500mg paracetamol in each one.

Prescription strength are usually 30/500, so 30mg codeine and 500mg paracetamol. Significantly stronger.

Larasshadow · 27/09/2018 21:20

Make sure you don't take them as well as paracetamol.

itsbritneybiatches · 27/09/2018 21:20

30/500 they are

OP posts:
lolaflores · 27/09/2018 21:20

They are a standard dosage. Are they 30mgs codeine and 500 paracetamol?
A surgeon would give them after any op. Usual advice is only use for 3 days.
Test run one just to see how you get on with it. Take 1 or half of one. On a fill stomach.
You might feel a bit out if it and you may not appreciate that
Is the surgery quite big or small?
What is your usual pain tolerance?
Codeine constipated as well.

QuestionableMouse · 27/09/2018 21:20

Surely the docs who are doing the op will prescribe medication as and if you need it.

You need to check before going ahead.

Co codamol is paracetamol and codine. It comes in various strengths.

FromageRay · 27/09/2018 21:21

Solphadeine just branded 8/500.

QuestionableMouse · 27/09/2018 21:22

@lolaflores standard dose is 8mg codiene 500 paracetamol. Anything over that is prescribed.

Jeippinghmip · 27/09/2018 21:22

The best pain relief OTC is Ibuprofen and paracetamol, taken together. You can also add in some codeine with the paracetamol, which is what co-codamol is. They come in different strengths. Codeine can make some people unwell. They can make you feel dizzy, nauseous and constipated. They are also addictive.

Jamiefraserskilt · 27/09/2018 21:23

The codeine may cause constipation. They make you drowsy and spaced out. Not really recommended for long term use due to their additive properties.

SabineUndine · 27/09/2018 21:23

Don't take them if you have asthma. They really trigger mine - it's the codeine.

peachgreen · 27/09/2018 21:24

Take the medication you're given after the op.

itsbritneybiatches · 27/09/2018 21:24

I'm getting breast implants.

I've wanted them for twenty years. One breast bigger than the other by a cup size.

I can only now afford them.

I'm 38 but I'm so excited to feel confident about my body.

A friend didn't use them and passed them to me. I'm just wary of taking anything not meant for me.

Which is prob the least of my worries getting foreign objects sewn into me!

OP posts:
itsbritneybiatches · 27/09/2018 21:25

So general consensus is take half. See how you feel. Should do no harm.

IWantMyHatBack · 27/09/2018 21:26

Solpadeine max is 12/500 and you can buy that OTC. Always found a couple of those were fairly effective (except for nerve pain/dental stuff). 2 x 30/500 tablets will knock you out.

Codeine is constipating too, so have some prunes at the ready Grin

nipersvest · 27/09/2018 21:26

I'm currently on prescription co-codemol (30/500) for an infected tooth, started taking 2 tablets at a time and they were just far too strong for me, too much brain fog! Am now taking 1 at a time, they've just got to get me to Wednesday till the tooth is extracted, I'm in agony!

Anyway, what I mean OP is, go easy with them, they're very strong.

missbrightside09 · 27/09/2018 21:26

I had the same op 6 weeks ago...tbh the pain was not that bad, more of an uncomfortable feeling, I was fine with standard ibuprofen or paracetamol. Good luck with your op.
