Painkillers

I'm getting a cosmetic op next month.

It will hurt. I know this. It's my choice.

A friend has given me a prescribed pack of co codemol should I need them.

Now I know you should never take anyone else's antibiotics.

I'm not saying I will take these tablets and I k ow I shouldn't but why. What are the risks.

I know I won't get a doctors appointment
For painkillers. Not for something self inflicted, nor would I ask for one.

I was prescribed the strongest cocodamol when I had shingles; they made me really sick. That was a miserable couple of days....

itsbritneybiatches · 27/09/2018 22:03

I will only take half of one. I will ask my surgeon about it. If I absolutely need to.

I'm really paranoid about taking
The right amount of lemsips 🤦🏽‍♀️

Osirus · 27/09/2018 22:05

Is your surgeon not going to prescribe you painkillers?!!

thenightsky · 27/09/2018 22:06

If they are Zapain they'll be great for post-op pain. I had them after my knee op for a day or two.

HoleyCoMoley · 27/09/2018 22:08

Why don't you just get the right dose, half a tablet isn't a real dose. That's only half a paracetamol. The surgeon may recommend something else. Good luck with the op.Flowers

SarahH12 · 27/09/2018 22:08

That's a good point @Knittedfairies about being sick. The first time I was prescribed them over 10 years ago was when I broke a bone. I gave up in the end as the nausea was much worse than the pain. It was only the 8/500 too but my body just wasn't used to them at all

itsbritneybiatches · 27/09/2018 22:08

It's funny though it's a real fifty fifty split.

I honestly won't take anything I'm not prescribed unless I'm in agony.

I'm quite good with pain management I think.

I didn't go the hospital till I thought I couldn't handle it with my labour. (Because my
Midwife advised if I could talk through the pain I didn't need to come in. I was
8cm dilated when I wentwas 8cm but I think that was fear more than anything).

itsbritneybiatches · 27/09/2018 22:09

@Osirus

I am
Sure they will but I've been given these as a "Just incase"

OP posts:
RosiePosies · 27/09/2018 22:09

100% take them with food OP - Zapain has given me some horrendous stomach ache in the past. Also drink lots of water and get some dulcolax in just in case.

itsbritneybiatches · 27/09/2018 22:10

I will take the painkillers In to show him, I'm not going to take anything on the sly.

NotMyNameButHereForever · 27/09/2018 22:13

Please google Breast Implant Illness (BII) before you proceed.

I'm not trying to change your mind but do want your consent (any woman's consent) to be informed; there are literally thousands of women who have believed breast augmentation to be a completely safe and have ended up desperately ill only discovering the cause years later (as they were assured getting implants is always safe, a statement that is just not true) and then spending thousands on explant and much else just to have a chance of recovering their health.

Watch Hannah Spearitt on This Morning discuss her illness, it's on Youtube. BII is very real and it is utterly life destroying.

itsbritneybiatches · 27/09/2018 22:14

Given what everyone has said I will show my
Surgeon and see what he says.

It's good to know that they won't kill me though so long as I am sensible.
And by that I mean I will take note of what o take during the day and if absolutely I need to I will only take them at bedtime

Ontheboardwalk · 27/09/2018 22:18

As other people have said, your surgeon will prescribe you the required painkillers, don’t be showing him class B prescription drugs your friend has given you, especially 30/500 they are pretty hardcore.

Ask Frank says

Supplying someone else, including your friends, can get you up to 14 years and an unlimited fine.

itsbritneybiatches · 27/09/2018 22:23

Right. Ok. Thank you. I wouldn't take them in with my friends name on the pack,
I won't take them in full stop.

Thank you though you are completely right I won't take them in at all. I didn't think of that at all.

Ffs at myself

OP posts:
Ontheboardwalk · 27/09/2018 22:26

And please go see your surgeon or GP if you are in pain after the op and the prescribed drugs don’t help. They are there to help you!

itsbritneybiatches · 27/09/2018 22:28

Thank you I am completely so fucking naive sometimes. It's amazing I've saved enough for this op.

I will be walking out with a tit on each ear at this rate

Ontheboardwalk · 27/09/2018 22:37

Good luck with your operation, come out feeling excited and confident about your body.

Do take the drugs your surgeon prescribes they know the score. I was on staggered doses of codeine, ibrufen and paracetamol throughout day - It was great

Again shout out if the painkillers aren’t working, especially as they will be for a short period of time post op recovery

pinksummer · 27/09/2018 22:40

I had implants and full uplift last year. I felt minimal pain, honestly...and I've had a c section and vbac.
I was prescribed strong pain relief but I took two doses and was so spaced out by it they went in the bin. I might have taken a few paracetamol the day after but nothing more.
Just take it easy lifting arms above your head, lift your children as little as possible. Let them come to you for a cuddle. I'm sure I was driving after a week or so.
Wear a soft crop top/sports bra for as long as possible all day and night (I was about 4 weeks).
Good luck!

iklboo · 27/09/2018 22:41

I once took a friend's dihydrocodeine by mistake (staying over, thought they were paracetamol). Jesus i flew high and far that night.

Nacreous · 27/09/2018 22:44

Don’t take illegally obtained drugs to your surgeon. Ask them to prescribe appropriate analgesics. If they don’t you’ll probably be okay taking that much codeine but I’d start with one 30/500 with one normal paracetamol. That way you have an amount only marginally more than Solphadeine Max. 60mg would leave me pretty off my head, so I wouldn’t be keen to take that much if I could avoid it.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 27/09/2018 22:47

I can take up to 60mg of codeine for back pain. I rarely take the full dose. If I am really suffering I will take the full dose shortly before bed so I am pain free to sleep but don’t notice the side effects.

missbrightside09 · 27/09/2018 22:47

@itsbritneybiatches
I didn't drive for the first week as that was what my surgeon advised.
The pain was manageable...it was more of an ache than anything else...and the swelling was uncomfortable. As other people have said don't lift anything and you should be fine. The best way I can describe it is if you breastfed then you just feel constantly full of milk for the first week or so without the relief of feeding...
I have a front fastening sports bra from marks and spencer as well as the full support one the surgeon recommended. For the first couple of weeks the full support one was better but I preferred the sports bra after most of the swelling had gone down.
Hope this helps.

Nacreous · 27/09/2018 22:48

Thinking about this more: you can also get nurofen plus (not sure if there’s a non branded version) which is also 12.8mg per tablet. So theoretically you could be taking 2x that plus 2x solfadeine max at the same time which would be 50mg codeine, without a prescription. Don’t think a pharmacy would sell you both at the same time though!

missbrightside09 · 27/09/2018 22:52

@itsbritneybiatches also buy a travel pillow..you have to sleep sitting up for a few weeks to help with the swelling and a travel pillow helps a little to keep you comfortable when propped up in bed!

Sulla · 27/09/2018 23:02

I've been prescribed Zapain 30/500 split after several operations. It had absolutely zero effect - no pain relief, sickness or diarrhea.

My doctor told me that approx a third of people don't respond to codeine (it is a weak opioid that has to be converted to a stronger opioid in the body and some people lack the receptors). There is no way of testing which people are affected.

I am now prescribed tramadol instead, although I don't find that particularly effective either.
