Painkillers

I'm getting a cosmetic op next month.

It will hurt. I know this. It's my choice.

A friend has given me a prescribed pack of co codemol should I need them.

Now I know you should never take anyone else's antibiotics.

I'm not saying I will take these tablets and I k ow I shouldn't but why. What are the risks.

I know I won't get a doctors appointment
For painkillers. Not for something self inflicted, nor would I ask for one.

Wow I'm overwhelmed by the advice

Thanks ladies Grin

I am so excited.

The pain killer advice has been super useful.
Thank you again.

I'm so excited to have actual boobs.

And to have them them the same size. This is like a 20 dream for me

My understanding is that there are different ways to insert a breast implant. One way is sitting the implant on top of the pectoral muscle which is reasonably comfortable post op. The second is to separate the pectoral muscles from the chest wall and place the implant beneath the muscle. This is far more painful but produces a more natural effect in the long run.

Apologies if I have interpreted this wrongly. A friend has the second procedure and was housebound for over a week and looked as if she’d been kicked by a horse- that is NOT to say it always happens. No way was this a ‘lunchtime ‘ procedure.

She 100% needed full strength cocodamol and ibuprofen.

GoatYoga · 27/09/2018 23:11

The advice here is dreadful - please speak to you surgeon and use what he advises. Sharing prescribed prescription only medicines is never recommended.

SarahH12 · 27/09/2018 23:13

I really don't think your friend would actually get in trouble. It's not like you'd tell your surgeon who gave them to you. But definitely don't mention it to him. Just make sure somebody knows just in case you end up in A&E unconscious and they need to give you drugs. I know that sounds melodramatic and highly unlikely you'd end up in A&E afterwards but I think that's the biggest concern really with unprescribed drugs. But as long as somebody knows, you'll be fine.

I know it's not really the point but the only way I've managed to get the GP to prescribe me cocodamol in the past was because I said I took a friends and it helped. Same with my anti-depressants. And yes I know, it's really not good to do that. But my point is unless you go publicly stating who gave them to you, it's unlikely they'd pursue it.

GoatYoga · 27/09/2018 23:17

Please don’t do as SarahH12 advises.

SarahH12 - What drugs do you think they might need to give you in A&E? Why would the OP end up unconscious?

Ontheboardwalk · 27/09/2018 23:19

Happy Boob day itsbritney you have to keep us updated on how you are getting on

NotMyNameButHereForever · 27/09/2018 23:28

Breast Implant Info site for you OP

'What Questions Should I Ask Before Breast Augmentation'

Vis meds, if you are proceeding with augmentation it's faintly alarming that no-one has talked you through meds to the extent that you are/were thinking of using a friends meds (let alone thinking you might not need pain meds)- are you seeing a Plastic Surgeon you picked from BAAP or are you going with one of the advertising clinics like Transform?

After any surgical procedure you will be discharged with the meds you need (TTOs), has no-one talked to you about the procedure and aftercare?

And again, I urge you to educate yourself re BII so at least if you start to get sick you have a heads up about whats going on.

Madein1995 · 27/09/2018 23:28

I've not read the full thread but it'd make more sense to ask your surgeon for painkillers. Part of their job is post op care, surely? If you're in pain they will need to give you pain killers, regardless of whether the pain is caused by elective surgery or by emergency surgery.

Their job is to provide care afterwards surely. Thus is purely anecdotal and my own experience and tell me to shut up if you wish. But taking other peoples prescribed medication isn't a great idea. For one at least when a professional is giving it to you they're aware of what you're taking, how much your body can handle, how long to give it to you for and how to gradually decrease the dosage. You can't really do all that yourself. If you're in pain, tell your surgery, or even do go to your gp. They can't ignore your pain and will help you. But don't go down the road of taking your friends. Please

Ollivander84 · 27/09/2018 23:30

Cocodamol has no effect on me whatsoever. I may as well take a smartie! Confused
The doctors said some people can't convert it? So I got put on 4 doses a day of 60mg dihydrocodeine and wasn't even vaguely sleepy. Then they muttered something about red hair and painkiller/anaesthetic tolerance Blush

itsbritneybiatches · 27/09/2018 23:31

My sister is an a and e nurse.

I haven't asked because I wouldn't put her in that position. She has hers done and
Went to Tesco the same night for the tea.

My other sister was laid up for a week.
And in agony.
I will be happy for a happy medium lol.

The tablets were offered to me and I said thank you. I prob won't need them
.
They were a just incase but by the sounds of things for this type of op of I'm in that much pain then I need to go back in ASAP.

I am sure my surgeon will offer me the proper pain relief as he's had the best reviews in my area.

I'm a worrier .
I have a five year old who will be with her Nan for the week.
Like I said I'm worrying more so because of how my younger sister was with hers

OP posts:
NotMyNameButHereForever · 27/09/2018 23:42

The sister that went for Tesco for tea on the same day almost certainly had a nerve blocker during the op as otherwise there is no way she'd have been able to manage that. I'm guessing your other sister didn't.

I do sincerely wish you all the best but for a 'worrier' I'm baffled as to why you haven't even acknowledged the fact that Breast Implant Illness exists let alone said you've looked into it Confused I know literally thousands of women who would kill to be back in the place you are right now, pre op and been made aware of BII and you seem to be wanting to stick your fingers in your ears instead.

Good luck and good luck with DD too.

Buggerbrexit · 27/09/2018 23:43

Don’t take your friends pills- post op I was given tramadol (far bigger and more invasive surgery) but was onto paracetamol only within days. Don’t take cocodomol with anything else - ie tramadol/Dihidrocodeine.

It will cost the nhs less to see you for painkillers if you need them Than to see you in a and e if you overdose accidentally.

Buggerbrexit · 27/09/2018 23:45

Ollivander he’s right, it’s more common in redheads - bizarre as it sounds!

itsbritneybiatches · 27/09/2018 23:45

@NotMyNameButHereForever

Hi thank you for your response.

I have researched all of the surgeons on my area.
I met a few.
I was comfortable with the one I chose.

I am comfortable with the pain management offered.

I realise the risks

Thank you for the links.

What was offered to me pain killer wise was along the lines of "ducking hell that will hurt I've got some pain relief from x t and z".

I accepted.
Am sure I will be great.
If it's too sore
I will take half a tab. But not with anything else.
Thank you for the links

Bugger - I'm also a bleeder Grin

Weirdly I bounce back from GA, wake up starving and then am wired for 2 days and can't sleep. Surgeon commented most people would still be on morphine and vomiting after a 5hr op and not asking for a second portion of pudding Blush

DolorestheNewt · 27/09/2018 23:50

Can I just add - I haven't RTFT, but I didn't find headache on a search - that I took cocodamol 8/500 or Nurofen 8/200 for a few days for dental pain from Friday to Monday, and I think the codeine has left me with a persistent headache. I'm sure it'll go, but it's something to be aware of.

Abeautifulpeagreenboat · 27/09/2018 23:51

Test run one just to see how you get on with it

Yeah, just take someone else's prescribed medication and see how you go...

itsbritneybiatches · 27/09/2018 23:56

@NotMyNameButHereForever

Looked into all of the procedures
For the last 20 years.

Nothing is risk free. I get that.

Having no breasts ever since puberty and what you do have is a cup size out
Is shit.

Shit when you are a young girl developing is awkward. As an adult with the Same No real Reason why is self conscious.

I can't wait to feel normal.
And a bit bigger. I'm so excited to feel excited about a bra.

My mum is coming with me once I'm all settled because we never had that experience xx

To me this is such a big deal.

Thebookswereherfriends · 27/09/2018 23:59

Be aware that you may have an adverse reaction if you’ve never taken codeine based pills before. I had all my wisdom teeth taken and was given codeine to take, took one when I got home and 5 mins later I fainted dead away! Just plopped onto the floor, luckily my mum was with and stopped me banging my head on the floor.

itsbritneybiatches · 28/09/2018 00:01

I've definitely acknowledged what you say of course I have I'm Middle Aged.

I'm nervous as fuck (scared)

Olivander84 I'm the same as you, I come round in seconds, then I'm bouncing off the walls. I had a hysterectomy, got back on the ward at 8.00pm watched television & played online bingo on my phone all night, I couldn't shut my eyes. At midnight I had my partner rummaging in our snack bag for everything I could fancy, I sat eating nearly all night, pop, chocolate, crisps, sandwiches. Thankfully I was in a private hospital & he was able to stay with me, one of the nurses even made me coffee & toast about 4.00am as I was starving, as I'd had it done keyhole I was able to go home the morning after, I was supposed to rest but between us we cooked a full English fry up, my partner was shattered but I just couldn't sit still, I finally crashed 60 hours after coming out of theatre despite having morphine in hospital & being sent home with 30/500 co-codamol, ibuprofen & taking my normal pain relief for Fibromyalgia. They just don't touch me but give me 100mg of Gabapentin & I'm off my face all day.
