Would you ever chase a (newish) friend for a reply to a message after a few hours?

No.

tlove · 27/09/2018 12:02

Even if it was about plans and you needed to know what you were doing?

No, unless it actually required a response that quickly (do you need a lift etc)

worknamechanged · 27/09/2018 12:02

Depends what it said

do you want to meet for coffee? no

Are you okay no

Can you pick up Elsie and George or shall I leave work early yes

IsTheRainEverComingBack · 27/09/2018 12:02

See this is why it’s helpful to not drip feed...

tlove · 27/09/2018 12:03

@IsTheRainEverComingBack I don't want to be recognised! 😖

No, unless it was urgent. If the friend is aware of the plans then there's no point chasing anyway!

HolesinTheSoles · 27/09/2018 12:04

Unless there was a pressing need (e.g. do you still want me to book your cinema ticket for tonight? Are you still OK to pick up little Annie from Ballet?) then no not after a few hours.

tlove · 27/09/2018 12:04

I won't chase, I'm sure she's just busy. Thank you mn

I have a long standing friend who does this and it pisses me right off. She'll text, and if I don't reply in a few hours will follow up with " did you get my text" and then resend it. It's so annoying. Good job I love her.

So with a new friend, absolutely definitely not unless it really is urgent.

PhilomenaButterfly · 27/09/2018 12:30

No.

BevBrook · 27/09/2018 12:30

Personally I check my mobile only once or twice a day, so if you are chasing me to reply to a text by texting me again, I won't see that one either. Maybe she is like me.

NorthEndGal · 27/09/2018 12:30

Glad you are going to wait!

Fatasfook · 27/09/2018 12:36

I have my phone on silent most of the time and my settings so that messages don’t appear on the home screen, so I have to unlock my phone and check for messages, so if I’m busy I am (blissfully) unaware I have a message and some can go hours before being answered.

I hate it when I get follow up texts (if not important) I have a friend that will send her messages one after the other. Eg:
Hi (send)
You ok? (Send)
What are you doing at the weekend? (Send)

I once looked at my phone and had 12 messages from them just like this in the space of 2 minutes.
When I asked why they don’t just send in one text their response was “so you reply quicker.”

I have a newborn, a 6 year old and planning to move soon so I’m not quick to replying to texts. If it’s urgent and I haven’t replied then try calling. Angry
