To expect my husband not to say this.

At a restaurant with my dh..I have a large phone that always gets a lot of questions. The young waitress asked me about it and I replied that I was thinking of getting a new one as it was too big. My husband then pipes up with "well she is used to having big things in her hand" the waitress seemed embarrassed send moved on..I was mortified. I am quite an introvert private person anyway and this was too much for me. I told him this wasn't appropriate and he barked at me that it was a joke and I need to grow up.

It's ok to make jokes like that with your mates at the pub. Most of my mates are used to the repartee and can give as well as they get. There, a comment like this would inevitably get responses like 'thinks he's a big man does he?' and you expect everyone to laugh at you if someone turns the innuendo back on you.
A waitress is obliged to be polite to customers and is not allowed to give the response this deserves. He knows he can embarrass or humiliate her safely with little chance of her embarrassing him.

It's just a joke
I would've laughed if I was the waitress and probably forgotten all about it.

That's hilarious, actress to the bishop type thing. I love a bit of innuendo brightens my day.

A joke is when everybody is laughing, not just the person making it. That's the line I always use with these boors. He sounds hideous.

...Am I the only one to have noticed that the OP also said (on page 1 of this thread no less!):

"Yes..he is a malignant narcissist..so I have to put up with bad behavior all the time..I just wasn't sure on this one."

Angelil · 27/09/2018 17:06

To me that makes it worse than just a crass and poorly-timed joke.

Or...
'really you think that? Your penis is decidly below average...'

"A waitress is obliged to be polite to customers and is not allowed to give the response this deserves. He knows he can embarrass or humiliate her safely with little chance of her embarrassing him."

That's why it wasn't OK. It would have been OK if the OP found it funny and it was just to her or friends. The waitress was at work.
