To expect my husband not to say this.

At a restaurant with my dh..I have a large phone that always gets a lot of questions. The young waitress asked me about it and I replied that I was thinking of getting a new one as it was too big. My husband then pipes up with "well she is used to having big things in her hand" the waitress seemed embarrassed send moved on..I was mortified. I am quite an introvert private person anyway and this was too much for me. I told him this wasn't appropriate and he barked at me that it was a joke and I need to grow up.

LTB yesterday

CrazyPineapple · 27/09/2018 11:15

You should have laughed too loudly for too long, then exclaimed to the waitress 'oh the irony, that's the funniest thing I've heard all week'

MrsStrowman · 27/09/2018 11:16

I think a lot of you who think the waitress would be upset or embarrassed probably haven't waitressed. I heard an awful lot worse than this, she either paid no attention or thought he was a bit of an idiot.
The comment was immature, but so are responses like throw a drink in his face and walk out or dump him over one comment. 🙄
If he does this kind of thing regularly call him on it, tell him it's not funny, if its a one off roll your eyes, maybe a witty response like @woollyheart said and let it go.

woollyheart · 27/09/2018 11:16

Do you think he knows it embarrasses you and does it even more often?

Haireverywhere · 27/09/2018 11:17

@CrazyPineapple yes!

My DH has never made any jokes about his endowment but I'm now prepared!

roundturnandtwohalfhitches · 27/09/2018 11:22

I have a friend who does this sort of thing all the time. 'That's what she said' , 'That's what he said' innuendo. It's just sad. He's a sad dirty old man even though he's only 29.

Juells · 27/09/2018 11:24

Must be something wrong with me :( I'd have laughed. It's a joke.

RB68 · 27/09/2018 11:32

It was a crude joke said to a young woman in a jobrole that she is unlikely to be able to leave from - wouldn't be acceptable from a client in an office shouldn't be in a restaurant either. Effectively a form of sexual harassment and the more we accept or normalise this behaviour the worse it gets.

lovetherisingsun · 27/09/2018 11:33

I don't know why men do it. They just look like twats. And everyone is thinking it. And if their wife/partner says anything, they are accused of being boring, or unreasonable, or having no sense of humour, and are even accused of being jealous
God forbid his wife behaves like this around men though. hmm

SO true. They think they're so funny...they're just too immature and thick to realise that no one over the age of 15 and female would even find that remotely haha worthy. Or, any female at all. Fucking moron.

Changedforpost · 27/09/2018 11:42

Id have laughed at that! Probably replied that hes the biggest dick I've seen..
Guess I'm s minority Confused

Haireverywhere · 27/09/2018 11:49

I wouldn't have laughed in that context. It's sexual harassment isn't it?

AhhhhThatsBass · 27/09/2018 11:50

That is wrong on so many levels.

GabsAlot · 27/09/2018 12:07

lovely has he got form for this?

CaptainCabinets · 27/09/2018 12:42

MN hysteria at its best. I’d have laughed, DP and I make jokes like this all the time.

0rlaith · 27/09/2018 12:46

Didn’t you notice that the joke wasn’t with his partner ? It was with the waitress.

What you and your partner do as consenting adults in private isn’t really relevant.

The waitress is paid to serve people, not have sexually harassing comments made to her. Can’t you see how wrong this is ?

delphguelph · 27/09/2018 12:49

So what if he has a big dick? He's thick as shit

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 27/09/2018 12:50

I'd have been so embarrassed

RomanyRoots · 27/09/2018 13:01

Well, stop trying to impress people with your phone Grin, keep it in your bag, it's rude to have it out in a restaurant.
Then, maybe dump the sick guy.

Hissy · 27/09/2018 13:07

urgh.

i'm no prude, but that's so low class, what a total idiot he is.

bet he's not that well endowed either OR knows what to do with it

Why ARE you with him?

Duskqueen · 27/09/2018 13:13

If he ever says it again you should say yeah the magnifying glass.

GummyGoddess · 27/09/2018 13:18

Or raise an eyebrow 'Aren't we the optimist?'

Yes, I have been watching 10 things I hate about you.

Buster72 · 27/09/2018 13:25

Again what kind of rude waitress comments on your phone......not minimising the cringeworthy comment made but she is paid to serve....not make comments.

FanciedAChangeToday · 27/09/2018 13:25

Sheesh - how big is your phone??? For people to make comments about it Confused

BakedBeans47 · 27/09/2018 13:27

Grim.

Juells · 27/09/2018 14:00

God almighty I mostly think I'm a dreadful prude, but people of both sexes make jokes like that all the time. I don't do it myself because it doesn't occur to me, but I can't imagine being offended by it.
