Fecking wedding dresses

I'm getting married next year and obviously I need some sort of outfit to do the deed in. Normally I'm a "pop into the shop and have a rummage" kind of shopper as I've found that setting my heart on something I've seen on the internet only leads to disappointment. So what have I done? Set my heart on a dress I've seen on the internet from a designer apparently nobody stocks, or they only stock the bridesmaids line, and anyway how the fecking hell do you find out how much it costs?!

Also my car failed it's MOT and I think the boiler broke last night. WIBU to get married in 3 year old jeans from Next and a t shirt from Gap?!

Probably missing the point here but what dress is it? Let's see if we can find it for you!

melvet77 · 27/09/2018 09:41

Aw @user1471459936 cheers. It's Kelsey Rose Mikado. I'm at the "I like the look of it but will it suit me?" stage. It feels like a huge undertaking- almost not worth the bother- just to find one to try on. It feels like I'll be putting people out and then what if I don't like it?! (I once bought shoes I really didn't like because the salesperson had spent so long and been so nice with me.).

Can you email them to ask where the dress is stocked?

Hidillyho · 27/09/2018 09:45

Have you got a pic of the dress? If so, go on Facebook and join ‘Mrs Gloss and the goss’ group. Those people are amazing at hunting dresses down.

Wedding dress shopping is different to other shopping. No one expects you to buy a dress the day you try it on as they expect you to shop around so I wouldn’t feel pressured into getting it if you don’t like it

Hidillyho · 27/09/2018 09:46

^^ not that you are obliged to buy anything just because a sales person has spent time with you

Flashingbeacon · 27/09/2018 09:52

I can’t say this in real life without offending anyone. I absolutely am just talking about me no judgement.
My friend bout a cheap dress online because they like the shape and we’re going to have a seamstress make it up in silk for a wedding. She didn’t like it when it arrived. She showed me. I tried it on and I LOVE it, so much I want to get married in it next year. It cost £19.99 and isn’t even a bridesmaid dress.
Basically, your a bride in a £5k ball gown or jeans so wear what you like.
Why not start at tk max and John Lewis trying stuff on and work your way up to wedding dress shops (if you need to).

Rightsaidmabel · 27/09/2018 09:54

Contact them, info is on Kelsey Rose website.
And I see what you like! What an attractive happy looking dress!

Bluewidow · 27/09/2018 09:58

Find a seamstress and get a copy made if it's the dress for you. Can ensure it fits you then.

ShirleyPhallus · 27/09/2018 10:01

I got married in clothes that I found in an overnight bag in the boot of my car (which did involve jeans from next, and a top from fatface if I recall correctly!). It was our legal "get the paperwork done" in the registry office wedding the day before our "illegal" wedding.

I totally wasn't bothered about wedding dresses. My idea of hell. I'm not a small girl, I'm over 6ft and very broad (if I were a bloke I'd be a second row rugby player!) and my worst nightmare was that in a dress shop all the samples would be way too small. I got ambushed into going dress shopping. A couple of friends took me to a charity where they had every possible dress style under the sun, in all different sizes (from 6-32) just with a view to trying some on to get some ideas.

2 hours later, dress was bought and paid for and they did all the alterations etc. too. Easiest thing ever and totally not what I expected to come away with. I listened to the experts (the volunteers who ran the boutique) and trusted the judgement of them and my friends and I wasn't disappointed. Best bit was that all the dresses were under £500 (I had major issues with spending a large sum of money on a dress full stop, never mind something I'd never wear again!) and it all went to charity.

Go try some on, do a deal with yourself to be open minded, and you may well be surprised.

salsamad · 27/09/2018 10:24

Go on the Kelsey Rose website - kelseyrose.co.uk and you can search for retailers who stock their dressers near to you with an option to increase miles to stockist/retailers further afield.
For example I put in Uk and then my home times and there were 5 stockists within 50 miles in Nottinghamshire, Staffordshire, Huddersfield, Birmingham and Lancashire. These retailers have email addresses so you can email them all with your dress details and hopefully they can help.

sugarbum · 27/09/2018 10:36

Also, there was another MNetter on here a couple of years ago looking for a specific dress which was impossible to come by, and by the power of MNet it happened and she got her dress.

spanishwife · 27/09/2018 10:40

OP - you need to get onto Reddit, they have the best wedding topics and people really know their stuff. I'm sure it would really help you out.

Looks quite American based to start but plenty of UK and European brides to be on there who can help. I found it really useful.

FWIW, I am big into fashion/designer stuff etc... but I bought my dress online without trying it on from an American wedding dress store. It's from their 'cheaper' line and cost less than £200 inc. shipping to UK. I LOVE IT. I have summer dresses that cost me more but I wear them so much!
It's really chic, fits me perfectly and looks really expensive. Don't give up hope! and DONT buy a dress that costs thousands for one day!

Gazelda · 27/09/2018 10:53

What a gorgeous dress!
I fell in love with mine in an old magazine. Had the same trouble as you trying to find a stockist. I emailed the designer who was very helpful. I found the dress and loved it even more in 'real life'
Good luck 🍀

nobodyloveslava · 27/09/2018 11:34

I have a dress a bit like that looking for a new home. Feel free to send me a message, I'm in the SE if that helps.

melvet77 · 27/09/2018 11:47

Well this has been exponentially more helpful than I anticipated. (Been on a bit of a downer lately- car, boiler I'm looking at you two). Will get right in this as soon as the baby naps. Come on baby. Naptime? No? Rave? Ok then.

That dress is gorgeous you have to find it!!! The online retailers page is impossible to use.

TruffleShuffles · 27/09/2018 12:47

Also just because a store only stocks the designers bridesmaid dresses doesn’t mean they can’t get a sample delivered to their store for you to try on. When I was looking I was told that if they stocked the designer they could request any of their designs but you did have to pay for the cost of the dress to be sent to the store but that fee would be waived if you went on to purchase the dress. So if you do have a local store that stocks get bridesmaid dresses it’s still worth asking.

Duskqueen · 27/09/2018 13:16

Just go in a bridal shop with that design in mind, I had my heart set on a specific dress and when I tried it on I looked awful and after trying a couple on, found on I fell in love with even more that suited me.

Lostbeyondwords · 27/09/2018 13:21

I can't help OP (sorry) but that dress is absolutely beautiful! I hope you find it

TitzillatheHun · 27/09/2018 13:57

OP I got married in a Kelsey Rose dress that I bought from By Design in Gloucester - don't know if that's anywhere near you, but the lady that runs it is fab. I'm sure you could ring her up and ask about ordering the dress.

Savvyandchips · 27/09/2018 14:02

Love the dress! You will find it!
