To wonder why I’ve become so hairy all of a sudden?

I’ve just turned 36 and have noticed that I’ve started getting the odd chin hair, my upper lip hair is no longer being removed by the hair removal cream I use and I’ve found a few long (about 3/4 inch) dark hairs in a line from belly button down wards. Is this just what starts happening when you get older or am I just turning into a wookie? 😂

I’m only in my 20’s and I get random hairs! It’s since having kids I’ve become some sort of werewolf. And they just appear over night!

Aquamarine1029 · 26/09/2018 23:24

It's hormones, darling! Welcome to Peri-menopause.

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 26/09/2018 23:33

Oh god no, not just you! I've gone from a few stray hairs to being a full on bearded lady in the last year (I'm 38). It's fucking WEIRD. Legs, arms, armpits, all the same as they ever were.

My FACE though. My actual FACE. I feel like I have a permanent five o'clock shadow. If I lost my tweezers, I'd cry hot hairy tears.

Ninoo25 · 26/09/2018 23:37

Glad it’s. It just me then! I’ve even got an extra eyelash that’s appeared right in the corner of my eye, growing out of the tear duct end! I’ve noticed my Auntie has one too. In too sensitive a place to pluck, so looks like I’m stuck with it. Great

Wait til you're 47. I have a pair of tweezers in the car, in my bag, in the bathroom, in my bedroom.....

Ninoo25 · 26/09/2018 23:38

it’s not just me even. Bloody autocorrect.

Oh no! Are you all dark haired too? Is it a dark haired thing? (I’ve always had thick black eyebrows that have taken quite some taming)

The difference in the last 10 years is astounding. I found one hair at 26 and now at 37 I have tweezers and mirrors everywhere! I have very thick whiskers sprouting from two main patches on my chin, a lovely moustache if left and wonderful random hairs which pop up all over my face and neck which I don't notice until they're an inch long and glistening in the sunlight!

BetterEatCheese · 26/09/2018 23:42

And yes I am dark ish haired and have brown eyes

Aquamarine1029 · 26/09/2018 23:45

I'm 45 and I've been pretty lucky so far. Several neck hairs that I have to keep on top of, but the weirdest thing is I have a singular eyebrow hair, right side only, that is like a crazy old man hair. It's pure white and grows like MAD overnight. I don't have any other gray hairs yet, just this one crazy beast. It's insane.

QuimNiceButDim · 26/09/2018 23:46

I carry my little facial epilator in my handbag every day.
I’m 36.

Onwithsocks · 26/09/2018 23:54

Ah, god! I had my hairline and sidies waxed this week. First time ever! In all fairness, I do look amazing!

Chickenitalia · 26/09/2018 23:56

Nope, definitely worse in the last few years, I’m 40. The chin hairs are something else, nothing one day, an inch long the next. It’s bizarre. I’ve always had to deal with a moustache and random eyebrows doing their own thing, but this is a whole new level of furriness. I don’t like it. Also one random grey eyebrow hair, but no grey on my head, and a tear duct hair which is just offensive because it curls round and hurts my eye. Yes I’m unhappy.

Small electric razors are your friend. I have a tiny round one that I got online, cant remember the name now, but it was worth every penny. My 9 year old dd has the same issues I had growing up with hair, and I’m determined she will not suffer the same horrible teasing. She can use hers with ease. Whatever it takes op, you’re not alone.

Btw: dark hair, medium fair skin, brown eyes. Dd is the same. My hair is very curly while hers is dead straight. My very fair ds has no hair issues at all. This feels very unfair.

Lalliella · 27/09/2018 00:13

Slightly off topic but when I was pregnant with DS my pubic hair grew really long. That didn’t happen with DD. Weird!

CSIblonde · 27/09/2018 00:20

Dunno. But I'm starting to think I have Yeti/Big foot DNA somewhere way, way back: due to my hairy toes. (gross)!

agnurse · 27/09/2018 00:39

Testosterone levels increase as women age and this can trigger hair growth.

The "line" of hair going down from your belly button is probably running along a line called the linea alba. This is a "line" that runs down the middle of the abdomen. It often darkens during pregnancy and is called the linea nigra when this happens. Hair growth along the line can be normal but can also be a sign of higher testosterone.

If it's really bothering you you may like to go to your provider and ask to have your testosterone level checked. (While testosterone is a male hormone it is produced in small amounts in women by the ovaries and the adrenal glands. Similarly men produce small amount of estrogen and progesterone in the adrenal glands.)

Lillygolightly · 27/09/2018 00:41

When pregnant with my first at 23 I got just 1 long curled thick black hair that grew right beside my belly button, it was weird.

Pregnant with my second at 28 and I sprouted a rather wirey looking grey hair from my chin.

Pregnant with my 3rd at 35 and things went a bit nuts, I got a grey eyelash (thank fuck for black mascara) grey pubes that now make my foof resemble a skunk, have had to develop interesting shaving techniques to avoid that. A singular long white eyebrow hair, mine a dark brown so it’s obvious so it gets plucked. Strangely though my leg hair hardly grew and I could go 4/5 days before needing to shave stubble, now baby is born though normal growth has resumed....fuckers Envy

Sounds like PCOS to me... Weird question.. Have you put on a little weight recently?

Benandhollysmum · 27/09/2018 00:57

Our body’s are covered in hair just as we get older we notice it more, and hormones do play a part

Merryoldgoat · 27/09/2018 03:57

I basically have a beard and ‘tache. I have a close relationship with my Tweezermans and pluck daily. It got worse around 30 and has just got worse the older and fatter I get.

I have lost a bit of weight recently and there has been a very slight decrease in hair production.

3luckystars · 27/09/2018 04:10

Could you have endometriosis, or polycystic ovarian syndrome (pcos)?
Or a thyroid problem?

Toddlerteaplease · 27/09/2018 12:14

I'm 36 and just had my first chin wax. Mortifying to sit in the middle of John Lewis having it done!

Treaclepie19 · 27/09/2018 12:18

28 and fair skinned. Medium ish hair.
I am so hairy it's ridiculous. I really must do something about it. I pluck out the dark ones but I think I need a face wax 😭

Boredisboring · 27/09/2018 12:22

It took me a while to notice it, but my hairline at the back (the nape of my neck) has been getting lower. I'll be able to scrape a ponytail together half way down my back soon.

TheChocolateTrain · 27/09/2018 14:43

Oh god, me too. And my complexion has gone to bits over the past few months. Ever since I took antivirals for shingles. I've no idea what to do about it. Or the random long hairs sprouting from my cheeks. Tries to attack the moustache with tweezers but can still see where it was Confused
