To think babies are learning to walk earlier than a few years ago?

I go to a baby group and out of 6 mums I know (babies age 9-10 months) 5 of them are walking!

DD was the first one walking out of her group 5 years ago and she started at 11.5 months.

Spoke to a mum at soft play today with kids the same age and weirdly she randomly said the same thing, that babies she knows seem to be walking by 10 months - way earlier now than when her oldest was young.

Just curious is this true for mumsnet? Or just a weird coincidence out of my friends. Walking at 9-10 months seemed unheard of when my eldest was born!

DD walked at 16 months
DS walked at 17 months
I walked at 9 months by 10 months was running and by 11 months climbing scarily high
I’ve seen the photo evidence I’m 50+ and DM just says that’s the way I was and people didn’t compare as much or competitive parent

DD1 (11) was 15 months
DS (8) was 22 months (but diagnosed development delay)
DD2 (6) was 18 months
DD3 is 18 months and not even cruising, but she didn’t sit unaided until she was 13 months, and crawled 2 days later so I’m not too worried.
DS, and DDs 2 and 3 were all prem.

My DD started walking at 11mo, she’s now 12 mo Grin
She’s never had any baby contraptions (apart from a little bouncy seat we used when she was a newborn) and crawled three different ways. First was the army crawl, ‘normal’ crawling and then right up on hands and feet (I dubbed this the spider crawl).

Mine were both 14 months.

It’s one of these things that really doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things. My nephew was waking at 9 months, he’s an adult now and it wasn’t exactly an indicator of future genius.

1st - walked at 14 months
2nd - walked at 12 months
3rd - walked at 10 months

So in my case, my subsequent children walked earlier than my eldest (now 11). I put it down to having an older sibling and wanting to catch up with them (there’s between 2/3 years between each child).

Mine hit all his mobility milestones bang on time, crawled at 8 months, pulled himself up and was crusing the day after. No encouragement from me, jumperoo between 4-7 months, never "walked" with him, but he walked unaided and confidently at 10 months. He's also a big, tall boy, always has been and enjoyed tummy time.

I was a baby who skipped crawling, and now everything about my characteristic lack of coordination since then is explained. Sad

My daughter started crawling at 6.5 months and by 9 months she was walking.

I'm currently pregnant with DC2 and secretly hope that this one isn't as active so early on!

. I always find it odd when parents are proud that their LO 'didn't bother' with crawling.
Why do you read it as proud? DS didnt crawl and is dyslexic, but he had swimming lessons from an early age which probably helped. He had no problems with hand eye coordination or core strength etc.

My children-

DS 1- Two years old (SN)
DS 2- 20 months (SN)
DS3- 16 months
DD1- 9 months
DD2- 10 months

I'm in my 30s and was walking at before 9 months. My ds walked at 12.

ShackUp · 27/09/2018 06:48

My two were always in a sling, both walked around 9 months.

Nomad86 · 27/09/2018 06:52

I found the opposite. My dsis and I walked at 9m, as did my two DC. Out of everyone we know, only one walked before their first birthday.
