To wonder what has happened to my front door?

Just been to the shop and when I came back noticed these weird marks / holes on the front door next to the lock.

They can’t have been there more than a couple of days as they’re so obvious.

What on Earth is this?!

To wonder what has happened to my front door?

Woodpecker mistaking it for a tree?

TheEmmaDilemma · 26/09/2018 18:46

They look like the start of drill holes to me

Dunkling · 26/09/2018 18:48

They're not perfect enough to be drill holes.

Someone lost/drunk jabbing at the wood with their (obviously) non fitting key?

sleepylittlebunnies · 26/09/2018 18:50

I was think it’s been jabbed with the key by accident.

SinkGirl · 26/09/2018 18:53

I thought accidentally key jabs too but it looks like two pairs of holes rather than one thing striking four times. Only DH and I have keys and neither of us have been drunk lately! Maybe sometime pissed trying to get into the wrong door?

They look to uniform to be missed jabbing to me... and plus surely if your jabbing and missing then the key would slide down the wood a little, not just puncture like this :S very odd

itbemay · 26/09/2018 19:03

Are there any dents in the frame? Could it be an attempted break in with a lever of some sort?

Pollypanda · 26/09/2018 19:05

It looks like someone using an older style key has jabbed it a couple of times.

SinkGirl · 26/09/2018 19:05

There’s no other damage I can see.

Trying to convince myself that they’ve been there the whole time since we moved in (15 months!) but there’s just no way neither of us would have noticed them. They’re right there when you put they key in, I just noticed them immediately.

They almost look like staple holes or something?

Sorry hit send too early! Such as a Chubb key. Have you asked neighbours if they noticed anything suspicious?

redsummershoes · 26/09/2018 19:09

it does look 'fresh'
anyone has a very dangly key chain with lots of keys? a cleaner?
or postman leaning on the door pushing letters through?

burglars ime either drill the lock or use a bar. both leave different marks.

Joboy · 26/09/2018 19:12

Do you own or rent .
Rent get land lord down.
Own .. need to see if you can afford new door

KickAssAngel · 26/09/2018 19:53

Do you live near a pub or students?

When I was a student one of my housemates got a bit drunk, got the streets mixed up and spent a while trying to get her key into the wrong lock before realizing she should be on the next street. It's the start of the year, so they're easily confused right now.

SinkGirl · 26/09/2018 20:55

We own the house. Definitely no one else with keysz the more I look at it the more I think it’s staples but I can’t think why anyone would staple something to the door, or in that location!

Do you really think we need a new door? It’s not very deep. No to pubs or students. I suppose it could have been a delivery person but it’s just so odd.

OP posts:
SinkGirl · 26/09/2018 20:55

I’ll ask my neighbours tomorrow

SinkGirl · 26/09/2018 20:56

Thing is, DH works from home and I’m here most of the time so if anything happened during the day we would have noticed. Our room is at the back of the house though so may not have heard something at night.

Racecardriver · 26/09/2018 20:58

Do you have a ring with two pointy bits?

SinkGirl · 26/09/2018 22:16

Nope - I did wonder if it could be something like that but can’t think of anything.

Apologies all, this will be one of those annoying threads with no answer!

dudsville · 26/09/2018 22:21

Any packaging or deliveries that had staple points sticking out? Or someone feel against the door with metal bits somewhere on them?

teaandtoast · 26/09/2018 22:29

Weird. I'd think about upgrading security.

ambostraw · 26/09/2018 22:38

Own .. need to see if you can afford new door

Why on earth would the OP need a new door?

ShatnersBassoon · 26/09/2018 22:43

My guess is that they've always been there and you just haven't noticed. Perhaps a previous owner stapled a note there for a deliveryman or similar.

Nicknacky · 26/09/2018 22:50

Why does she need a new front door?!

Ringsender2 · 26/09/2018 22:54

Does one of you have a big bunch of keys? It looks like the spiky bits from another yale key on the bunch have been pressed into the paintwork whilst putting the house key in the lock /turning it

Fruitbatdancer · 26/09/2018 23:00

No need for a new door, but if you didn’t change the locks when you moved in 15 months ago now might be a good time, just incase.
But then we were robbed in night while we slept so I’m a bit crazy about stuff like this.
