.... but I’ve just finished watching all 8 seasons of Dexter. AIBU to be so disappointed by the finale that I could almost cry?! ☹️

YANBU! The ending was the biggest pile of crap I've ever had the misfortune to lay my eyes on.

I still really enjoyed Dexter up until that point though.

crochetmonkey74 · 26/09/2018 14:42

I hear you!

Loved 1-4
(4 is my fave season)

7/8 sooooooo disappointing

DratThatCat · 26/09/2018 14:44

Also, one question: why did he bury you know who (trying to avoid spoilers for anyone who may not have seen it yet) at sea when that was where he disposed of all of his victims? He just wouldn't. There was no reason to try to conceal the body so it didn't make sense.

I watched the finale about a year ago and it still annoys me.

crochetmonkey74 · 26/09/2018 14:47

hahahahahaha

I know- I saw it as a thing I had to finish rather than enjoy- which was gutting as it was appointment telly for me when I first started watching it

Morgan12 · 26/09/2018 14:52

This still angers me 5 years on. Its the worst ending of a series ever.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 26/09/2018 14:59

The ending was terrible. It was like the writers ran out of steam and couldn't be arsed any more.

TrudeauGirl · 26/09/2018 15:02

Spoilers below

I wish they had kept Brian and not had him kill off his brother. The dynamic between them was very interesting and I loved the actor who played Brian.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 26/09/2018 15:03

I stopped watching during the season with the annoying English woman with the addictive personality. Just because of her really, I was enjoying the rest of the storylines.

user1495955132 · 26/09/2018 15:10

That’s what makes it so disappointing I think, because up until the end I had really enjoyed it and was rooting for all the main characters. DratThatCat - that really annoyed me too! Firstly - I’m gutted they died in the first place, but how did he manage to sneak the body out without one person noticing, and then to dump it in the same place he dumped all his other “trash”! Just why?! It felt like the writers were on a tight schedule and ran out of time, so the ending was just blah, blah, blah The End.

GreatDuckCookery - exactly that!

DH and I were v late to the party with Dexter too. We just got into it - about halfway through season 3 I think when they took it off netflix where we live Shock

proper pissed off we were Grin

WheelOfMisfortune · 26/09/2018 16:22

God I loved Dexter.

I remember finishing season 5 and racing to blockbuster to rent season 6 in desperation.

Cannot believe it was that long ago that I blockbustered it!!!

I’ve never seen the finale..... my OH knows I am fond of a particular character and told me not to watch. I live on in blissful ignorance!

serbska · 26/09/2018 16:25

The finale is so disappointing

TheKnackeredChef · 26/09/2018 16:32

I agree. Awful, awful ending. It's like they sacked all the writers and got in people who knew absolutely nothing about the character. He would never have abandoned his son. And quite honestly, I could've lived with it if he'd just died in the storm. But the lumberjack scene? Fucking what?!!

As you can tell, I still feel quite strongly about this.

Alsonification · 26/09/2018 16:37

I agree the ending was so rubbish. I loved it til the last season. My fave season was the one with John Lithgow. I adore him. “Hello Dexter Morgan” (done in John Lithgows creepy voice!)

carmelsundae · 26/09/2018 16:42

Hello Dexter Morgan is my favourite quote from a tv series, it was a brilliant moment. It went downhill from There and we never watched the last 2 series. I did Google it, and was glad we didn't watch it!!

Avalicious1980 · 26/09/2018 16:48

I’m halfway through season 8 now so flicked through to avoid spoilers. I had a five year hiatus between seasons 4 and 5 as I got bored but I am so into it now that I’m dreading getting to the end so I’ve rationed myself to one every few nights.

What can I watch when it’s over?

Also why do I have a massive crush on Quinn? And a small crush on Angel?

Avalicious1980 · 26/09/2018 16:50

Also just recently watched the season 7 finale “Suprise Motherf” And can’t believe that big me and DH were rooting for the serial killer to kill the good cop...hope that’s vague enough spoiler-wise???

onefootinthegrave · 26/09/2018 17:23

As I read this I am rewatching Dexter and am halfway through the barrel girls series, started from season 1 a few weeks ago. I was gutted when Sgt Doakes was killed off in the 2nd season ,and although I hated the fact that Trinity killed Rita, I thought that was a great ending to that series.

I also found it so far fetched that Deb would have stood by him when she found out who he was, and really wish she hadn't been killed off!

One of my favourite lines was when Angel asked Deborah how much coffee she had had that morning and she replied 'A metric fuck ton' Grin

SegmentationFault · 26/09/2018 18:23

YANBU, the last few seasons were kind of a chore to watch and it definitely did not pay off. It doest help that it aired a few days before the Breaking Bad finale, which IMO was amazing.

BetsyBigNose · 26/09/2018 20:30

YANBU. That is all.

DisneyMice · 26/09/2018 20:47

Yanbu.
I am very bitter about the ending. I was bitter about the last 2 series actually, they were rubbish. But I felt the writers were mocking me with that ending :(

But the Trinity series was just brilliant. There was no way of topping that ending

user1495955132 · 26/09/2018 21:11

Glad so many of you feel the same and it’s not just me being over invested! I only watched the last episode last night and I feel lost tonight with no more to watch. I feel so cheated that Quinn & Deb didn’t get to live happily ever after ☹️. (Also have a massive crush on Quinn, although personally think he looked better before he lost loads of weight and looked gaunt), and Angel was such a sweetheart, had a massive soft spot for him too. The Rita twist was so unexpected. I sobbed! 😢. Brilliant series right up until that last episode. If it wasn’t for the fact it ended 10 years ago I’d think there must be plans for a season 9 as I still can’t quite believe the writers left it like that. Will give breaking bad a go next.

HopeFaithAndSkulduggery · 26/09/2018 21:13

The only worse ending would have been ‘and it was all a dream ‘.

Avalicious1980 · 04/10/2018 11:43

Well I finally watched the last episode last night and I’m gutted. I expected a poor ending off reading this (and other) threads. Seriously...a lumberjack??? With a stick on beard!!!???? Deb’s death seemed rushed and definitely not thought through!!! Very messy and spoiled a great series for me.
