MIL has stolen my shoes!

This is not a joke...!

Historically I've had a very difficult relationship with Satan my MIL. DH pops his head in once a week on his way home from work but we otherwise have little to do with the witch. We get on OK when we do see her.

Last week I had to work away and she did massively help us out by popping in and checking on the puppy.... and since then I cannot find my very, very naice pair of wellies that my lovely DM treated me to.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, DH went in to say hi yesterday eve and my wellies were there, neat by my backdoor. He immediately said "are they showjumpers wellies?", she laughed and said "no, of course they're not." DH then said "oh showjumper has lost hers, exactly the same."
She then laughed and commented how absentminded I am!!

(I am but that's not the point!)

With risk of sounding awful, I do not think she would be familiar with the brand and even if she was, she would have the money to spend £300+ on a pair of wellies.

WWYD? All suggestions appreciated Grin

300 quid for a pair of wellies!!! That said I think you should make triple sure they aren't in your house somewhere as you'd be mortified if they turned up and you'd said something or your DH nicked them back...if you're sure though, get him to swipe them back and make sure you're wearing them next time you see her..she will know that you know and you will know that she knows you know..or something.....

MyShinyWhiteTeeth · 27/09/2018 18:10

My friend's mother took some of her other daughter's childhood toys back as she didn't want her grandchildren breaking them! It wasn't even stuff she'd bought herself but stuff from her ex husband and his wife (my friend's dad and step mum).

She's not sold them or anything but has them at her house. Her dad has said just to leave it as it will cause too much aggro.

longwayoff · 27/09/2018 18:10

Bloody hell! I've been very lucky with my relatives then. So far . . .Hmm

Powerless-I am almost speechless at your nerve

SolidarityGdansk · 27/09/2018 18:14

Are you sure that it was your MIL and not Mossad or Zionists?

If you read the thread, @craftylala, you will see a number of people have commented on the cost of the wellies, and the OP (and others) have explained that, if you spend a lot of time working outdoors, as the OP does, good, supportive footwear makes sense - and that, if you look at the amount of wear she will get per pound of cost makes them cost-effective.

Aprilsinparis · 27/09/2018 18:33

CF!

theonlywayisdown · 27/09/2018 18:40

MIL/Satan/Wellyzillas immediate response was, "oh you're here again, have you and showjumper broken up?!"

I’ve had this. MIL rang and asked what sort of day I’d had. I said “awful...” and was about to tell her that my friend had had some really bad news when she jumped in with “oh have you and DH split up?”

Of all the things in the universe, why would she say that?

jacqroberts68 · 27/09/2018 18:41

So glad you have them back and thank you for the entertainment

Seniorschoolmum · 27/09/2018 18:44

Oooh, I had a MIL like that. My ex used to go and retrieve my ski jacket, my fluffy hat, my Special cakes cook book at least once a month.
By the time we split, all my stuff was name tagged, like I was starting a new school. Confused

biscuitmillionaire · 27/09/2018 18:46

I think if you'd called them 'leather-lined equestrian rubber boots' in your OP then you'd have had fewer 'OMG £300 for wellies!' comments.

Glad you got them back though!

MipMipMip · 27/09/2018 18:47

m00rfarm if you still have them in the back of a cupboard stick a load of bicarbonate of soda in them for a few days. Should help with smell. Long term get some cheap (non clotting!) cat litter and put it in a pair of old socks. Long ones are best. Tie the top then put them in your boots. It helps dry them and keeps smells down. Don't fill too full or it's hard to stuff them down to your toes.

Boobsarenotloadbearing · 27/09/2018 19:02

Glad you got them back. What a CF!

oh you’re here again, have you and showjumper broken up?!

It sounds like she was trying to stir up some trouble with you and DH. Glad he didn't fall for her crap.

Oh and now I want some of those Ariat boots! ;)

fabtasticmrpox · 27/09/2018 19:12

I'm glad you got your wellies back Smile

It's years since I watched Corrie, Gail is a thief 😱 ?

I have RTFT and still think WTF £300 for wellies!

FrogFairy · 27/09/2018 19:26

Please ask your DH to put a quote on his fb page. One that includes the phrase “walk a mile in my/someone’s shoes”

Lovelymess · 27/09/2018 19:28

£300 for a pair of wellies?! Please tell me that was a typo

SchadenfreudePersonified · 27/09/2018 19:31

now I want some of those Ariat boots! ;)

So do I Boobs - they're gorgeous! I'm not on a huge income but thought they might be an investment - unfortunately they don't seem to make the adult ones small enough for my stupid child-size feet!

(Ooh - never looked to see if they did kids' sizes - but then it depends on the leg length)

DartmoorDoughnut · 27/09/2018 19:32

Oh ye fucking gods can everyone please RTFT!!

OP wears her wellies day in day out as part of her job.

Nanny0gg · 27/09/2018 19:33

I wish some people would read the damn thread!!

Cost per wear/hour on those 'wellies' will be minuscule.

OP, your DH should change his profile pic to one of your wellies (on your feet!)

Cosmos45 · 27/09/2018 19:35

Craftylala no I don’t think £300 on wellies is bizzare.. on the contrary. I walk my dog daily. Proper mud yomping over hills and dales yomping. I ride horses. Muck out and trample about on muck heaps.. even the £300 wellies (le chameau) lasted 2 years instead of the 10 years I had planned for them.. £30 wellies would last me about 3 weeks.. Grin
