MIL has stolen my shoes!

This is not a joke...!

Historically I've had a very difficult relationship with Satan my MIL. DH pops his head in once a week on his way home from work but we otherwise have little to do with the witch. We get on OK when we do see her.

Last week I had to work away and she did massively help us out by popping in and checking on the puppy.... and since then I cannot find my very, very naice pair of wellies that my lovely DM treated me to.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, DH went in to say hi yesterday eve and my wellies were there, neat by my backdoor. He immediately said "are they showjumpers wellies?", she laughed and said "no, of course they're not." DH then said "oh showjumper has lost hers, exactly the same."
She then laughed and commented how absentminded I am!!

(I am but that's not the point!)

With risk of sounding awful, I do not think she would be familiar with the brand and even if she was, she would have the money to spend £300+ on a pair of wellies.

WWYD? All suggestions appreciated Grin

@Mummyoflittledragon I think you may have confused me with someone else, she is married & FIL is absolutely lovely. He just stays out of her way for an easy life.

@MyShinyWhiteTeeth DH is brace but not that brave 🤣🤣

@Justnoclue oh wow!! That sounds grim 🤢 I'd love to actually knows what goes on inside their heads.
We've had the cancer scenario too - she had a cluster of cells removed last year & told everyone she had stage 4 cancer... I would like to give her the benefit of the doubt on that one, getting terminology confused, but she told lots of different people she was having chemo etc when she wasn't at all

@whatnametouse exactly! Much more important matters - I had a pair of Dubarry River Boots a few years ago, they were lovely but the best pair of "yard boots" that I've had are these:

They are lovely to ride in too! My current pair are very much on their way out but they've lasted for about 3 years

I was a bit Shock at £300 wellies, but given how much you wear them your cost per hour is far lower than most people like me who have cheapie wellies but only need them for the odd occasion. I'm glad that you have them back. I'm loving the vague-booking by your MIL, is anyone rising to the bait and asking "You OK hun?" Grin

LeftRightCentre · 27/09/2018 17:03

Glad you got them back. Only on MN is there always a reason for every type of CF twattery (other than the person is just a CF twat). Dementia, depression, I'm surprised no one mentioned autism. When 9 times out of 10, the person is just an entitled CF klepto.

longwayoff · 27/09/2018 17:07

Give her your old boots for Christmas. Dont clean them.

Evil plan wrapped up with a big bow and a trampled in mixture of fresh horse wee and poo. Wink

Thanks for responding. I just had it in my mind they were divorced probably because your mil is so obsessed with her ds.

GarkandGookin · 27/09/2018 17:11

I am glad you got your boots back.
I have never spent more than about £15 on a pair of wellies. I wear them daily in the winter and in bad weather to walk the dog. They seem to wear out quickly, so I have probably spent £100 on wellies in the last 10 years. I have never had warm or comfortable (or sometimes even dry) feet. It seems I am Vimes (and I now want a lovely pair of comfy, long-lasting and good-at-their-job wellies)

ladydickisathingapparently · 27/09/2018 17:14

Glad you got them back! Can’t see if it’s already been answered but I’m assuming the boots DH brought back were your size. Is your MIL the same shoe size as you?

My MIL invited herself to stay once when I was in hospital and took great pleasure in telling me how she’d had to borrow a jumper, how HUGE my clothes were on her, she was absolutely swamped in them [insert tinkly laugh]. Jokes on her, she’s twice my size now.

On the subject of cost per wear I have a pair of mock crocs I bought to go into hospital to have ds3 10 years ago. I still wear them several times a week for going to the pool. Total cost 10 years ago: £1.99. Do I win a prize?

ratherbeshowjumping · 27/09/2018 17:16

@Mummyoflittledragon @longwayoff
I am currently planning my revenge! (although I'm not ballsy enough to actually carry anything off).

My BF has found a company that sends an envelope & when you open it, glitter willie confetti pops out... am so so so tempted to send one of those.....

@GarkandGookin do it! They really are so comfy.

You do realise wellies are just a piece of rubber don't you?! You let your Mum spend £300 on a piece of moulded rubber?!?! 🙄🤷🏼‍♀️

Ignoramusgiganticus · 27/09/2018 17:24

My dh lost his black shoes that he'd left in the hallway then later found a brown pair he didn't recognise. My Grandad had gone home in the wrong shoes and didn't realise until he was told about the error.

He was apologetic though...

EggysMom · 27/09/2018 17:25

Unless that was ironic, Powerless I suggest you read the full thread more carefully.

UrsulaPandress · 27/09/2018 17:26

Powerless If that is what you believe you clearly do not spend long periods of time wearing wellies.

m00rfarm · 27/09/2018 17:29

I also spent years wearing wellie - had dubarrys which were great, However, my absolute favourite were Ariat heritage cowboy boots
www.ariat.com/gb/en/HRTG_WESTERN_R_TOE_W_FOO.html?dwvar_HRTG__WESTERN__R__TOE__W__FOO_color=DISTRESSED_BROWN

I wore them everywhere for two years and only stopped wearing them when they got a bit smelly on the inside ... wore them riding as well as around the yard and dogs.

ratherbeshowjumping · 27/09/2018 17:31

@BlackAmericanoNoSugar no "you ok Hun" but we have just had a "Pm me if you need me x"
Would love to see that pm
"Hi Satan, what's wrong?"
"I nicked my DILs brand new £300 wellies to walk my dog around the park & the CF took them back 😪😪"

🤣

My cousin took my dad's favourite hairbrush , he has curly hair and this brush is the only one that makes it sit flat and they can't find another the same . I gave him my one . He visited them a few months later and stole it back 😂😂

m00rfarm · 27/09/2018 17:34

@ratherbeshowjumping try some on and you will be hooked - I used to get them from the US as they were not sold here - the price now is amazingly cheap. I live in Portugal now, but seeing them has made me think I want to get another pair ...

itsbritneybiatches · 27/09/2018 17:38

I have those exact same boots! I bought them in Las Vegas.

They are super comfy and forgiving of my non skinny calf's!

I'd forgotten I had them tbh

tealover99 · 27/09/2018 17:41

Glitter willies fall out of the envelope?!

What's the name of the company?? I may send something to myself!

tealover99 · 27/09/2018 17:42

I totally read that as actual glitter willies fall out.

Go to bed tealover, you're overtired.

SongforSal · 27/09/2018 17:46

So glad you got them back. This has inspired me to somehow get my lovely leather gloves back. Smile Basically, a few months ago my dm picked up my leather gloves Dp gave me about 10 yrs ago, and said how lovely they were. She then immediately announced she loved them, and stuffed them in her handbag. I was to gobsmacked to say anything. I have been kicking myself ever since. Totally out of character for her, and the first time in my life I have been stunned into silence. I may brave an attempt at rescuing them now 😂

adayatthebeach · 27/09/2018 17:47

Maybe she is a little sick in the head? Wouldn’t she have hidden them from sight if they were stolen?

Soubriquet · 27/09/2018 17:49

I’ve got another MIL from hell...

She’s stolen a load of my dh’s prized possessions. He’s heartbroken but because he can’t prove it, he can’t say anything.

She’s made herself scarce though which she never normally does so big evidence.

We also have slight proof of, she was completely broke, kept saying she had no money, yet suddenly had money to buy a new puppy and a brand new £300 rug Hmm

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 27/09/2018 18:00

If she was still with us, I would share my MIL with you all - she was simply the best MIL in the world, evah!

Sadly bastard cancer got her, so all I can do is sympathise - and be glad that your dh had your back, OP.
