MIL has stolen my shoes!

This is not a joke...!

Historically I've had a very difficult relationship with Satan my MIL. DH pops his head in once a week on his way home from work but we otherwise have little to do with the witch. We get on OK when we do see her.

Last week I had to work away and she did massively help us out by popping in and checking on the puppy.... and since then I cannot find my very, very naice pair of wellies that my lovely DM treated me to.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, DH went in to say hi yesterday eve and my wellies were there, neat by my backdoor. He immediately said "are they showjumpers wellies?", she laughed and said "no, of course they're not." DH then said "oh showjumper has lost hers, exactly the same."
She then laughed and commented how absentminded I am!!

(I am but that's not the point!)

With risk of sounding awful, I do not think she would be familiar with the brand and even if she was, she would have the money to spend £300+ on a pair of wellies.

WWYD? All suggestions appreciated Grin

betty Wink

snowpo · 27/09/2018 13:29

Why is everyone so up in arms about expensive wellies? No-one would be surprised at spending that on a handbag cos it looks nice or is the right brand. I know what I'd spend the money on if I had it, good wellies totally worth it if you spend the winter in muddy fields.

DarlingNikita · 27/09/2018 13:34

Christ, she sounds horrible. Good for your DH.

Waddsup12 · 27/09/2018 13:40

I wear shit clothes but good footwear is massively important. Causes kinetic chain issues if feet aren't happy. Like good tyres on cars, only point of contact!

Good DH got them back.

Mummyoflittledragon · 27/09/2018 14:25

oh you’re here again, have you and showjumper broken up?! Grin

Your mil really hates you, doesn’t she?! It’s a shame that she sees you as competition. Sounds like you have a keeper there.🐴😁

Therealjudgejudy · 27/09/2018 14:42

Why are people so obsessed about spending money on good quality footwear?

Not everyone would only wear cheap Primark wellies!

Glad you got them back Op

HowlsMovingBungalow · 27/09/2018 14:48

I think it's the word wellies people think that wellies are ten quid Dunlops for splashing about on wet days.

People who don't work or have to spend hours outside don't seem to get that you need decent working footware that is comfy, waterproof and hardwearing.

ratherbeshowjumping · 27/09/2018 14:50

She's just shared a quote on Facebook about treating people how you wish to be treated 🤣 she really is a beaut.

Yep @Mummyoflittledragon she really does despise me... it was great & we got on really well until DH & I moved in together & got engaged.

She's done all sorts of barmy shit but this one does top it...

She really doesn't like me at all. At our engagement party she was overheard telling her sister that she was concerned that my upbringing would be detrimental to future married life & that I came from a "broken home".....

My DF passed away young, my mum is a self made woman, started her business whilst juggling being a single mum to my sister & I and remarried the most wonderful man 8 years ago.... absolutely fucking bonkers.

I've never dared tell my DM that she said that...

You need to quote something of your own op - really put the 'boot' in!!

Aprilshowersnowastorm · 27/09/2018 14:59

Or some lovely pics on fb of you in your wellies?!

Fortysix · 27/09/2018 15:01

Glad they were repatriated.
Another one here thinking MIL might be unwell.
Sorry but it may an early sign.
My mum's dementia can be traced back at least 15 years - she's 87.
One of the first things that stood out for me was when she argued vehemently that a cousin had only been married once when it was 3 times and she's attended all the weddings. Ownership of items also became an issue. Everything was hers.

WhatchaMaCalllit · 27/09/2018 15:01

I'd have to find an equally passive aggressive image to post on FB about how you have to keep your belongings under lock and key lest they be stolen on you, something like "Neither a borrower nor a lender be" wink wink....Or maybe a picture of the McDonalds Hamburgler, you remember the character in the black and white striped top that would steal the McDonald's hamburgers??? So not quite about what was taken but clear enough that the message doesn't go unnoticed.

Gemini69 · 27/09/2018 15:06

Glad you have them back.. she is very twisted... sick tbh Flowers

ratherbeshowjumping · 27/09/2018 15:09

Unfortunately I don't have her as a friend on there, DH screenshotted & sent it to me! I love the Hamburgler idea 😂 I'm not sure she'd get it but would really make me giggle.

As @Gemini69 suggested (kind of!) I am going to buy her cheap, nasty wellies with bells on for Xmas 🙈🤣

@Fortysix I'm sorry to hear about your mum Thanks certainly a possibility however I did research the symptoms last night & she doesn't really seem to have any others.

As far as I'm aware, this is just her.

I now use advice I saw on a old thread about a stolen distinctive coat from nursery reappearing on another child the next week... anything nice/expensive I name tag but also add a secret mark somewhere hidden to prove it's ours like a random square on the tread/star inside pocket lining/smiley face inside the coat arm etc. that you would only know was there if you put it there.

Glad you got your wellies back OP!

GetOffTheTableMabel · 27/09/2018 15:29

If you’re really sure that she’s not ill, I would start feigning concern and suggesting that she might need to seek help for her memory problems.
“We’re so worried about you dear MiL. The situation with the boots made no sense. It is very concerning that you would get so muddled and then insist that ratherbe would give you her boots when they were an expensive gift that she uses every single day. Do you think we should visit the doctor?”
If she is ill, it would be a kindness and if she’s lying thief, it will make her really cross!

Mummyoflittledragon · 27/09/2018 15:44

Vile saying that about your mum / family. She’s divorced isn’t she? Or am I confusing you with someone else?

Fortysix · 27/09/2018 15:54

That's good it's on your radar and no other signs... but rubbish that she's just that way inclined.

This is going to sound really random but before relationships go further downhill, flag up with your DH her power of attorney. As she gets more and more bonkers she'll end up isolating herself.

MyShinyWhiteTeeth · 27/09/2018 16:02

She's just shared a quote on Facebook about treating people how you wish to be treated.

Your DH should post 'Does that mean ratherbeshowjumping can go and steal a £300 present from Satan you mum?'

Justnoclue · 27/09/2018 16:02

@ratherbeshowjumping I too have a Satan. DH and I are both NC with her for years now but when we got married she bought us a knife block as a wedding gift.

It was used. The knives didn’t match the block. The box was damp, damaged and stunk of smoke. There was no polystyrene packaging (or any packaging at all) inside the box. It was grim. I considered for a while if it was a threat Grin

She spent the next few years lying about everything including telling people she had terminal cancer (proven lie). The title of Satan is no where near good enough for her.

Glad you’ve got the wellies back.

whatnametouse · 27/09/2018 16:16

Back to the boots.....

Are the leather Dubarry boots good? Need some that look good but are good for snow - have sorrel ones but want a bit more elegant pair

(Glad you got yours back op)

marvellousnightforamooncup · 27/09/2018 16:24

Ok, I'm sold on those wellies now. They look lovely.

showmewhatyougot · 27/09/2018 16:41

Hope you get them back soon! Winter is coming!

Lauren0rder · 27/09/2018 16:48

Read the update showme 🙄🙄🙄
