MIL has stolen my shoes!

This is not a joke...!

Historically I've had a very difficult relationship with Satan my MIL. DH pops his head in once a week on his way home from work but we otherwise have little to do with the witch. We get on OK when we do see her.

Last week I had to work away and she did massively help us out by popping in and checking on the puppy.... and since then I cannot find my very, very naice pair of wellies that my lovely DM treated me to.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, DH went in to say hi yesterday eve and my wellies were there, neat by my backdoor. He immediately said "are they showjumpers wellies?", she laughed and said "no, of course they're not." DH then said "oh showjumper has lost hers, exactly the same."
She then laughed and commented how absentminded I am!!

(I am but that's not the point!)

With risk of sounding awful, I do not think she would be familiar with the brand and even if she was, she would have the money to spend £300+ on a pair of wellies.

WWYD? All suggestions appreciated Grin

Well done to you DH and I'm glad you got your wellies back! Flowers

Justabouthadituptohere · 27/09/2018 07:57

I know this is real life (and I don’t want to mock it) but your MIL could be Gail Platt. I bet the writers of the soap operas would love this story!

SwanConvoy · 27/09/2018 08:01

£300+ for a pair of wellies?? They saw you coming didn’t they?!

These won't be for skipping through puddles. If you work outdoors regularly on farms and with animals you need quality, comfortable and robust footwear.

scaryteacher · 27/09/2018 08:02

Mark them somewhere so there can be no mistake as to their owner!

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 27/09/2018 08:06

Bonkers. Glad you’ve got them back.

astoundedgoat · 27/09/2018 08:17

She's mad. Glad you have them back!

SharpLily · 27/09/2018 08:23

Please come back with her FB status when you have it! Looking forward to seeing how this plays out - I'm pretty sure I'll have shit like this to deal with too. My M-i-L is also a complete cowbag.

This thread is so strange

Puppatude · 27/09/2018 08:54

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 27/09/2018 08:57

This thread is so strange

Yes, that's one way of putting it.

mintich · 27/09/2018 09:03

I can't wait for the Facebook update!

ratherbeshowjumping · 27/09/2018 09:04

So glad you got your wellies back phew! Mind you I would have left them there..let her have them but thats just me ,,and the reason I would have left them is cos £300 quid would have been a cheap price to pay to get her out of my life for good!! How humiliating and embarrassing she is as a person ugh! You won wellygate but what will she do next I wonder?!!! odd woman she is ...Well done OP and Hubby teamwork ..I like it!!!

LaGruffaloGrumble · 27/09/2018 09:49

I genuinely wonder if your MIL is well OP.

Although my mind is blown at £300 wellies...

steppemum · 27/09/2018 10:04

OP - I think I love you DH just a bit!

He fronted her on it, and didn't accept the - Oh showjumper can have them line.

so glad they are back.
Change your locks!

ohfourfoxache · 27/09/2018 10:15

Lying bitch Shock

I think you need to completely ban her from your home. And it sounds like your dh would be on board.

MauraIsles · 27/09/2018 10:16

She’s bonkers - steals from you, then abuses your DH when he goes to reclaim stolen wellies! I think she knew what she was doing! The comment asking your DH if you’d broken up is just weird, why would she say that unless she was hoping that you accusing of her stealing would cause problems between you and DH. She sounds like a right piece of work!

ArianwenTheAstronaut · 27/09/2018 10:20

Shock this thread is bonkers! So glad you got them back. I’d also consider having the locks changed in case she’s had a key cut. Total weirdo. She sounds like she deeply dislikes you and it’s really creepy.

Justabouthadituptohere · 27/09/2018 10:33

Sadly OP I’m not your BF! But great minds! You have to call them!

Top DH you've got there OP.
I have no-one nuts in my family or DP's so I'm always fascinated by MN stories of peculiar behaviour from relatives.
I also know no-one IRL who wouldn't call your MIL a witch.
Is there a FIL or is she on her own?
I do feel sorry for your DH, how awful knowing your mum behaves like that.

ratherbeshowjumping · 27/09/2018 11:27

@DuchessThingy yes I was thinking the same...! I am a riding instructor so will wear them a minimum of 8 hrs per day, 6 days per week plus time spent with my own horses, dogs & the chickens plus the day off I get is usually spent at a horse show or with my horses...

Surely a £15 pair from Tesco's is not going to cut it Confused

bettytaghetti · 27/09/2018 12:14

Great news that you've got your wellies back, but it sounds like you've got a far worse problem looming (or should that be loon-ing!) than a missing pair of wellies. (Or willies if you're OVienna!!)
I think the other posters that mentioned early signs of dementia may be right. So sorry OP.
