To be kicking myself over a stupid mistake?

NC for this as is pretty outing. A couple of days ago now I filmed a quiz tv show and on one of the questions I made a really dumb mistake on a question I knew because I was under a lot of pressure and over thought it all and was knocked out. The trouble is, now I keep dwelling on it and feel so stupid and I’m worrying I’m going to end up on the daily mail looking like an idiot. I know it’s not the end of the world, biscuit emoji etc etc but I have anxiety generally and this has just made me a bit down (nothing major just feel dumb) Please tell me stories of your split second mistakes because I’m honestly feeling so down about this even though I should be fine.

Oh I see. Thanks for the geography lesson.

On the plus side I have done the 50 states one because I learnt them all in alphabetical order when I was a teenager.

I feel your pain but I'm sure everyone will just feel empathy for you.

I went to audition for a game show once and couldn't even follow the directions to the studio! I got there late, flustered and needless to say didn't get picked.

So you got further than I did! Smile

You wouldn't be human if you weren't kicking yourself but you'll be over it soon.
I'm in awe of anyone who takes part in these shows, I wouldn't dare. Even playing along at home when I know the answers in my head, I can't always get them out at the same pace as the contestants!

The questions I would ask yourself are: Apart from the mistake. Did you think the experience was fun / beneficial? Did you win something? What did you gain from the experience? Perhaps there are others.

What a timely thread. I’m just trying not to beat myself up for saying something wrong and mucking up a situation completely...

Underpressureidiot · 26/09/2018 12:52

Good thinking dragon. I guess the answers would be: yes, no, and I think I realised I can do things that scare me and enjoy them as it really was terrific fun and such a laugh. Starting to feel a lot better now

Showing my age here but this thread reminds me of that Family Fortunes classic with Max Bygraves

Years ago a kid from the next high school from ours went on fun house (with Pat Sharpe) he was asked to name 3 emergency services. His answer, fire, police and the AA.

It was their advertising campaign at the time ‘we’re the 4th emergency service’ but still.

I did a driving test in an automatic last week. Couldn't get the damn car moving. Why? Because Einstein here had her foot on the accelerator instead of the brake... (You need your foot on the brake when you start the car as a safety feature.) Never done that before. Criiiinnnnge. I didn't fail for that but it didn't help.

I got interviewed on TV recently as a supposed expert on something... for the purposes of this let’s say it was ‘hippopotamuses’ (it wasn’t)

I was so nervous that every time I said ‘hippopotamus’ I got tongue tied and said it wrong! I was so embarrassed but don’t think a single person commented on it.

Re the UN countries, Italy?

UselessTrees · 26/09/2018 14:19

I went on "100%" once and managed to get an entire set of questions (about opera) wrong. Ten questions, multiple choice - you'd think even with pure guessing I'd have got one or two right by chance! Couldn't bear to watch it when it was broadcast.

nakedscientist · 26/09/2018 14:19

I was chatting with a friend today who just has an interview and instead of talking about some different " elements" of a problem, said "elephants", she talked for a bit before realising and saying " Did I say elephants?" They nodded and she laughed, they smiled, then she laughed a bit more ( out of nerves) and they looked on stoney faced.

She's not expecting a call!

I’ve just been reading my answers back and it sounds like I was on the chase, I actually wasn’t on the chase!!
