To be kicking myself over a stupid mistake?

Underpressureidiot · 26/09/2018 09:17

NC for this as is pretty outing. A couple of days ago now I filmed a quiz tv show and on one of the questions I made a really dumb mistake on a question I knew because I was under a lot of pressure and over thought it all and was knocked out. The trouble is, now I keep dwelling on it and feel so stupid and I’m worrying I’m going to end up on the daily mail looking like an idiot. I know it’s not the end of the world, biscuit emoji etc etc but I have anxiety generally and this has just made me a bit down (nothing major just feel dumb) Please tell me stories of your split second mistakes because I’m honestly feeling so down about this even though I should be fine.

P.s. they weren’t even good knickers. They were very embarrassing ones.

NancyDonahue

I was going to link that one too, it’s so funny!

GrandTheftWalrus · 26/09/2018 11:15

As long as you didn't take the low offer you'll be fine Wink

Geraldine170 · 26/09/2018 11:21

I have to say, one of my personal heroes is the the guy from Family Fortunes who answered ‘Name a bird with a long neck’ with “Naomi Campbell”.

Don’t worry OP, just laugh it off, I think you can safely say this is one of those occasions when people laugh with you, not at you.

Geraldine170 · 26/09/2018 11:21

Incidentally, I was on a quiz show and ended up doing an impression of a lobster so I’ve been there!

Underpressureidiot · 26/09/2018 11:22

Ha I did not take the low offer! I’d rather be out than on LadBible!!!

MayFayner · 26/09/2018 11:22

Oh OP. I’m sure it will give everyone a quick laugh and then be forgotten about. When things like this happen everyone knows it could easily happen to them. That’s why most people don’t have the guts to put themselves out there in the first place, so well done for doing that.

bananas you sound like a very interesting person. Tell us more about this moving performance. For some reason I’m imagining you playing the cello or something 😂

Underpressureidiot · 26/09/2018 11:23

Not that the show was one with a low or high offer......

I've been on a well-known quiz show! I was asked to (as part of a team) because I'm well known for being nerdy and knowing lots of trivia. I am shy and nervous but went for it anyway in a kind of "it'll be an experience!" kind of way.

I was shite. I actually did know a lot of the answers, like you OP, but it's very different from watching it at home. You feel in the spotlight and under huge pressure and your brain just goes bleerrggh. Horrible.

So I totally sympathise but also don't worry, nothing will come of it, and even if it does it's best to just own it and say "Yeah, I messed that up! D'oh!" - have a laugh at yourself and move on. That's much better than tying yourself up in knots about it. It doesn't matter.

Brew for you

IvanMashPotatoIvanDoTheTwist · 26/09/2018 11:32

Well done for doing it! I get simple questions wrong under the pressure of a timer when playing quizzes at home.

My partner knows someone who went on the crystal maze years ago and he got locked into one of the rooms and felt that he shouldn't have been/was very annoyed with himself. He had to go back another day so they could film him looking all forlorn next to the incomplete puzzle... he refused and said he'd only go back if they let him complete the puzzle. So he did that and stood next to it defiantly! 😂

To those of you laughing at the Paris gal and saying the answer is easy and you would have just said 'England' - he was saying countries that are a member of the UN in their own right, thus United Kingdom. Which has an o at the end.

Ones I can think of of the top of my head would be Germany, Italy, New Zealand, Poland, Swaziland, Egypt, Denmark, Finland, Thailand, Hungary, Iceland, Luxembourg. That's it. Can anyone think of the other 6?

Also OP, don't worry. My friend went on a quiz show for a certain profession and while she is super smart and amazing at what she does, she did not come across like that. Everyone knows it was just nerves.

WhatchaMaCalllit · 26/09/2018 11:53

This one beats the "Paris" answer above.

Underpressureidiot · 26/09/2018 11:54

Thanks everyone, I do feel much better now knowing it wasn’t just me!!! It was a question that I think was supposed to be easy but I just lost my confidence completely. It’s a real “people screaming th answer at the tv” one. After I left they kept making comments about how good I was and what a shame it was so that was something I suppose!!!!

Ireland
Greenland (?)

MayFayner · 26/09/2018 12:00

Switzerland

MayFayner · 26/09/2018 12:01

Greenland is obviously wrong! I’m thinking of one’s that end in “-land”.

Can’t think of any others 🤷‍♀️

MayFayner · 26/09/2018 12:01

*ones grrr

babybythesea · 26/09/2018 12:05

Arachnoid - I was going to ask if anyone else would have this question going round their head like an ear worm for the rest of the day!

Ivory Coast? Or is it known by the French version in which case no good.
What's the full name of St Kitts? I think the second bit has a vowel second to last.

babybythesea · 26/09/2018 12:07

I must leave for work. I must leave for work.
If you like this sort of thing then, if you haven't seen it, give Sporcle a go. Loads of quizzes. Some crap. Some brilliant. Trying to get as many countries of the world in the right place in ten minutes etc. I can now do all the U.S. States. I knew roughly where most of them were. Now I know exactly which one is which shape and where!

babybythesea · 26/09/2018 12:10

The Netherlands.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 26/09/2018 12:11

England
Scotland

Why is Greenland wrong?

babybythesea · 26/09/2018 12:12

I really have to go to work. St Kitts is St Kitts and Nevis. I googled. I thought it was so that's out.

AuntBeastie · 26/09/2018 12:14

In a pub quiz knockout round I was once asked who refused to give up their seat on the bus and sparked the American civil rights movement and instead of saying ‘Rosa parks’ (which I had known for years was the answer) I said ‘Bertha Jorkins’ who is the scatty ministry of magic employee who goes missing while on holiday in one of the Harry Potter books.

It is very easily done!!

babybythesea · 26/09/2018 12:15

Georgie - Greenland is officially part of Denmark and not a country in its own right.
Similarly, the country, officially, is The United Kingdom. England is part of that and so wouldn't appear on the Pointless list. Nor would Scotland.
