why would anyone care what a gift was wrapped in???!!!!!
flip sake.

Sweettalkinmum · 12/06/2007 11:23

I wrap my sister and mums birthday pressies up in Christmas paper, their birthday's are on the 23rd of December though and they do get seperate gifts for birthday and Christmas. I wouldn't do it in June though, then again a 1yr old aint gonna know!

Twiglett · 12/06/2007 11:25

absolutely unreasonable

he doesn't give a toss

InternationalMouseOfMystery · 12/06/2007 11:27

I'm on the fence with this, as a typical gemini...
Anyway, I suspect this is your fist child and their first birthday and you just want perfection for your DLO. I can understand that.
On the other hand, he is only 1 as others have said, he does have a pressie and will only rip the paper off and play with the box.
Generally I wrap presents in tissue papper all year round with feathers, buttons, shells, kids drawings etc, as do others, it does avoid the need to get the right paper for the right occassion. Went to a house warming party a few weeks ago, couldnt find sellotape anywhere so used a cord tie back from the box waiting to go to the charity shop, looked lovely IMHO.
Just enjoy yout DLO and forget all this stuff, it can eat you up if your not careful and get out of proportion.

PS DH just me a birthday card that I had bought for a friend of mine's birthday in a few weeks, and got DS to do the same, sigh.... Still at least I thought they were really tasteful

hana · 13/06/2007 06:58

think you need to get over yourself
it's not a big deal in the grand sheme of things - they may have wanted to get it in the post and not be late, and that's all they had, or couldn't manage to get to shops to buy what you might consider appropriate wrapping paper

bigger things to worry about

katelyle · 13/06/2007 07:11

My brother does this and I am so annoyed with myself for how cross it makes me. Yes, you are being unreasonable - but them so am I! We must try to rise above it and concentrate on the bigger picture!

There could be all sorts of sensible reasons for doing it - but if I had to do it, I'd put in a jokey note to explain why I'd done it.

ghosty · 13/06/2007 07:52

I'd be grateful if any of DH's family actually remembered my children's birthdays ... so yes, you are being unreasonable.

mumfor1standfinaltime · 13/06/2007 07:57

A friend of mine recieved a wedding present (in may) covered in xmas paper - now that is unreasonable!

I don't think it would worry me too much as ds birthday is january and he has had crimbo paper more than once. Does seem odd in June though, I would have to go into the loft to fetch it!

tigermoth · 13/06/2007 08:12

YABU.

I once worked in an office where present giving was the norm. My colleagues gave beautifully presented gifts. Trying to match their efforts really stressed me out.

So to all those present givers who do fancy wrapping, bear in mind that the recipient may feel burdened by your efforts and not particularly grateful.

burek · 13/06/2007 08:47

is it possible that whoever wrapped the pressie had poor vision and didn't notice it was xmas paper?

is it possible they thought that winnie the pooh paper would make your ds smile, never mind the xmas trees?

glad you have a place to vent. honestly. to me life is too short to worry about the picture on wrapping paper but we're all different.

hope ds had a lovely 1st birthday yesterday

SSSandy2 · 13/06/2007 08:48

waves to burek in Croatia...

Yes, how did the birthday go in the end?

DANCESwithnewlytannedlegs · 13/06/2007 08:50

yabu - at least he got a present! One of my friends has a rule that if you don't see the child on their birthday they don't get a present. I have bought presents for both her children every year

Diplidophus · 13/06/2007 08:52

Oh dear. Now feeling guilty - I wrapped a friend's DS present in X-mas paper the other day. It's all I could find in the house and didn't have the time to go and buy some new stuff.

Assumed no-one would care!

burek · 13/06/2007 08:52

big wave back to sandy

SSSandy2 · 13/06/2007 08:54

oh blast! And I felt so clever, didn't I, remembering?! oh duh...

Are you baking English cakes there yet? Too hot here. Nearly baked a coconut cake yesterday but couldn't face switching the oven on.

burek · 13/06/2007 08:57

huh, baking cakes?! in this heat?? get away!

burek · 13/06/2007 08:59

oh, and sorry about being pedantic about the country. this place is clearly rubbing off on me

alicet · 13/06/2007 13:53

Haven't read whole thread. But can't see why it matters at all - he won't care in the slightest! Surely there are bigger things to worry about??!!!! Or do you have a really easy life {wink}

StinkyPete · 13/06/2007 13:58

erm, yes?

flibbertyjibbet · 13/06/2007 13:59

YABU. You'd be much more pissed off if his birthday was 18 December and the xmas paper thing happens every year!!

tigermoth · 13/06/2007 19:20

littlelapin

Sorry I came across as being a bit abrupt - I'd only just got up when I posted this morning.

Of course it's lovely to get a nicely wrapped present, as long as it doesn't come with the expectation of getting such a nicely wrapped one back. I witnessed an awful lot of umming and ahhing over wrapping paper in my last office, more than was healthy for me
