Oh - and I'm not a "person with a uterus" because mine was removed. Surgeon didn't warn me that a side-effect of a hysterectomy was becoming a man.

Hmm
Splurge77 · 25/09/2018 18:00

Here’s what I don’t get.

I thought people’s main objection to ‘the trans agenda’ is how to deal with transwomen in women’s spaces.

But the issue here seems to be that transmen don’t want to labelled as ‘women’.

Maybe you think that’s overzealous in this context? I don’t understand what makes those people ‘evil’, as suggested by another poster, though?

PiperPublickOccurrences · 25/09/2018 18:03

No - the issue is that some people want to redefine what woman is.

Most people define "woman" as an adult human female. One with a vagina, uterus and so on.

TRAs say that no, we've got that ALL wrong and actually a woman is anyone who says that they are a woman. If they're wearing pink, high heels and make-up, all the better. And if you don't agree that "woman" means anyone who says they are a woman, you're a TERF, a transphobe or just plain nasty.

Total and utter bollocks.

applesisapple5 · 25/09/2018 18:05

'Horrific'? 'Evil'?!?! Hmm

calpop · 25/09/2018 18:18

why would a company that makes products for biological women try and alienate most of them. The numbers of transwomen stupid enough to buy sanitary towels every month when they dont actually need them and the number of transmen who still do must be miniscule compared to their core target market of women who have a monthly cycle. Idiots. Hope they go out of business soon.

Also all this stupid drama over periods, things that women and girls have been quietly just doing for a few days a month for 1000s of years. I know some peiple have complications but for most women there's no need for all the angst and drama "super-heavy flows! Exhaustion!" They're not that bad for most women! Yet more fetishistic nonsense based on what trans women think having a period must be like - traumatic and opportunities for stunning and brave. I barely notice them.

Twotailed · 25/09/2018 18:20

OP, are you deliberately misunderstanding that post or do you genuinely not get it?

Twotailed · 25/09/2018 18:22

I barely notice them.

How nice for you. Mine make make curl up on the bathroom floor in between throwing up from the pain. Guess I just need to stop making a fuss though.

Twotailed · 25/09/2018 18:25

All this fuss because a company acknowledges that trans men might get periods but don’t identify as women. That’s all it takes to be labelled ‘evil’ and ‘horrific’. What a total absurdity.

TurfClub · 25/09/2018 18:26

"OP, are you deliberately misunderstanding that post or do you genuinely not get it?"

What is there to misunderstand? It's a 'content warning' for 'gendered language'.

This is a company which uses the phrase 'teenage menstruators'.

twitter.com/Lunapads/status/936345057661194242

Fuck off with that.

OP posts:
thebangle · 25/09/2018 18:29

It's bloody ridiculous (pun intended)

I suppose I would be classed as a Millennial but I can tell you that a majority of us even think this is utter shite. If you were born a man but want to be classed as a woman then - great! Power to you for doing what makes you feel good, but this is all getting a tad silly now.

TurfClub · 25/09/2018 18:31

"All this fuss because a company acknowledges that trans men might get periods but don’t identify as women. That’s all it takes to be labelled ‘evil’ and ‘horrific’. What a total absurdity."

No it deliberately erases women and girls and suggests that referring to 'women' and 'girls' is offensive. That is evil and horrific, I stand by that fully.

If you are a transman who menstruates you don't get to redefine women as 'menstruators'. It's obvious that the article about 'menstruation' that refers to 'women' is applicable to you.

We don't need to alter the English language to do some sort of biological denialist 'if we don't rename 'women' to 'menstruators', transpeople will spontaneously combust' fuckwittery.

OP posts:
Twotailed · 25/09/2018 18:33

‘Content warning’ doesn’t mean offensive content. If you’re watching the news and they’re about to show footage of injuries and they warn you, do you think that it’s because they’re worried you will be offended? When a discussion about rape has a content warning do you think it’s to prevent offence?

It has nothing to do with offence and everything to do with letting people know what an article involves so that if it will be upsetting to them they can avoid it.

For trans men, gendered language about periods can be alienating and distressing. Now you don’t have to care about that alienation and distress. But do you really think a company should be called evil and horrific just because they do?!

Amrapaali · 25/09/2018 18:33

Calpop did say periods ate trouble free for the majority of women. Which is true. Don't be so trigger-happy please Two

calpop · 25/09/2018 18:34

Twotailed - depends whether you are a woman or a man. Its hard being a biological woman. I'm currently recovering in bed after painful surgery to repair a birth injury. If you're a woman, you have my sympathy, but heavy periods aren't the issue. Fetishising periods is the issue and appropriating yet more things off women that we have just been quietly putting up with for millenia. Do you tweet about your painful periods? Do you really value a sanitary pad company (pretty useless for heavy periods imo) patronising you and lumping you in with people who have never experienced a period never mind a painful one? I tell you what, if someone said I wasn't allowed to complain at the moment about being in pain due to my birth injury correction surgery for risk of offending transwomen who cant give birth..... Not to mention the years when I thought I'd be a woman that would never give birth and the many women who can't. What about their feelings? When LM et al are bleating about how its so unfair they will can't give birth, why isn't that triggering to women with fertility issues or who have had medical hysterectomies?

It is horrific how women experiences are being appropriated and fetishised.

ItsLikeNew · 25/09/2018 18:37

I think I've missed something?
I read the tips, woman and women are use throughout,

Twotailed · 25/09/2018 18:38

I am a cis woman and like many women - a large proportion of women - I have horrific periods. For literally all time period pain has been minimised and not taken seriously. Conditions like endometriosis are hugely underdiagnosed. But apparently now trying to have a conversation about this is fetishising periods?!

I refuse to stop fighting for better period care just because the anti-trans lobby now has it in their heads that talking about the pain and difficult periods can cause is fetishising them.

Twotailed · 25/09/2018 18:39

I am leaving this thread because it’s bad for my mental health but it seems to me a lot of you are letting your fear of trans men make you throw women under the bus

calpop · 25/09/2018 18:39

No. Im not saying you're fetishising periods. I'm saying this company and many (not all) trans women are.

Biological women are just getting on with them.

ItsLikeNew · 25/09/2018 18:41

woah and what the hell is twotailed on about

calpop · 25/09/2018 18:42

You're deliberately misunderstanding now.. Virtually every woman on these boards is trying to stop women being thrown under the bus.

You should be angry that trans women are minimising your experiences with menstruation by pretending they too suffer from it. Not biological women who all have to deal with the biological realities of being female.

thefirstmrsdewinter · 25/09/2018 18:42

That's disappointing as the website is (or was when I last looked) pretty normal and notably lacking in virtue-signalling/wokeness. There is/was one product (I think a boyshorts sort of thing) worded in a more gender-neutral way. I can only imagine this social media strategy is to compete with super-woke Thinx and the like.

When I bought their products I liked being able to support a women-owned, women-led business with domestic manufacturing. Not sure that still applies if they're taking their female customers for granted.

GenericHamster · 25/09/2018 18:43

I got an email from Thinx today and couldn't help notice that everything seemed phrased slightly awkwardly. They didn't mention gender at all til near the end where it said 'people with periods'.

I know they cater to transmen (and quite specifically in ad shots of their period shorts) but it just came across sooooo awkwardly it seemed to fail on a marketing level - I found it very distancing though I understand they were trying to be inclusive.

TurfClub · 25/09/2018 18:51

"I am leaving this thread because it’s bad for my mental health but it seems to me a lot of you are letting your fear of trans men make you throw women under the bus"

Um, what? Nobody has any fear of transmen. Transmen - call them menstruators, vagina owners, whatever you want, have female biology and are subject to all that entails (period-related discrimination, male violence, rape, etc.) Rapists rape transmen just as they rape women. www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/news/15596180.Transgender_victim_glad_he_reported_rape/ There's not a difference there.

It is not helpful to try erase the experience of billions of women & girls facing period-related discrimination BECAUSE they are women (not because they are 'menstruators' FFS), in order to avoid making a transman face up to the absolute reality of their female biology.

This is exactly how I feel. I can imagine why transwomen don’t want to be called women. I know that “it’s political correctness gone mad” sorts have always existed, but calling transmen evil because they would rather not be called women...

I feel like rational debate has been overtaken by hate.
