Don't want to waste NHS time

Roadtrip2018 · 25/09/2018 11:27

Posting for traffic, wwyd rather than AIBU really.
I'm sat at work in agony with a hot water bottle just now. I had my appendices removed about 7 years ago, I know they can't grow back, but the pain is incredible and exactly the same as when I had appendicitis. What could it be?
I don't want to waste time going to the minor injuries / A&E for it to be nothing. There's people needing proper urgent care and I've no chance seeing my GP.
FWIW I manage a team of 35 and recently returned from a car accident (fractured sternum) the director would hit the roof if I needed more time off Hmm. My colleagues reckon if I call the NHS non emergency number I'll just get told to go to my local hospital. I have a really high pain threshold so it's bothering me it's not easing off or just doing one Angry

@LydiaLunch7 some of us are trained medical professionals who have been doing the job longer than i can remember.

But OP doesn't know that. It's obviously better to take the advice of people you knows are trained professionals than a bunch of random strangers, some of whom may claim to be trained professionals.

Only a lunatic would argue with that.

Foodylicious · 25/09/2018 19:11

So glad you went in Roadtrip2018
Hope the morphine helps and they come up with a treatment plan quickly Flowers

LydiaLunch7 · 25/09/2018 19:12

I have an ovarian cyst... MN could've told me that

Yeah but MN couldn't have prescribed you morphine ;)

PurpleDaisies · 25/09/2018 19:14

I have an ovarian cyst... MN could've told me that

No. They could have told you that was one of the possibilities. You need an actual doctor to examine you to make that diagnosis.

combatbarbie · 25/09/2018 19:18

I've had a similar excruciating pain twice.... once was a kidney infection and I ended up in hospital for the week, the other was a very bad case of trapped wind! I am so glad I rode that one out through the night!

MrsMozart · 25/09/2018 19:26

Glad you've been seen and have some decent painkillers.

Hope it's sorted as quickly and painlessly as possible.

Quartz2208 · 25/09/2018 21:08

No as I said MN could have told you it was a possibility but no one can tell what it is without a physical examination.

It certainly couldnt have given you morphine either

Why are you so set that you didnt need to be seen - its odd

Wheresthebeach · 26/09/2018 00:03

Ouch those hurt. Take care

Brambleboo · 26/09/2018 00:50

Glad your problem has been diagnosed, OP. There was no way you were wasting their time. You'd already waited a good while, tried painkillers, waited again but were still in pain. In the absence of a GP appointment, and on the advice of 111, you did the right thing. Now you're in a position to see what your next steps are.

idontlikegin · 26/09/2018 09:13

Glad you've been diagnosed, OP! I've also been to A&E for an ovarian cyct - they are SO painful. Hope you get lots of rest today.

Roadtrip2018 · 26/09/2018 09:27

Some folk need to lighten up. I didn't expect or ask for diagnosis. I was being flippant with MN could've told me that!

Glad you are being looked after. What a sorry state of affairs that you almost delayed treatment due to a boss who might hit the roof and a fear of time wasting.

Get well soon and wishing you a period of good health.

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 26/09/2018 15:07

Hope you’re on the mood soon Flowers

At least you haven’t lost your sense of irony.

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 26/09/2018 15:08

On the mend obviously. Me and predictive text are heading for a major fallout.

Cheby · 26/09/2018 19:48

Glad you’ve been checked and have got some pain relief.

And for anyone else reading, sudden onset, severe pain always needs investigation. Don’t just ‘take some strong painkillers and wait and see’. That is madness.

bellabasset · 26/09/2018 20:26

Glad you know what has caused your pain. Get well soon

YeOldeTrout · 26/09/2018 20:34

Thanks for the update. Is there any treatment other than painkillers? (or surgery if persistent I guess).

DerelictWreck · 27/09/2018 11:32

OP I went to A&E in Feb with horrible abdominal pain, and guess what.....it was an ovarian cyst! Definitely feel your pain (literally) and have just had mine treated so feel free to ask if you want any info!

Belle89 · 09/10/2018 21:25

Hi Roadtrip,
How are you now?
Will you need further treatment?
I am getting pain on and off but it's not constantly severe.

Roadtrip2018 · 10/10/2018 09:11

I have to wait for my next period, I'll then have a scan and surgery if needed. Meanwhile painkillers and hot water bottles are my best friend. Like you it's not always severe but It's not been pleasant either. Exhausting really.
I hope you feel better soon!
