Don't want to waste NHS time

Roadtrip2018 · 25/09/2018 11:27

Posting for traffic, wwyd rather than AIBU really.
I'm sat at work in agony with a hot water bottle just now. I had my appendices removed about 7 years ago, I know they can't grow back, but the pain is incredible and exactly the same as when I had appendicitis. What could it be?
I don't want to waste time going to the minor injuries / A&E for it to be nothing. There's people needing proper urgent care and I've no chance seeing my GP.
FWIW I manage a team of 35 and recently returned from a car accident (fractured sternum) the director would hit the roof if I needed more time off Hmm. My colleagues reckon if I call the NHS non emergency number I'll just get told to go to my local hospital. I have a really high pain threshold so it's bothering me it's not easing off or just doing one Angry

Stop fussing about what the director would say. Get it checked out asap.

CatboySpeed · 25/09/2018 13:04

Good OP, hope you’re ok. Please just phone 111 in future rather than listen to people who think your spleen and (no longer) appendix are in the same place.

LydiaLunch7 · 25/09/2018 13:04

It's appalling that British people don't feel able to go to a doctor unless they're dying

It's crazy isn't it? You're not "wasting their time", you're using the service exactly as it's meant to be used!

Foodylicious · 25/09/2018 13:05

Glad you made it to a&e!

PurpleDaisies · 25/09/2018 13:05

Feel like I'm wasting time though, here with abdominal pain

Don’t be so bloody ridiculous. I hope it isn’t anything serious but plenty of things which are present with abdominal pain. Hmm

I hope you’re seen soon.

60sname · 25/09/2018 13:06

So many people martyring themselves on here lately re seeking medical assistance! "My leg's hanging off but I don't want to take up time at A&E."

Keel · 25/09/2018 13:06

Hope everything is ok Roadtrip and you're not wasting anyone's time. You're in pain and you need looking at. My mum had her appendix out as a child and a couple of years ago I found her doubled up in agony. She said the pain was similar to appendicitis. Turned out to be a ruptured hernia and she needed emergency surgery.

BuntyII · 25/09/2018 13:07

Good call OP. I had the most horrendous abdominal pain once and my family all said I was probably constipated Confused went to the GP after an entire night in agony who sent me to A&E and it turned out it was ovarian torsion due to a cyst.

mypointofview · 25/09/2018 13:07

MerryInthechelseahotel
You are extremely rash, advising strangers in severe pain not to seek medical help. It's clear you're not a medical professional. How dare you.

littlemisscomper · 25/09/2018 13:07

You poor old thing, it sounds horrible! Lots of luck, and let us know what they say.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 25/09/2018 13:08

Hope you don’t have to wait too long and it’s something treatable.

VioletCharlotte · 25/09/2018 13:08

If you phone your GP surgery and tell them your symptoms, they should arrange a call back from a duty Dr.

mypointofview · 25/09/2018 13:08

You too Nightwatch999.

FFS.

mommybear1 · 25/09/2018 13:08

Hope you get seen quickly OP Thanks

VioletCharlotte · 25/09/2018 13:09

Sorry, just rtft and see you're at a&e. Hope you get it sorted Thanks

Quartz2208 · 25/09/2018 13:09

Horrific pain always should be checked out.

More time can get wasted dealing with people who has left things too long and suffer more complications than going initially. I really do feel that we have lost sight of what we should be going for under the pretence of not time wasting.

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 25/09/2018 13:10

Whether you are ill or not isn’t related to how many direct reports you have or whether your Director thinks it’s convenient.

It could be wind or it could be more serious - you won’t know until a medical practitioner has been able to examine you, take a proper history and arrange any necessary investigations.

Try your GP surgery if you can, if not, can someone take you to A&E?

Hope it gets sorted

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 25/09/2018 13:11

Ooh - sorry you are in A&E - hope it’s sorted soon x

Cardiganandcuppa · 25/09/2018 13:12

Glad youre getting checked.
Right choice.

LittleMe03 · 25/09/2018 13:13

Hope it's nothing serious OP and the pain is treated shortly Thanks

ragmayo · 25/09/2018 13:18

You're in no way wasting nhs time. It's people who go in with a mild headache, or broken fingernail (true story!) who do. Hope you feel better soon

Blinkingblimey · 25/09/2018 13:24

If you’re in that much pain whether or not you have recently been in an accident recently you should get it checked. A&e sounds like the right call - hope you get an answer and sorted💐

Roadtrip2018 · 25/09/2018 13:25

A&E to me is for folk with broken bones, needing sewing up etc. I obviously have the wrong view on it. I wasn't being a martyr or looking for medical assistance. I was looking for reassurance 're taking up NHS time. Thanks though for replying.

Yes, totally wrong. Didn’t you go to a and e with your appendicitis?

Where do you think heart attacks, strokes etc go?

EdisonLightBulb · 25/09/2018 13:31

I hope you get sorted soon OP. You could have an infection so you are in the right place Flowers
