Primary school toilets look like this

My daughter is 9. God forbid she is one of the girls who start their period young. Not sure how girls age 9 to 11 at primary school are meant to manage their first ever periods with no privacy or dignity when they have to wash their blood soaked hands. The toilet area is open plan too, so anyone walking by can see right in. I took these photos on my way to a "meet the teacher" meeting today. I don't know if the school have checked the law on single sex toilets when they implemented this. I don't even know where to begin. I've been asked to leave it because it's not worth having a row with the school, seeing as they're underfunded as it is. AIBU to say "tough!" What should I do?

I think they are fine.

I do however, get blood on my hands when I wipe sometimes. My periods can be very heavy and wiping can lead to a lot of blood ending up on them. It's not a lie and it isn't really a laughable matter. It happens to many women. As usual on MN, when it comes to periods if some haven't experienced it themselves then it can't be true.

U2

I have experienced heavy periods, I had dysmenorrhea as well, so does my dd.
However, at 9 when she started if her hands were soaked with blood I'd have thought something was wrong.

They meet the standards. They are separate cubicles designed to be used by one pupil at once. They are presumably lockable and have floor to ceiling doors and walls. How much more private do you want them?

Communal sinks are an absolute non issue. The wide space here makes the whole space safer as it's open and there's no chance of loitering/bullying issues.

If you have "blood soaked hands" which you cannot clean with toilet roll then I worry how you change your sanitary wear tbh. I have a mooncup which is incredibly messy and I still manage not to do a lady Macbeth impression.

I think they are far more private than the toilets in my primary that were about 3 foot high and you could stand on tiptoes and look over the top...

They look like the toilets I have at work. At least toilet paper has come on from the tracing paper I had to use at school. That was really hard to clean up with!
