Snooping mil

Mil and I don’t get on. Husband asked asked her to come and check on our fish when away for a long weekend. I have previous use suspected mil has looked through my things when she’s been here but had no proof. So I set my lounge chest of drawers up so I’d know if she had been looking. She has!! Came home to find that they have been completely moved around, all documents out of their order, content of files all over the place etc. I’m fuming but feel validated that I’m not paranoid! I told husband who said he was annoyed with me (!) for setting traps. I said I did it because she has blatantly been through our things and needed proof, which I have. I’m so angry! Anyone else have experience of this? Dh won’t stop her coming over and sadly we have no one else who we can ask when we are away (which is very rare thankfully!)

I agree with the "f off mil" notes written as rudely as possible and left inside her favourite snooping spots. But on the other hand, it's very to give her any power at all. She could end up just going along with the silent game where you'll both pretend that your didn't write that now and she didn't find it, but tbh she'll just probably hide her tracks better next time. Best to invest in a local pet sitter or pay a friend to mind your fish. We pay someone to care for our cat when we're away. It's expensive but a worthwhile investment for us, nothing is touched other than cat stuff and they kindly take the post away from the front door and open/close curtains etc to help make the house look more occupied. They know they'll loose business and reputation will suffer if they dare mess with a client. We also lock or files in metal boxes. I wouldn't allow her the chance to snoop at all if possibe, and if your feel up for it tell her you know what she's up to when you're away and she has no right to be snooping so stop. If she doesn't and your partner still can't cut the apron strings, then leave her a whole selection of lovely surprises as suggested in this thread! To which I want to add: air horns positioned correctly in a drawer produce great comic results 😁

How about an air horn filled with glitter!? Grin

Next time I would casually ask if mil had noticed anything unusual whilst feeding the fish. She, of course, will deny. I would mention I haven't had the chance yet to check the cameras in the house. Let her sweat, and before I went I would be setting up motion-activated cameras. If he doesn't like it, oh well he might not like his privacy violated but I do.

Id put a bloody mousetrap in there, well concealed. The cheek of her. Sly doesn't cover it. Your H is a wimp. Bet if it was your mum or dad who'd sneaked through his things he'd hit the roof

Well, I think your MIL needs to be shocked somehow.. Maybe with a pile of porn mags on your husbands side of the bed, and some bondage stuff on your side.. and a fake snake or fake tarantula in a drawer somewhere.. It must be horrible when people, especially a family member go snooping around your home. But best to try and lock private paperwork away somewhere. It would be fun, and interesting though, to get a spy camera set up..

I had a webcam kind of thing/security thingymebob, set up in the living room. My mom came in, to check on the house, and I just so happened to access the camera via my mobile phone, in time to watch her reading all our mail 😂 I have to say, I found it amusing, especially when she pulled her glasses out to get a better look.

The best thing was, that I can talk through the gadget straight into the house "oi! What are you doing" - I've never seen anyone jump so high. 😂

It didn't bother me.

Binky That's evil genius. Combine that with the sabotaged hoover and a webcam for maximum entertainment Grin

This is like witnessing the birth of a new game show.
