AIBU to wish a new circle of hell for the inventor of Costa's Bonfire Spice Latte?

Bonfire Spice Latte... the smell promises the same amazing experience as Starbucks' Pumpkin Spice but the taste is like stinging vile tooth medicine.

Why was this considered a good thing?

I got one last week and it was disgusting. Ridiculously sweet (and I love some syrup in a coffee from time to time) and just tasted of burnt sugar. I only got a small one but felt sick for the rest of the evening. Never again!

CatboySpeed · 24/09/2018 08:18

I like an americano with milk on the side. I don’t want foam and the rest.

I also don’t like flavoured hot chocolate. I just want a hot chocolate without all the holidays flavoured crap.

Missingstreetlife · 24/09/2018 08:33

First world problem?

MorrisZapp · 24/09/2018 08:37

I've always wanted to know where the line is drawn between a fire and a bonfire.

ShatnersBassoon · 24/09/2018 08:50

Bonfire is outside, fire is inside (or accidental/arson type incidents). Bonfires can cause fires Confused Grin

Imfinehowareyou · 24/09/2018 09:03

I really liked it and the smell is awesome. Have no idea why it only comes in small though.

BlancheM · 24/09/2018 09:12

I'm always let down by most of their seasonal drinks. They sound so nice but it's all fur coat and no knockers. And yet I keep going back like the loyal consumer that I am!

BlancheM · 24/09/2018 09:13

Knickers* definitely no knockers involved

QuestionableMouse · 24/09/2018 09:16

The sugar tax will be why it only comes in small.

ambostraw · 24/09/2018 09:19

Why don’t they let you have a little sip before they rob you of your cash and you feel like you have to drink it because you’ve paid for it even if it’s vile?

They will. If you ask for a small taster they are usually happy to oblige. Also if you are buying a new drink and don't like it, take it back and they will change it.

Pumpkin spice smells of cinnamon but has a really smokey taste.

BluthsFrozenBananas · 24/09/2018 09:21

Thank you to the posters who told people to drink proper coffee and pointed out that this is a first world problem. I will consider myself told and never more drink coffee from chain coffee shops with syrup in, or discuss any matters which aren’t of global importance.

IWannaSeeHowItEnds · 24/09/2018 09:23

The bonfire hot choc is lovely. Bloody pricey though, for a small.

ambostraw · 24/09/2018 09:25

Oh sorry. Just noticed you used a vending machine.

Chesterfieldsofa · 24/09/2018 09:26

First world problem?

As is most of mumsnet Missingstreetlife, why don't you fuck off and do something more worthwhile with your morning rather than idling the hours on the internet 'first world occupation'.

Elephantinacravat · 24/09/2018 09:27

Ew, they are all vile!

Just give me a normal coffee!

Chesterfieldsofa · 24/09/2018 09:29

I rarely visit costa, but our local one described the bonfire flavour as like a 'coffee flavoured chai latte' - so I ordered a plain cappuccino.

YCYCYRWBUV · 24/09/2018 09:30

Oh, I thought it was just me! I had one..it was tiny, expensive and completely vile!

WellTidy · 24/09/2018 09:33

The speciality coffees and hot chocolates are so expensive, I never want to take the risk of them not being nice. Say £3.50 or so for something I don't think and then feeling really hard done by so paying another £2.50 or so for what I actually want. That's £6 minimum, it sounds a lot for one drink.

This is why I stick to lattes, flat whites and the odd syrup like vanilla or caramel. Not even sure about chancing it with hazelnut! Smile

I make an exception for the almond and orange hot chocolate that starbucks do in the run up to Christmas. Now that is divine.

Mumsnes · 24/09/2018 09:36

My local Costas always say we can get a different drink if we don't like it. I get told this because what I love is no longer in yge menu so is different from one place to another.

MsHomeSlice · 24/09/2018 09:42

dh is already getting excited about Eggnog lattes! ...I prefer the gingerbread option....and isn't it Starbucks for those?

I think I might like the autumn ones..I used to love cloveballs and I am always over cinnamoning things according to the rest of the world. I might have to go investigate the new costa in town this afternoon!

iswearinghotteraslipperyslope · 24/09/2018 09:45

Has anyone tried the chai tea you get with tassimo?

spugzbunny · 24/09/2018 09:49

I had a cold brew version ... it was not good. So not good.

myusernameisnotmyusername · 24/09/2018 09:52

I've just had one this morning as a treat to myself. I was hoping it would be like the pumpkin one but no it wasn't 😢

LaurieMarlow · 24/09/2018 10:01

All those over sweet/over flavoured speciality coffees are gross. They sound amazing but are, without exception, gross.

EndOfDiscOne · 24/09/2018 10:06

I can't stand pumpkin spice lattes. Tried the Costa ones the other week and can't stand those either.

Love their festive drinks range usually though - but at the moment I'm back on my usual vanilla latte made with coconut milk staple.
