To feel ridiculously proud of myself?

I suffer with depression and have really let my house get on top of me, some rooms were bordering on hoarder territory. This week I have disposed of 30 black bags of rubbish (from one room Blush) and now have one completely clean, free from crap room. It’s spurring me on massively to do the rest and I finally feel like something has shifted in me and I can do this, I can have a clean, properly organised house. I know it’s a small thing in the grand scheme but it’s making me so happy and proud I had to have a little crow, hope you don’t mind Smile

It's not a small thing OP its massive. Really, really well done.

Flowers to you. You have every right to feel proud. Keep going - there is nothing better than a good throw out, the more you do the better you will feel.

Hidingtonothing · 23/09/2018 14:18

it really does take some kind of internal shift to get over that inexplicable resistance to sorting through things and getting rid of them

That’s it exactly, I had given up hope that it would happen but it finally seems to have. I’ve been practicing positive thinking (I can instead of I can’t basically) lately so don’t know if that’s what’s done it but that mental block isn’t there now. I know it will take time and that I will have off days but that’s fine with me, there’s no rush. Off out to look at new furniture now, want to get storage properly sorted as that has been one of the reasons it got like this to begin with. Hope everyone has an equally lovely afternoon and thanks for letting me brag Grin

Well done - we are getting room by room decorated; and when we did the front room last year we got rid of over 1000 books. when we did the kitchen we got rid of loads of old equipment, freecycled loads and now have very good storage sorted.

It was heart breaking but good as we now have so much more space.

Boulty · 23/09/2018 14:26

Well done, you are right to be pleased of yourself.

Sometimes the clutter around us brings us down.

Good luck

Just don't go too far and get like my OH. We had a sideboard with 4 drawers, when he couldn't find something he decided to 'organise' them. He sorted everything into back/front, left/right for each drawer and produced a set of cards, one for each drawer, 16 cards in all. He then lost them and, no, I didn't do what you're thinking with them! They never turned up.
He also once eagerly tidied all the wrapping paper and detritus on Christmas Day as fast as stuff was unwrapped. Later in the day daughter was looking for her card from Grandma with a lot of folding money in it. Yes, he found it in the bin after he'd had to sort through all the rubbish at midnight.
The same one who thought that eleven o'clock on Christmas morning was a good time to put the washing machine on and put all the oven gloves in, a couple of hours before I was serving dinner for 14.

ZaZathecat · 23/09/2018 14:29

YANB at all U!! Well done.

Agustarella · 23/09/2018 14:29

That sounds great @Hiding. I think positive thinking might have helped me too, in the form of daydreaming about all the great stuff I could do once The Hoard is gone! Plus the DCs have finally got with the programme and are voluntarily offering up their old toys and games for the charity shop. Onwards and upwards!

Wellfuckmeinbothears · 23/09/2018 14:30

That’s fantastic! Well done xx

Tinkobell · 23/09/2018 14:31

Sooooo very well done OP!!!!!!!! Lap up the hard earned praise! 👌

tessieandoz · 23/09/2018 14:40

Well done !! Flowers

Madcats · 23/09/2018 14:41

OP that is absolutely brilliant!

A little slower, but we are embarking on a similar plan. I had a good old clearout/clean of the kitchen this week and realise that I probably have enough jars, tins and dry goods to feed the entire street for a week or 2.

DH has caught the bug and had a clearout of the attic (but sadly not before the refuse & recycling centre closed for the weekend...and we are away next weekend). Grrr

NutElla5x · 23/09/2018 14:48

Crow away op.I've been where you are and know how difficult a hole it is to climb out of,so a massive well done to you Smile

YearOfYouRemember · 23/09/2018 15:49

Well done!

My MH definitely suffers when the house is a mess but it has just occurred to me. Is my house a mess because of bad MH or is my MH a mess because the house is a tip, as I thought?

Hidingtonothing · 23/09/2018 17:53

Really interesting question Year and I’m not sure of the answer, both have declined gradually over the last couple of years for me but I wouldn’t like to say which came first. The effect of my current progress has really surprised me though, sounds stupid but I’ve felt properly awake, mentally alert these last few days in a way I haven’t for ages.

Am just hoping it doesn’t all fall apart tomorrow, DH goes back to work after a week off (although not helping me, he had his own project) so I’m hoping I don’t have a plunge in mood being back on my own. Got a plan and going to try and stick to it though, might need a kick up the arse to get started though so if anyone fancies it I’ll probably be here in the morning Hmm

Hooray well done!!

YearOfYouRemember · 23/09/2018 18:13

Hiding, I've recently lost a stone. It's been hard at times but remembering that the numbers are lower keep me going. All you need to do is remember how you felt when you started this thread and that will give you the motivation to keep going and not sink.

PurpleFlower1983 · 23/09/2018 18:22

Fabulous!! You have inspired me to crack on with mine! Thank you!

Glumglowworm · 23/09/2018 18:25

That’s fantastic!

Hidingtonothing · 23/09/2018 18:25

Funnily enough I weighed myself this morning, had been a few weeks since I last checked but I’ve lost half a stone and swear most of it has been in the last week, I guess clearing 30 bags of rubbish would burn a few calories! I know what you mean though, I feel great atm (as should you Smile) and remembering that feeling is good motivation when we need it.

Just so you know, you inspired me to clean my windows today. Thank you!

Hidingtonothing · 23/09/2018 19:04

Grin that’s cheered me up, my tumble drier has just given up the ghost so was feeling a bit deflated, glad you now have sparkly windows Smile
