To feel ridiculously proud of myself?

I suffer with depression and have really let my house get on top of me, some rooms were bordering on hoarder territory. This week I have disposed of 30 black bags of rubbish (from one room Blush) and now have one completely clean, free from crap room. It’s spurring me on massively to do the rest and I finally feel like something has shifted in me and I can do this, I can have a clean, properly organised house. I know it’s a small thing in the grand scheme but it’s making me so happy and proud I had to have a little crow, hope you don’t mind Smile

Well done OP what an amazing achievement! I don’t blame you for feeling proud!
Keep going we’re rooting for you! Grin

Superduper !

RangeRider · 23/09/2018 13:37

I normally roll my eyes at threads with this sort of title because they sound a bit boastful & attention-seeking but a thread that talks about getting rid of loads of rubbish.... Now that's different! And especially as you've got depression. Not boasty at all. Definitely a proud moment. Yay!

Pashazade · 23/09/2018 13:41

Brilliant well done, have you been reading EatingtheElephantInChunks post in Housekeeping? I think you would find it very encouraging too!

FrankUnderwoodsWife · 23/09/2018 13:41

This is a fabulous and heartwarming post and you have every reason to be proud of yourself.

I have suffered from depression, and unless you have experienced it for yourself, have no real understanding of what an enormous personal achievement this is.

Well done Op. As Dr Martin Luther King said
“If I cannot do great things, I can do small things in a great way.” 💪🏼

Hidingtonothing · 23/09/2018 13:42

Thank you all, the change feels massive to me, like a weight has been lifted and weirdly I seem to have been more efficient at the normal day to day stuff since I started too, it’s like a switch has been flicked.

My bedroom is next, wardrobe is stuffed full of stuff I haven’t looked at in 2 years so the lot is going! Want to repurpose the wardrobe for DD’s room so aiming to have it cleared and moved by next weekend. Also moving the bookcase from living room to her room so will get that emptied this week too, have already arranged to drop the books (all of them are going Grin) at my local hospital for the patient book service so that’s all sorted.

Will be delighted if I’ve inspired anyone else, it’s made me feel great so is definitely worth the effort Smile

Well you have inspired me OP. I'm aiming to do a small bag a day for the next four weeks.

MikeUniformMike · 23/09/2018 13:52

Well done!

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 23/09/2018 13:52

That's inspiration for me too, OP. Well done. I have so many bags that I'm waiting for the-lady-from-the-dog-sanctuary to be in the area to collect... I could take them for her and I'd have a massive space.

I'm going to see if I can foist that off onto my husband as he has a van - but the result will be the same! Grin

flumpybear · 23/09/2018 13:55

Brilliant well done you! Thanks

DDogMum · 23/09/2018 13:55

That's fantastic well done!! I genuinely would be over the moon with myself to do what you've done.
Enjoy your lovely home, treat yourself to a takeaway if you can and just chill. You bloody well deserve it xxx

dontcallmelen · 23/09/2018 13:59

Well done⭐️

sprinklesandsauce · 23/09/2018 14:01

Well done, please crow away, you should be proud of yourself. I suffer with a similar problem, and it feels great when you start to sort things out. I don't think I could get 30 bags from one room Grin but certainly a few!

We started out by doing just 30 minutes a day, and inevitably it takes a bit longer, and once you actually start, it can get quite addictive.

I am making DC sort out all their toys and I am going through bouth our clothes, and generally creating space to keep the things that we want to keep.

It is a great feeling when you look around and see space not clutter.

I am never going to maintain a show home though, it's just not me Grin. I prefer a home to look lived in, but each to their own.

We have a box to throw out, a box for the charity shop, a box for the school fayre, and a box to give to other people, it feels great to see those boxes filling up.

Tatty old clothes go to the material bank and decent stuff goes to the charity shop. I sometimes rope in friends and family to take boxes to the charity shop, they are happy to do it, as they know it has actually gone then.

That's awesome!! Congratulations!!!!

Knittedfairies · 23/09/2018 14:07

Brilliant! It may ‘only be a small thing in the grand scheme’ but it’s been a big thing in your scheme. Onwards and upwards - but don’t try to do too much in one go and get discouraged. Best of luck!

EmilyRosiEl · 23/09/2018 14:07

That's amazing! well done!

Agustarella · 23/09/2018 14:09

YANBU. Brilliant and inspirational story. I've had similar issues and it really does take some kind of internal shift to get over that inexplicable resistance to sorting through things and getting rid of them. In my case it was the need to move house urgently that flipped that mental switch. Much of The Hoard still remains but I feel that making the mental breakthrough is the important bit. I haven't counted each bin liner out of the house but it would have been well over a dozen in the last few days, enough that throwing things away is now a banal everyday occurrence rather than some awful wrench. So very well done OP, and keep on keeping on!

concretesieve · 23/09/2018 14:13

Oh, well done !! Flowers

GetOffTheTableMabel · 23/09/2018 14:15

OP, I don’t think it’s a small thing at all. It’s a big thing because it’s about a lot more than just the contents of the bags. It’s about motivation, momentum, courage and optimism. I hope you can keep going. You deserve to feel so much pride.
