To take toddler to GP for smelly farts

This isn’t a joke. But my 2 year old has the smelliest farts. The last 2 days we have expected a poop in his nappy as they smell so bad. I mentioned taking him to the GP in case there is anything wrong, but my mum thinks that would be nuts

What have you been feeding him?

garethsouthgatesmrs · 21/09/2018 18:02

After two days I wouldn't be ready to take him to gp. It could be something he's eaten or a bug. If it continued for a longer period, then I would.

Cornettoninja · 21/09/2018 18:04

Is he actually opening his bowels? Constipated farts are rank. Might be worth trying some prunes, apricots or fresh orange to help move him along. Lots of water too. See the GP if it’s a regular thing.

Other than that it’ll be something in his diet or perhaps a mild bug if he’s otherwise well.

What has he been eating? Has his diet changed in any way in the last couple of days?

If you do decide to go to the gp, see if you can get a sample to take with you.

Mammylamb · 21/09/2018 18:07

Just his normal diets; shreddies and yogurt for breakfast. Sandwich and soup or crudités for lunch and a normal dinner (bolognaise etc) and fruit. It smells worse than a grown man fart, but he is still pooping

YABU. But if your GP does have a cure for smelly toddler farts, I beg you to come back and share it.

MollyHuaCha · 21/09/2018 18:16

If it is a long term issue I would definitely take him as there could be an underlying bowel issue.
