How to lower my child’s BMI?

She is currently on the 99th percentile. About 4 months ago, we cut out takeaways. We had a dominoes every week, sometimes a curry too. Sometimes a McDonald’s as well. Food was pretty processed and crap. Now I cook homemade, healthy meals. No takeaways. I also enrolled her on two after school activities which are great exercise. This is the new lifestyle now, that we are fully sticking to. But, her weight does not look like it’s gone down at all.. will it gradually? I weighed/measured her in July ( under the guise of testing the machine at the leisure centre before I had a go, as I don’t want to make her self conscious ) should I weigh her again to check? I just don’t want her to worry that I’m weighing her again. Should I make more changes?

Would the no added sugar jelly pots be a better alternative than a frube?

Neither great but perfectly acceptable very now and then. It’s a question to ask her I’d say.

Does she like popcorn? We bought an air popper (about £17 from amazon) over summer to pop our own corn, the DCs love the novelty of it, and it's pretty healthy as far as snacks go. We don't tend to put toppings on it, they like it plain.

Going back to the BMI calculators on the NHS site.... Same height and weight but change the age by 7 years and she's bang in the middle of BMI. How does that work??

change in stature: broader hips/shoulders. boobs. extra muscles...

My Ds12 put on a bit of weight in year 7 as he decided to have bacon bap at break time and then pizza for lunch as well as the healthy snack I put in for break! Over the summer I controlled his food and he lost 7lbs and is now healthy weight again. He is now taking bread sticks in for break and whilst still having pizza for lunch we've cut out chocolate during the week and his stomach has gone flat again. He got in a rut

Watch the flavored water drinks. My son had a bowel disorder after drinking them at school and it's taken 6 months to get him right again

He's 5'2" and 7 stone. Nearly 13. DH is slim and tall. I'm tallish and usually a stone overweight. My mum is a feeder so I have to watch when he's at her house!

DD (11) is bang in the middle as a child but underweight as an adult. She's 5 foot 7, has hips and some boobs, wears size 8 to 10.

I think in this transitional stage you need to be careful with those child centiles, if they've started with puberty changes at all.

Agree about being careful with the BMI calcs. I have a 6ft 15 year old who's slim but according to the online calculators is slightly 'over'. Put him in the adult category and he's right in the middle. He's through puberty now and is broadening out across the shoulders, definitely more of an adult body than a child's.
