If a year 5 boy hit , kicked or bite another year 5 boy (enough to mark, but not too bad) in an unprovoked attack, what would you expect the school to do? Is a verbal telling off enough, or should there be further consequences?

If this was the 3rd occasion this happened would that make a difference?

Personally I would expect an exclusion for a few days at least.

I would assume the school would respond differently if the perpetrator had special needs but would still keep him away from victim by internally isolating him.

I don’t have children of that age so I’m guessing a bit but I’d expect detention, isolation, exclusion etc. I work in an independent school and this would result in a three day exclusion I believe.

I’d want to understand what was going on though. Why is s 10 year old so violent and why is he hitting out.

The fact he may need support doesn’t mean he shouldn’t be punished, but I’d want to help both children.
