To let my 10mo watch videos on my phone

I’m on my own mon-fri day & night and the only way I can get things done eg. Making dinner. Is to put my DD in her high chair and let her watch some nursery rhyme videos. I’m now worried this is bad for her and feel like an awful Mum. She is a terrible sleeper so I get about half an hour in the day and then in the evening have to go up every 20 mins to resettle her. So I can’t get house work done or meal prep done then. Sad she already knows that a phone is a touch screen and can “scroll”. I feel terrible.

Cut yourself some slack, we are all just doing our best in this parenthood thing. If she sat watching tv all day long and you never did anything else with her story time/going out in the pushchair/playing with toys etc then it would be an issue. It’s all about balance in my opinion. Keep keeping on, you’re doing a good job.

Don't beat yourself up. If it wasn't this it would be you feeling guilty that you're having to rely on ready meals because you can't make dinner.

I let my now 22 month old Dd do this for half an hour or so each day from around the same age. It has done no harm in fact she can count from 1 to ten amd knows all her colours from the little videos she watches

It's fine! You're doing it so you can feed and love and care for her! Plus it's just nursery rhymes.

Ds is 14 months and I’ve bought a special stand for the iPad so he can watch hey duggee it without it falling over when I’m cooking dinner Grin

Well I just let mine watch some nursery ryhmes tonight because I needed to make dinner! Sometimes you just need to keep them amused so you can get something done.

DD is approaching 12 months and gets Hey Duggee for the dishwasher unload and for dinner making

Choose great videos! AJ Jenkins (kidstv123 on YouTube I think) has some delightful ones, silly but educational.

Technology has its place, just choose great videos and when you can, watch them with her.

Don’t feel bad. We do what’s needed to get things done. A little screen time isn’t going to harm them. Just monitor what she’s watching and keep the screen at a reasonable distance from her eyes. If you were an awful mum you wouldn’t be worried. We all doubt ourselves.
