I’m so angry right now it’s unbeliveable My partner works from home and he has long hair shoulder length which is usually tied up (but looks better down). Today he said to me before I went to work that he was gonna go to the barbers and get a tiny bit chopped off about 2cms just to tidy it up when he called his mother this morning to say he’s He’s going out and if he’s needed he’s on his mobile and he’s going to town to go to barbers she said come down mine and I’ll take you with your father speaking to his cut at the same time. His mother has never been happy with it with him having long hair and as always said for him to cut it short but he has always said no and me 2 when she has tried to get me involved.

So this morning when he went with his mother and father the barbers he thinks (and me) that they got the barber to cut it shorter than what he wanted I think it looks about 6 inches it’s now just under his ears and now he can just about to tie up and he is really annoyed about it.

He refused to pay the barber because of how short they cut it and just walked out (strange he didn’t hit him) and his mum txt me in work saying how embarrassed she was of his behaviour and that she paid his bill. I wanna text her back and say about you blame him because of what happened.

Need some advice what would you do

Just saw the update about it being a family members barbers.
Op I would do nothing. Your partner refused to pay and presumably will have his family days out somewhere other than the barbers in future.

wrenika · 20/09/2018 18:00

To be fair to the OP here...how many threads have we had which are along the lines of 'hairdresser has ruined my hair' 'sob sob my hair is my thing I can't possibly go out in public now'...so for him to be annoyed at having his hair cut too short is hardly shocking. And we've had plenty threads of hairdressers cutting hair too short. Double standards between men and women? Men should just accept it? Hmm.

giveyourselfashiny3 · 20/09/2018 18:01

I don't think men should just accept it at all, but why is the OP so annoyed? It's not her hair!!

And the whole punching the barber thing. Ridiculous.

SerendipityFelix · 20/09/2018 18:02

wreninka no one thinks he’s unreasonable for not liking his hair cut - although it will grow back!

It’s the family outing, dysfunctional relationships and casual expectation of violence we’re all bemused by

OllyBJolly · 20/09/2018 18:05

When you say he works from home - you mean, he does his homework? And he’s 11, right?

This is typical daily mail fodder so fuck off daily mail.

Why, why. Why would your boyfriend hit the he barber. Yes he got a cut he disliked but he cannot go around hitting people and the fact you think that is a normal reaction is weird as fuck!!

LuluJakey1 · 20/09/2018 18:07

Are you both in Y8 or Y9?

IHaveBrilloHair · 20/09/2018 18:10

Does his work from home job involve Juice Plus?

Charlie97 · 20/09/2018 18:11

@chattyemma are you actually being honest about the not hitting him?

Also as a reminder don't come on here again, if you can't take the heat keep out of AIBU!!!

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 20/09/2018 18:13

Waaaaah who has to go with their mum and dad to get their haircut?
Did the barbers have one of those special kiddy stools?

gimeallthecake · 20/09/2018 18:13

Can he tie it into piggy tails at least? Grin#jokes

florenceheadache · 20/09/2018 18:24

@wrenika the difference is it’s not the person who got the haircut whining. If the bf posted his sob story about a day trip gone wrong we would all offer sympathy and hair extensions.

Sethis · 20/09/2018 18:26

I'm a man with shoulder length long hair.

I've had long hair since I was 6. It's never been shorter than the base of my neck in my entire life.

If someone deliberately cut my hair without my consent, I'd be incandescent with rage.

The amount of strife you get subjected to as a boy or man with long hair is unreal. I've been bullied, beaten up, threatened, refused jobs, and asked to cut it by my boss. I was ecstatic when LOTR came out because it hugely reduced the amount of crap I got off my peers thanks to Aragorn/Boromir/Legolas all being pinups and all having long hair. To have someone cut it when I explicitly told them to leave it long, would piss me off beyond measure.

However there is no actual evidence of whether the barber was incompetent, or if the mother told him to cut it short. Until/unless you get such evidence, it seems unreasonable to blame the mother.

The hit the barber comment was a joke

chattyemma · 20/09/2018 19:09

It’s unevan and looks a mess so that’s why we are both unhappy

I believe neither of these two comments!

Charlie97 · 20/09/2018 19:16

Nor this one!

CoughLaughFart · 20/09/2018 19:34

If I see one more post saying ‘hair grows back’, I’LL hit someone, never mind the boyfriend hitting the barber. Of course hair grows back. A fucking CHIMP knows that hair grows back.

That isn’t really the point, is it? The point is a) a barber shouldn’t be doing his own thing or taking instructions from someone other than the client and b) if the mother is still sticking her oar in with an adult man, something is very wrong.

PavlovaFaith · 20/09/2018 19:38

Well I'm grateful my haircuts aren't this dramatic. I might just punch my stylist next time to liven things up Grin

CSIblonde · 20/09/2018 19:39

That's a bit of an over reaction. Each to their own but really long hair & man buns always looks unwashed & stringy. (like Peter Stringfellows only worse).

brokenharbour · 20/09/2018 19:40

Ah well. He can obviously afford to go to a decent hairdresser next time.

Ellisandra · 20/09/2018 20:56

He can function as an adult sufficiently to earn £125K last year, but not sufficiently as an adult to take himself to the barber and get his haircut. Mmmmm-kay.

radiatorclotheshorse · 20/09/2018 20:58

Grin belters

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 20/09/2018 21:09

Jesus wept.

Try and put the off comma in your posts OP, they are really hard to read.

LostInShoebiz · 20/09/2018 21:22

I’m still confused about what him working from home is to do with anything.
