To be annoyed about the arbitrariness of taxi fares.

I get a taxi every day from the same taxi rank to the same destination. The fare is usually £3.50. Last night i was charged £5.00. I negotiated it down to £4.00 after a lengthy discussion with the driver, who agreed there was nothing special about his service that warranted an extra £1.50. I appreciate this is a trivial amount but it irritates me to be charged differentmounts for the same service. I ought to know the answer to this because i‘m a serial professional complainer but who do i complain to about this? Is it the local council, does anyone know?

Do you mean they had their meter on the wrong setting or fare fiddling?

Otherwise surely traffic differences will account for variations?

Do you use the same company everytime?

Where I live each tacu company has a slightly different rate. I know that one company charges £3.50 from my house to my friends. If their drivers try and charge more I tell them to jog on.

Another company charges £4. But they are cheaper if going long distances.

Is it a taxi rank as in a company one, or one used by anyone?

Good lord. I live in London and a taxi costs 3.50 before you’ve even opened the door.

More traffic?

I thought only black cabs could charge for time+distance - minicabs (yes, that includes uber) can only charge for distance ?

It varies by time of day here
