I’m concerned about all the repug mouthpieces that appear to be insisting on ‘due process’ for Kav accusers, saying she should be heard. Obviously she should, but it concerns me they’re saying it. What mendaciousness could they have up their sleeves?

TheClaws · 25/09/2018 03:31

I agree, but for different reasons: Kavanaugh has been dominating the newsfeeds for many days now, artificially so. All attention has been focused there while other things are happening. We cannot allow ourselves to be so distracted by one single issue. Natasha Bertrand @NatashaBertrand

Gabe Sherman reports that the Rosenstein leak appears to have been a "smoke bomb" to knock Kavanaugh out of the news. “The strategy was to try and do something really big,” said a source familiar with Trump's thinking.

It was Kavanaugh’s Bill Shine's idea to sit for a television interview and get ahead of Thursday’s hearing
'Kavanaugh's wife tests standing by your man in the #MeToo era.
Ashley Estes Kavanaugh spoke publicly on behalf of her husband, making her the latest in a long line of political spouses who have stood by their scandal-tarred men'

It was Kavanaugh’s idea to sit for a television interview and get ahead of Thursday’s hearing, two sources involved with the confirmation said, where one of his accusers, Christine Blasey Ford, is expected to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee. But his wife willingly jumped in with him, eager to clear the family name.

It was an uncomfortable role for her, people working closely with the couple said. But they noted she is also no newbie to politics.
It is Ashley Kavanaugh, who met her husband while working in the Bush White House in 2001, when she served as the president’s personal secretary, whose ties to the Bushes are stronger than those of her husband, who served as staff secretary in the administration.
Her lasting bond with the Bush family is also thought to be a big part of why President George W. Bush issued a statement on Kavanaugh’sbehalf. ://www.politico.com/story/2018/09/24/kavanaughs-wife-tests-standing-by-your-man-in-the-metoo-era-838421

USA-RSK revised trade deal has gone under the radar. R5L commentators saying it's fairly cosmetic set of changes. The Woodward book lays out Trump's unhappiness with KORUS very deeply & repeated DT attempts to undo agreements with RSK, on back of that I predict more attempts to destroy USA-RSK relationship in future.

I'm not even clicking on the link, Gumpendorf, as I just can't face it - but am sitting here wondering how on earth that can be? It flies in the face of all sense.

Gumpendorf · 25/09/2018 11:23

I know Bolleaux, it's a shocker.

It's a Gallup poll, gives a favourabilty of 45% and is the same as Nov 2010 when Repugs did so well in the midterms. The highest was 47% in Jan 2011.

The Dems are at 44% but they have been in the 40-45% bracket since 2015.

It doesn't give details of why but I think Fox News might claim some credit.

'Trump arrives at U.N. struggling to sell his foreign policy record.

President Donald Trump once expected that his brash and disruptive style of foreign policy, while horrifying to Washington elites, would be political asset with American voters.
Trump envisioned himself alternately standing up to and bonding with world leaders from China to France to Canada, striking a dazzling nuclear deal with North Korea, intimidating Iran’s Islamist clerics and even restoring relations with Moscow. bonding with world leaders from China to France to Canada, striking a dazzling nuclear deal with North Korea, intimidating Iran’s Islamist clerics and even restoring relations with Moscow.
^But as Trump prepares to address the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, his foreign policy record has proven to be a weak selling point ahead of November’s crucial midterm elections, according to interviews with a half dozen current and former administration officials and Republicans close to the White House.
“The president has disrupted things on foreign policy but those disruptions have yet to yield a lot of fruit,” said one former senior administration official. “It’s the reason why the president is not out there touting his foreign policy successes because it’s still a work-in-progress. If you were to give a judgment right now, it would not be a favorable one.”
Trump officials disagree, saying that Trump has proven himself a strong leader who is expanding the military, bending rivals like China and Iran to his will, and building a relationship with the previously reclusive leader of North Korea. www.politico.com/story/2018/09/25/trump-united-nations-foreign-policy-838223
