...to ask if anyone has a weird tiredness bug?

Posting for some traffic!

Curious really... we all have a strange tiredness in the household. Nothing else wrong, everyone just strangely exhausted. Fall asleep in your dinner type of exhausted. Normal life being lived etc, yes children are back to school but they were very active in the holidays. I'm thinking it's a bug going about - anyone else suffering?

A friend told me this morning that she had this yesterday, she just felt overwhelmingly tired, not ill, but just kept falling asleep whatever she was doing so went back to bed eventually. She still feels tired today but not as much as yesterday and can stay awake, so she's back at work.

It sounds a lot like a virus I had years ago - I had fever and chills with it though which no one has mentioned I think? Ended up having to take a week off work as I would sit down and instantly fall asleep. Nothing I could do about it.

TotHappy · 17/09/2018 22:19

Aha, glad to hear this is a thing! I've had it. Just getting over it now, two and a half weeks later. It went exhaustion, temp fluctuations, slight sore throat but nothing much, bone aches then a week or so in nausea (husband and DD actually vommed, I just felt sick), THEN a full blown head cold with v tight chest. Which lasted a week. Nasty, nasty stuff. And I've had cotton wool brain/dizziness the whole way through.

I was sure I was pregnant till everyone else got it.

TheSheepofWallSt · 17/09/2018 22:20

Same! had a bit of a cold a couple of weeks back and been flat exhausted ever since. The cold was entirely unremarkable - a few sneezes and a runny nose. The baby had it much worse - he however, is as bouncy as ever. I genuinely Googled Chronic Fatigue this weekend...

Cant lie down as LP and full on job - but have been very sub par at work and at home for days.

DrCoconut · 17/09/2018 22:21

Us too. I think the weather cracking up and the rapidly shortening days don't help, we always have low energy and more illnesses in autumn and winter.

Scientistic · 17/09/2018 22:22

It does feel a bit like early pregnancy actually. But I know I am not. But yes, really similar.

Yes! Exhausted! Put it down to term starting and not being used to work after the long summer, but if it's a thing going round I'd be kind of relieved in a way, because I'd like to think I'm more resilient to simply going back tonwork work than this! DD also feeling exhausted.

Nacreous · 17/09/2018 22:24

I have had this twice in my life, for about 3 months each time. I was going to bed at like 7pm, just absolutely exhausted all the time. Eventually concluded it was a long running virus/post viral fatigue.

Hoping it’s not carbon monoxide for you guys, a big would have to be preferable!

TattyCat · 17/09/2018 22:25

Yep. But I feel like this every single year at this time of the year, so I've come to expect it now. The normal viruses start doing the rounds at this time of year so it could be that, but I get run down consistently in September...

brizzledrizzle · 17/09/2018 22:26

I'd get your boiler checked and your gas fire if you have one.
Carbon Monoxide is very dangerous.

deste · 17/09/2018 22:27

I have been very tired since Friday. Fell asleep twice on a 100 mile journey then fell asleep at 8 o clock. Ended up in bed at 9. O clock which is not me. I’m still tired today.

keyboardjellyfish · 17/09/2018 22:27

Yup, fine otherwise apart from a wee headache. We've all got it!

nakedscientist · 17/09/2018 22:27

Yep, us too. Exhaustion, temperature fluctuations, nausea, headache, slight sore throat, tight chest. DH worse than me as I'm a bit further on but one DD come down with it today and DSis on Sunday. It seems to drag on at a low level for weeks.

livingthegoodlife · 17/09/2018 22:28

Yes! Me too. Been utterly exhausted since about Thursday last week, proper falling asleep at weird hours all day. I've been fighting an ear infection and thought it was related but ENT doc thinks not. Had blood tests today.

I have rheumatoid arthritis so could be related to that?

I almost feel like I have the flue but without any other symptoms. I do have neck ache.

I feel really debilitated by the tiredness. I've taken 2 days off work so far as I can't stay awake.

Heratnumber7 · 17/09/2018 22:29

Yes! Me and several people I work with.
Do you think it's a bug? Or a symptom of 21st century living? 😀

TomHardysNextWife · 17/09/2018 22:30

Just keep some windows open OP just in case.

nakedscientist · 17/09/2018 22:30

DoAsYouWouldBeMumBy · 17/09/2018 22:30

We have all been tired and useless - definitely not CO poisoning, and have heard other people in town complaining. I put it down to change of season or some unknown pollutant.

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 17/09/2018 22:31

@leighhalfpenny have you tried any audio stuff for insomnia? There is a guy that does apps, Richard Johnson I think, which are good. Hope the trip isn't too bad

No,I haven't. Will give them a try, thanks.

Rufus27 · 17/09/2018 22:34

I had this in my late 30s. Found it quite frightening at times. It would suddenly come on and I’d just feel like I was about to collapse I was so tired. Occasionally I’d suddenly shiver or feel a bit nauseous at the same time. To cut a v long story short, it was down to a hormonal imbalance (v low estrogen) and the start of peri menopause. I was put on HRT and within a few months it got massively better.

sophisticatedsarcasm · 17/09/2018 22:40

Me and my 14 year old sister have this... I’m usually awake till 1am... the last 4 days I’ve almost beeping falling a sleep on the couch at 9.30.....

TheSheepofWallSt · 17/09/2018 22:40

Oh @Rufus27 that’s very interesting! I stopped breastfeeding 6 weeks ago (after 2 years) and periods are just settling down.... wonder if that might be a factor...

Iwantaunicorn · 17/09/2018 22:42

I’m like it too currently, feel absolutely exhausted and was struggling to not doze off earlier, just like in early pregnancy, but am definitely not! I’m glad in a weird kind of way that I’m not alone, but have had my bloods done just in case it’s something else.

Off to buy a monoxide tester too now!

Scientistic · 18/09/2018 07:10

We slept with all windows open and the new detector says all is well - I am tempted to get the boiler completely checked though. It won't hurt.

The menopause and hormone bit is interesting as I had a couple of other things that made me think along those lines recently! I still feel completely shattered this morning and the thought of getting out of bed is unpleasant. I think I will take a day off. My eldest and youngest dc are suffering though so no hormones for them.

I hope everyone suffering has a better day today !

MiniMaxi · 18/09/2018 07:16

Hope you feel better OP & family. I think your GP can run a carbon monoxide exposure test if you’re worried (our neighbour got poisoned by an incorrectly installed boiler a few months ago...)

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 18/09/2018 07:22

We have all been the same even ds2 who is a very early walker has needed woken up for school. I actually kept thinking we were all going to come down with a cold or something but it hasn’t happened we’ve all just been totally fatigued. I ran up the stairs the other morning and actually felt shattered when I got to the top.
I’d put it down to us not having any proper downtime this year yet because dh and I had our holidays booked late we are going away in October instead but when we all felt the same I decided something must be working away at us instead.
