I'm almost 30, married with two DC.. and still have no idea what I want to be Grin I am educated to degree level (law) and would consider going back into education if it were for a job I'd love, but I just have no idea what that is.

Currently a retail manager, and used to think I'd enjoy working in a school but done some voluntary work in DD's school last year and have now ruled that out.

So please tell me what you do, just throw ideas my way!

Theatre scrub nurse. I love it. I’ve had a few jobs in nursing and I’ve found my happy place in theatre. Am moving Trusts soon and moving into ENT/Max Fax/Plastics and I can’t wait to start learning the new cases.

Government relations. Sometimes called lobbying, but that's more of an American thing.

I essentially help companies and charities to work with government (civil service and politicians), so that the laws passed make sense/ work as intended.

My law degree is extremely helpful in understanding what draft legislation would mean in practice.

NamedyChangedy · 17/09/2018 20:28

@NotTheFordType you just slipped that in there! Grin
Do people in your profession really describe themselves as 'hookers'? Where are you based - at home? And how do you advertise yourself?

SocksRock · 17/09/2018 20:29

Structural engineer for a local authority. Massively varied and busy workload and v little money to keep all their buildings standing upright, but somehow we keep doing it. The politics drives me bonkers but being able to do Good Things for schools, libraries etc keeps the feelz going...

Gillian1980 · 17/09/2018 20:32

Social worker.... qualified at 32 after going back to university to do my MA.

Larasshadow · 17/09/2018 20:32

Bookkeeper a few days a week the the rest of the time I'm an on call firefighter. Bookkeeping has become incredibly boring since becoming a firefighter so would love to do it wholetime.

dairymilkmonster · 17/09/2018 20:34

catenthusiast · 17/09/2018 20:37

I work in university outreach - prior to that I was in admissions and before that I worked in IT! I love my job, best one I've ever had.

NotTheFordType · 17/09/2018 20:37

Yes all the fellow hookers I choose to why associate with are equally not giving a shit about the marital status.

Tahitiitsamagicalplace · 17/09/2018 20:38

I've done a bit of everything (admin, middle management, self employed admin and editing) but decided to go to uni in my 30s to do an arts degree. Really liking it so far. Doing some occasional related stuff on the side, when I have time.

cojmum · 17/09/2018 20:38

Administrator for a charity, but currently training to work on the support line. Love it started as a volunteer but lots of progression opportunities.

BumDisease · 17/09/2018 20:38

Was a dog groomer up until last year when I decided to go to uni to study animation! I do miss grooming though and hope to be able to go back to it sometime.

HundredMilesAnHour · 17/09/2018 20:40

Programme Manager in Financial Services. I moved out of banking consultancy (where I was also a Programme Manager and led large programme teams) to get some work/life balance. I do have more time now (never work longer than 12 hours/day now whereas previously 14-16 hours was the norm, plus some weekends) but I am bored rigid and miss the faster-paced banking environment. Grass is also greener I guess....

BlueJava · 17/09/2018 20:41

Deliver large software platforms in finance industry.

LetsHaveAnotherGo · 17/09/2018 20:44

I'm inspired by all of you who love your jobs!

My job is ok (although very poorly paid) and I like most of the people I work with and work good hours.... But my 18 year old self was so passionate and driven and I don't know where that's gone over the last 10+ years.

I really need a boost in self-confidence and get this career show on the road!

I run my own business - equine assisted training. But you need horses so probably not a viable option for the OP!!

bananafish81 · 17/09/2018 20:47

Freelance digital product strategy consultant

(I help companies to make stuff on the Internet)

Justanotherlurker · 17/09/2018 20:49

Senior Dev at one of the big 3 in Silicon valley, love my job as I get to work on many greenfield projects and manage a team of developers across the globe.

No degree though, worked my way up through various small companies/start ups and got noticed. Wouldn't change anything

Unevenbeard · 17/09/2018 20:50

Probation Officer

Trialsmum · 17/09/2018 20:51

Portage Home Visitor. I work with babies and toddlers who have SEND. I love it and don’t think I’ll ever do anything else. It’s not amazingly well paid but one step below a teacher, it’s fab and flexible plus I get all the school holidays and DH earns well.
