I'm almost 30, married with two DC.. and still have no idea what I want to be Grin I am educated to degree level (law) and would consider going back into education if it were for a job I'd love, but I just have no idea what that is.

Currently a retail manager, and used to think I'd enjoy working in a school but done some voluntary work in DD's school last year and have now ruled that out.

So please tell me what you do, just throw ideas my way!

I work in a client facing finance for a care home chain Smile I really like my job, but I do find the whole, 'I'm sorry your mum died/where's my money' attitude hard to deal with. I think I get a bit too invested in families and their elderly relatives too, and I find it really hard to stay professional when I want to cry for them too. It has its lovely parts though.

No real progression now though unless I want to be even more field based than I already am.

I was a retail manager, then area manager before I started doing this. Currently bored and seriously considering retraining too.

Children's book designer.

Eliza9917 · 17/09/2018 17:16

Document controller in construction which consists of actually very little work nowadays as its all electronic mostly and I retrained as a dog groomer a couple of years ago. Hoping to do that full time once the project I am currently on finishes.

Lemonsnlime · 17/09/2018 17:17

Primary teacher

Muggins123 · 17/09/2018 17:21

Nursery teacher at a private nursery in the Middle East - working towards being fully qualified as an early years practitioner. (as my job title doesn't require a qualification here) I surprisingly love teaching - I fell
into it and I'm looking into pursuing it fully. I'm 40 next week

BillThePony · 17/09/2018 17:26

I manage a family support project for teen parents

dointhedo · 17/09/2018 17:27

Also have a law degree but only did it as I was bright but a jack of all trades and it fit well at the time. Fell into a career in facility and asset management, love the balance of operational and strategic, also get to be bossy. Decently paid (due to the strategic element mostly) and never dull.

LetsHaveAnotherGo · 17/09/2018 17:27

Thank you all for replying! Going to have myself a little look on Indeed I think

@JeremyCorbynsBeard original plan was to be a solicitor - done the law degree, applied for the LPC and was accepted but decided that it just wasn't me 🤷‍♀️ I figured the degree could still open doors for me but just don't know which doors I want opening!

babysharksmummy · 17/09/2018 17:31

I'm a project manager. I didnt go to uni, just self taught. I'm 28 :) good luck OP! You will find your path, I've done everything from retail to mental health work to interior design before finding my calling!

QueenOfCatan · 17/09/2018 17:31

I'm a childminder. Was a nanny before having DD and have worked with children since before leaving school in some capacity.

I'm starting a degree in engineering via the ou in October, not actually sure what I'll do with it yet but it'll open a lot of doors.

Accountancy or teaching or tutoring are the most likely as I can do them part time once qualified. I would love to work in engineering or patent law but neither are flexible or jobs that can be done part time at the moment, I'm hoping that might change in the next 6 years though!

I'm 30 next year and due dc2 shortly before my birthday.

babysharksmummy · 17/09/2018 17:32

Heatiskillingme nothing to be embarrassed about! Managers at maccies earn a decent wage so I've heard! (plus your food is damn good Grin)

overnightangel · 17/09/2018 17:36

Carer and bits of care case management. Didn’t start til I was 32, 36 now, best thing I ever did was changing careers

Mia184 · 17/09/2018 17:36

Quality manager at a freight forwarding company.

I probably have the easiest job there since no container stops if I become ill. It is well paid.

MishMashMosher · 17/09/2018 17:36

Op you sound similar to me. I'm late 20s married with 2 kids. I'm now doing an access course and applying for a nursing degree. Hopefully I'll be starting next year! Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

SkippedALightFandango · 17/09/2018 17:37

Midwife. I was a mature student as I didn’t know what I wanted to do when I was younger. I had two very different midwives for my two babies and it made me realise how important the midwife is and how it affects your birth experience.

HopefullyAnonymous · 17/09/2018 17:38

Police officer. Didn’t apply til I was 28 though because I had no idea what I wanted to do! Just various office jobs that bored me to tears. I love my job now, as difficult as it is.

notsokeen · 17/09/2018 17:40

Cabin crew, been doing it since I was 19, thinking of changing careers and go into teaching travel and tourism at the local college.

CaligulaBlushed · 17/09/2018 17:41

Ha, @mothertominibeasts, you really do do exactly what I do!! Grin

neversleepagain · 17/09/2018 17:43

I teach English online to foreign students. I can choose my days and hours. I currently work 10am-2pm to fit around dc and school run. I really enjoy it and I am really valued unlike when I taught in schools.

Celestia26 · 17/09/2018 17:43
