I need to pop off later and pick up a gift for someone who goes on mat. leave tomorrow. I am just after a token gift (under £10) and wondered if any of you had received anything that was a particularly memorable, useful or special gift without it being mega expensive. My fall back plan is a nice book. Hit me with your suggestions.

M&S food gift voucher! We have one nearby and saved us when we couldn't be bothered cooking!

CuppaSarah · 17/09/2018 11:40

Some nice biscuits, some cute leggings for baby and a bottle of my favourite cider. Simple but lovely thoughtful gifts!

Yokohamajojo · 17/09/2018 11:41

A lovely bib for my DS which we used for a long time

Aprilshowersnowastorm · 17/09/2018 11:44

Tk maxx always have gorgeous baby blankets in for a tenner .

Satsumaeater · 17/09/2018 11:48

Anything but flowers.

M&S voucher is a good idea.

ArtemisWeatherwax · 17/09/2018 11:50

Hand cream, huge bar of chocolate and a trashy mag. Nothing for the baby!

RuggerHug · 17/09/2018 11:50

OP you mean well but do you mean a book for baby or parent? Because I just got upset looking at the pile of books I didn't have time to get to..

Spanglyprincess1 · 17/09/2018 11:52

Baby teethers that you can shove in freezer and socks! My baby's tall and socks are a lifesaver

NastyCats · 17/09/2018 11:56

Anything to eat. A little piece of clothing. Lamaze toy (can't remember whether there are any for under a tenner). I love books but unless the giver knew what I'd like I would prefer to choose my own. I had some very light fleece blankets from Asda. Not plants or flowers as I just managed to kill them. A book for the baby is always brilliant.

cholka · 17/09/2018 11:57

Best value present I think is a set of stacking cups (no end of fun, from bath to sandpit to tower building to measuring etc) or a nice soft ball like a jellycat one that makes a noise. Soft balls are good as little babies can grip them then play kicking etc as they get older. Those little blanket things with a soft toy attached are quite nice too.

Baby teethers that you can shove in freezer and socks!

Why would you shove a teether in socks? Grin

Winterfellismyhome · 17/09/2018 12:02

A tommee tippee flask for making bottles when out. So so useful

Chwaraeteg · 17/09/2018 12:03

A cloth book / babies first book like this:

Lanisoh

Nice hot cgocolate.

firsttimebabybirther · 17/09/2018 12:03

A baby book as I hadn't even thought about buying one.

And hand cream as I didn't realise you wash your hands 10000000 times a day when you have a baby Grin

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 17/09/2018 12:03

Online shop!

As for a baby gift, zip up baby grows instead of stupid poppers. Made life so much easier.

Spanglyprincess1 · 17/09/2018 12:04

Freezer socks would have helped in heatwave ! Lol

GrumbleBumble · 17/09/2018 12:04

Sorry to clarify I meant a book for the baby something like- Each Peach Pear Plum, Dear Zoo, or the Very Hungry Caterpillar. Good call on stacking cups Cholka.

huge basket of muffins best present by a MILE

User12879923378 · 17/09/2018 12:07

The Black And White Book. Babies love it. You can open it out and stand it next to the changing mat or on their gym and they will be enthralled.

LaurieMarlow · 17/09/2018 12:07

A nice book for baby is a great idea, something like Peepo/Each Peach Pear Plum. Do not get a book for mum, it will only guilt her out.

M&S voucher always a winner.

Pack of muslins

Baby toy, but not something very garish or noisy. TX Maxx have good stuff.

A little feeding set (bowl, cup, spoon). Not sure if you'd get a nice one for a tenner. Again, TX Maxx is a good bet.

A big gift box packed to the brim with fancy chocolates. No packaging, just chocolates Grin

Ragwort · 17/09/2018 12:10

I would much rather have had a gift for myself than the baby Blush. We were very lucky but were inundated with baby clothes, books, soft toys etc etc. The presents I really appreciated were decent bath/shower products for myself, a home cooked meal, or 3 months of a cleaner provided by my mum Grin.

elliejjtiny · 17/09/2018 12:12

My friend gave me a box of chocolates when I had dc3. When everyone seemed to be more interested in cuddling the baby than asking how I was it was so lovely to have something that was for me.

Hortonlovesahoo · 17/09/2018 12:14

Little bits of clothing? Vouchers? Nice tea? Muslins? Nappies? Nappy cake?
