I need to pop off later and pick up a gift for someone who goes on mat. leave tomorrow. I am just after a token gift (under £10) and wondered if any of you had received anything that was a particularly memorable, useful or special gift without it being mega expensive. My fall back plan is a nice book. Hit me with your suggestions.

My favourite present was a hamper done by my sister full of face masks (for pamper before baby), hand cream and a variety of things for my hospital bag. Very practical and super helpful!

TipseyTorvey · 17/09/2018 12:18

A glo egg!! Stopped so many rows between DH and I. I buy one for everyone now 😀

We were given a lovely blanket from Jojo mama Bebe- used it loads and it's still on his bed today (he is 4 now)

We also loved the 'that's not my...' books as very first reads together. Later we loved each peach, peepo, dear zoo, the Alfie books, and anything by Jill Murphy..

Magicmonster · 17/09/2018 12:46

For the useful category I would go for sock ons or some really nice smelling baby shampoo eg burts bees. Or sleepsuits which are easy to do up as lots of people buy cute baby clothes which are impractical at first.

DorisDances · 17/09/2018 12:48

a pressie for the mum (choccies, hand cream, bath bomb etc) wrapped in a muslin square for the bay!

londonrach · 17/09/2018 12:54

Basket of things you need in first few days...hand cream, chocolate, no flowers whatever you do.

Spanglyprincess1 · 17/09/2018 13:27

Oh yes i forgot! My aunt got us a box full of wipes, shampoos , bath products , cheap spit tags etc and sudacream etc. It was brilliant and very useful for when you forgot things as everything was there when needed

Shednik · 17/09/2018 13:30

Expensive baby socks and tights. So lovely to have but not something I'd have splashed out on for myself.

Shednik · 17/09/2018 13:30

Also my friend crocheted a beautiful blanket which dd now uses for her dolls.

NameChangeCuddleBums · 17/09/2018 13:42

Sock ons, gro-swaddle or Bonds Wondersuit.

My most used presents that were smaller were stacking cups, older baby toys for 6 months plus, Neil’s yard baby bath stuff and then 0-3 clothes as I hadn’t bought that many. I got a lot of soft toys so I’d potentially avoid doing that. I had a lot of blankets as presents but they’ve all been used lots and now double up as dolls bedding.

TakeMe2Insanity · 17/09/2018 13:46

The present that included something for me, I was really touched. It helped remind me that I was still me.

IABURQO · 17/09/2018 13:47

Snoozeshade for the pushchair, invaluable for keeping the sun off a little baby.
Wilko does some decent cheap pram / baby gym toys.
Black & white crinkle book is great (but careful they don't get two or more).
Everybody always needs muslins.

Sweetiedarlingletmein · 17/09/2018 13:50

I loved getting some nice patterned large multi purpose muslins. Think they sell them in tk maxx. Any muslins are good actually, you can never have enough!

Nomad86 · 17/09/2018 14:07

A little hamper for the mum (chocolate, teabags, lansinoh etc) and a bottle of beer or something for the dad. Neighbours did this and DH said it was a really nice thought.

PhilomenaButterfly · 17/09/2018 14:09

Body Shop Mama Toto gift set, but I've no idea if they do anything like that now.

dinosaurkisses · 17/09/2018 14:25

The best and most thoughtful present we got was from a childless male friend who got us a big box of Johnson’s Baby Wipes and a box of Pampers Size 2 nappies.

It was great not having to buy either for a couple of weeks, and actually got used as opposed to frilly, handwash-only outfits!

cactusplant · 17/09/2018 14:26

Concealer

Orangedaisy · 17/09/2018 14:34

Massive muffins (more buttercream than cake) and a fleece blanket for dd-I hated it at first (very gaudy and pink, and the fabric is a bit cheap) but she absolutely loves it and sleeps with it every night. Both from a random colleague of DP.

Nicknamesalltaken · 17/09/2018 14:35

A homemade cottage pie and a bed change.

I can’t remember any other gifts if I’m honest, but I’ll never forget her kindness.

Homemade meals, and a statement that they would be taking the eldest away for a sleep over so we could settle in at home.

DappledThings · 17/09/2018 14:49

Sock-Ons. And a cottage pie or a stew that can be easily reheated

HayCaramba · 17/09/2018 14:55

A hamper with yummy cakes, tea bags, biscuits. Great!

Namechangingagainjustbecause · 17/09/2018 15:03
