Am I clutching pearls unnecessarily?

Appear to be watching women's wrestling (not on purpose, telly left on while I was working)

There are children, maybe 8-11 ish being shown in the audience

Viper??? Plus size woman in fishnets and leotard has just bodyslammed Ayesha who is also in fishnets and leather

I'm thinking a) incredibly sexualised clothing to take your kids to go watch

And b) wtf if a serious injury happens? I know these things can be staged but how do you stage a plus size woman jumping and landing on stomach of a much slimmer woman?

It's not exactly martial arts where people are respectful is it? (Id happily take my primary school child to judo match etc)

Clutching pearls? No?

Being an absolute tit about clothes and weight? Yes.

anotherNCmn · 16/09/2018 00:13

@hobblesma why? No problem with anyone wearing that... wondering why you'd wear very sexualised clothing with children being in the audience/choose to take children to view very sexualised clothed women wrestling

Size... well I'm plus size too.., if I slam myself on someone - I would injure them! I'm heavy

OP posts:
AnneLovesGilbert · 16/09/2018 00:14

I’ve never seen it but would you mind less if all of the women were thin?

hobblesma · 16/09/2018 00:15

My DD went out for a meal this evening. She wore fishnets. Her younger siblings saw her Shock.

What do you mean 'sexualised clothing'

anotherNCmn · 16/09/2018 00:16

@AnneLovesGilbert 🙄 couldn't care less on their size to watch

But heavy people jumping on others will hurt people more.

Heavier objects do tend to injure more than lighter ones.

OP posts:
Hedgehogblues · 16/09/2018 00:16

Leotards are normal wear for some women's sports

hobblesma · 16/09/2018 00:17

But heavy people jumping on others will hurt people more.

Will it? Are you a professional wrestler?

anotherNCmn · 16/09/2018 00:17

In just a leotard with fishnets?

I doubt she did.

I've seen similar clothing on Ann summers. Hence "sexualised"

OP posts:
hobblesma · 16/09/2018 00:20

So it's the leotard that you consider sexualised, not the fishnets then?

anotherNCmn · 16/09/2018 00:20

It's the leotard plus fishnets that looks very sexualised and leather plus fishnets

Leotards as in gymnastics type or swimming costumes aren't normally this sexual looking.

It's honestly what I think women might wear in then bedroom occasionally if they're into dressing up.

OP posts:
hobblesma · 16/09/2018 00:20

Ann summers sell fishnets. So do primark ffs.

hobblesma · 16/09/2018 00:21

Sorry I'm baffled.

hobblesma · 16/09/2018 00:21

Explain 'sexualised clothing'

anotherNCmn · 16/09/2018 00:22

Maybe look at it then rather than commenting on individual items dressed seperatly than put together which completely changes the "look"

OP posts:
AnneLovesGilbert · 16/09/2018 00:25

Fair enough OP. You mentioned plus size twice in your post is all.

Omgineedanamechange · 16/09/2018 00:25

Grin at believing they are actually jumping on each other.

sirmione16 · 16/09/2018 00:26

What promotion are you watching ?!

Actually women's wrestling has come a long way - look to WWE who are pushing their female competitors in a "revolution" They aimed a long time ago to break the sexualisation of women's wrestling and focus on it as a sport - giving them significant story lines as opposed to "bra and panties matches" you may witness back in 1980/90s, making their matches as important as the men's by making them main events in shows and running for same length of time, giving them the same match stipulations as men have.

As for the clothing, that's the wrestlers choice and often it's a character portrayal not just a "scantily clad woman". Plus it's sports wear so must be tight fitting for safety. Often tights worn though fishnet are performance grade tights - like dancers wear.

And you should be praising heavier wrestlers! They're paving a way to break the body image ideal that was portrayed before when women only showed on wrestling to do the time boards or as a mans "side piece"

Viper is actually Kimberley Benson. Scottish. Young. Breaking barriers for larger women in sports entertainment. Proving that her size doesn't hinder the athletic ability nor compromise how "safe" a worker she is (meaning she is trained and talented enough not to injure anyone)

To finish - wrestling is a sports entertainment. It's a performance. It's characters dressed up, acting a storyline which happens to be played out through wrestling matches. The matches are fake too, the moves are fake, the winner is decided.

I'll happily take my child to view women with 100% body confidence participating in what's still quite a male dominated field, and portraying great morales in their story lines. They're role models.

IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan · 16/09/2018 00:28

You should see the men’s wrestling OP. The dirty gits are topless!! Shock

anotherNCmn · 16/09/2018 00:30

For me watching it - I couldn't care less. 8-11 year old boys though I'm rather shocked

Men with tops off isn't ever really considered "sexual" in terms of sports

OP posts:
sirmione16 · 16/09/2018 00:32

For those who aren't wrestling fans - here's Viper. Personally I think she looks fierce and determined - exactly what her character is.

AnneLovesGilbert · 16/09/2018 00:34

Love her hair!

sirmione16 · 16/09/2018 00:34

@anotherNCmn 8-11 year old boys

Then you show them it's 2018 and actually we as a society respect women no matter what they're wearing, and express how strong these women look up there and how great they are at their sport.

Don't put ideas in their heads. You're the one thinking wrong here.

IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan · 16/09/2018 00:37

Why not? Some of them are very sexy. I could get the right horn watching some men wrestling topless. That makes it sexual, right? Because I’m sexually aroused by it? Isn’t that what you’re saying- that because men find fishnets sexy it makes the clothing sexualised? So by your logic, topless men is sexual because I find it sexy.

ThistleAmore · 16/09/2018 00:42

Viper is a friend of mine - I'll pass this thread on to her, she'll love it!

She's one of the kindest, most empathetic people I know, and works incredibly hard at her sport and on her fitness. She's also a superb role model for younger women, particularly 'bigger' girls who may have shied away from sport.

In other news, I (5'8", 175kg) play rugby, and regularly face up to women who are considerably bigger and heavier than me. We wear shorts, too, and then we get nekkid in the shower afterwards. Quick, grab yer pearls.

Seriously, OP, f*cking get over yourself.

sirmione16 · 16/09/2018 00:42

Plus can I just add because one female wrestler is in a more revealing outfit, not all of them are. As mentioned, it's part of a character.
